Chapter 187: Chapter 173: Undead Battery

Dome raised his hands levelly, aiming at Milan.

"You can’t use it anymore," Milan said, her forehead sweating, unsure if it was from the heat or from fear, yet her tone was very certain, "I know your abilities, Dome, and you’ve already reached your limit with these powers."

"I’ve found a more suitable method," Dome shook his head, "Knowledge can provide us with endless possibilities. We just need to seek and learn with greedy eyes, and it will give us anything we desire, never showing disgust toward us."

"Everything in the world despises greed, except knowledge, which stands alone."

"This is the power I control, but I don’t want to waste it on you. Milan, out of the old camaraderie, and at least for the fact that I still let you stand here and speak, stop struggling."

The standoff continued.

The Undead were reduced to a scattered few dozen, the recent explosion sweeping across the map nearly causing them to disconnect from the game.

The surviving Undead, smarter, chose to stand next to NPCs, assuming that since Milan was a story NPC, she would definitely not be attacked.

Though the deduction was incorrect, the outcome aligned perfectly with "game logic."

Little did they know Milan, outwardly fierce but inwardly timid, was verbally threatening Dome while her heart pounded wildly, fearing another move from him.

Those terrible flames had burned her face painfully swollen, and every breath and word was like swallowing a piece of burning charcoal. The strength of a Senior Grand Knight not directly affected was hard to bear... If touched directly by those flames, even a light brush, she would turn into ashes just like the Undead.

The standoff was broken by the sound of "whoosh" cutting through the air.

An arrow wrapped in frost had torn through the air.

Morena quickly raised her wooden wand beside her, the tip’s stone glowing, and soon an invisible barrier appeared.

The arrow struck the invisible barrier, creating a spiderweb pattern as half of the arrow penetrated this glass-like shield hardly visible to the naked eye.

"Lord Lind!" Milan quickly turned around, recognizing the arrow, knowing it was shot by Lance. As a crossbowman, she was curious about Lance’s Ice Bow, and though she was not accustomed to using it, it didn’t lessen her interest.

Since Lance had arrived, Lord Lind must be here too.

Three figures appeared.

Lind, carrying a Broken Sword and clad in golden Heavy Armor, Lance, holding the Ice Bow with antlers, and the Bunny-toothed Witch Mico, who was running last.

The Ice Bow’s chained arrows pinned the transparent barrier, forcing Morena to concentrate fully on it, but she could only watch as Lind drew closer.

Finally, flames burst from Dome’s palm again.

Perhaps because Lind had already charged in, this burst of flames was relatively small, barely covering Lind.

"Be careful!" screamed Milan, worrying that if Lind were injured or killed, her own future would be bleak.

The raging fire completely engulfed Lind, while a smile crept across Dome’s face.

Yet a gold-armored hand tore through the flames, indifferent to the constant erosion of fire, and punched Morena’s barrier.

The barrier shattered at the impact.

The right hand in golden armor was raised high, as if claiming a final victory in a gladiatorial combat.

"Is that all?" A foot stepped out of the flames.

Following, Lind, wrapped in flames, walked out unscathed. His raised right fist smashed toward Dome’s shoulder, and the hunched old wizard could only watch helplessly as the fist hit its target.

The slow punch, still wrapped in flames, seemed to freeze time at that moment.

Dome’s right shoulder was struck, the force erupting through flesh and bone, the crisp sound of breaking bones chilling to the listeners, and the intense pain scrambled Dome’s consciousness.

Lind effortlessly grabbed Dome by the collar and lifted him off the ground as if he were picking up a dead quail.

The old wizard’s body was extremely feeble, especially considering that Lind was among the strongest Senior Grand Knights. The only reason Dome wasn’t killed by a single punch was that Lind hadn’t aimed at his head.

"Do you want to drop that stick now, or shall I help you?" Lind turned his head to look at Morena.

Morena didn’t try to resist and obediently dropped the magic wand on the ground.

Having witnessed Lind’s terrifying close-combat burst, Morena knew well enough to cooperate if she had any sense left.

Conquering the magic school tomorrow seemed simpler than imagined.

Lind had once breached the defenses of Leon City with even fewer undead than now. It would be strange if he couldn’t conquer a magic school guarded only by high-ranking wizards with his increased strength.

However, Dome clearly possessed some knowledge, some power to tap into.

Lind casually issued a mission to scout the magic school tomorrow. The surviving undead, having "watched the CG," dispersed excitedly in pairs and groups to investigate.

They were exhilarated by today’s successful infiltration of the assassins without being noticed by anyone. It felt really good.

Before long, Lind received information relayed back by the undead.

"There’s a group of undead in the huge dungeon underground, my Lord!" the returning undead exclaimed with joy. New undead captives were here, and they could invite new players to join!

Lind followed the guide undead downstairs, walking down a narrow staircase as if he were heading toward the Abyss.

Just as the guide undead had described, the underground was very peculiar.

There were rough mechanical devices everywhere, styled like metal machinery, but the mechanisms powering the machines weren’t gears.

Lind leaned closer to one and saw that it was covered in various styles of magical runes, appearing randomly drawn, but this haphazard sketching somehow started the machines.

Over eighty undead hung like pigs in a meat factory, suspended in the enormous device, eyes tightly shut.

The runes on the metal machinery periodically flickered with bright light, seemingly extracting something from the bodies of the undead.

"Can they be awakened?" Lind asked.

The one who answered his question, still in pain from a broken shoulder and arm, was Dome: "Yes, they can."

"What have you done?" Lind tapped the machinery lightly, "The power of flames you unleashed earlier, did you obtain it from them?"

Dome nodded.

Lind had never imagined the "battery technology" he had always longed for would present itself in such a bizarre way.

Dome’s skill in extracting power was extremely proficient, or else he wouldn’t have been able to unleash fireballs capable of destroying a castle consecutively.

This also meant that Dome’s technology had matured.

The reason why it was so difficult to widely promote adding more features to the Lion Badge was the issue of energy.

But with this place, it seemed like that issue was no longer a problem.

Lind said to Dome, "Swear loyalty to me, Dome, and I can offer you more support, allow you to gain more knowledge."

It seemed like there were options to "agree" or "disagree," but in reality, there was only one choice.

Fortunately, Dome was very intrigued by the traits displayed by Lind, who was a living Old Nobility free from madness.

"It would be my honor, my Lord!"
