Chapter 110: Has Jonah Met Daddy Before?

Cassidy sits cross-legged on the living room sofa, her laptop balanced on her thighs. The screen displays a few upcoming designs from Cy. Noire’s newest collection, fresh, bold, and ready for production.

"Mommy," Claire mumbles sleepily as she walks over, still rubbing her eyes.

She closes the laptop, rises, and lifts Claire with ease, showering her face with warm, ticklish kisses.

"Good morning, sweetheart."

"Morning, Mommy," Claire replies with a soft giggle, squirming from the kisses.

"Did you sleep well?" Cassidy asks, smoothing out Claire’s messy hair with her fingers.

Claire nods and rests her cheek against her mother’s shoulder, her little arms wrapped loosely around her.

"Would you like some milk?"

"Yes, please, Mommy."

Cassidy gently settles Claire onto the sofa. "Alright, just wait here, okay? Mommy will go get it for you."

"Okay, Mommy."

Cassidy stops just before leaving and turns back. "Cold or warm?"

"Cold."

Cass heads to the kitchen, opens the fridge, and takes out a bottle of cow’s milk. She pours some into a small blue stainless-steel cup, then walks back to the living room.

"Here’s your milk, sweetheart," she says as she hands the cup to Claire and sits down beside her.

Claire takes the cup with both hands, smiling. "Thank you, Mommy," she says sweetly before taking a sip.

"Mmm... yummy,"

Cassidy chuckles softly, reaching for her phone on the table. She opens the camera app and lifts it.

"Look here, Claire," she calls out gently.

Claire turns her head, still holding the cup with both hands, a milk mustache on her lip and a sparkle in her eyes.

Cassidy snaps a photo, grinning. "You look so cute, baby."

She then turns the phone around to show Claire the picture. "Look at this," she says, smiling. "See your little milk mustache?"

Claire giggles when she sees it. "I look funny, Mommy."

"You look adorable, sweetheart," Cassidy replies, gently pinching her daughter’s cheek with affection.

"Do you want to watch some TV?" she asks as she tucks a lock of Claire’s hair behind her ear.

Claire’s eyes brighten. Cassidy rarely lets her watch television, she’s cautious about Claire getting too attached to it. And it could be bad for her eyes.

"Can I watch Elsa?" Claire asks eagerly.

"Of course," Cassidy replies with a smile. "Just for today, alright?"

Claire bounces with excitement.

Cassidy turns on the TV in the living room, opens an app, and plays Frozen for her.

Now, Claire sits still. Her eyes glued to the screen, completely absorbed in the movie.

While they’re watching, Cassidy’s phone buzzes on the sofa. She picks it up and sees Georgia’s name flashing on the screen

Cassidy pick up, "Hey, G..."

"Cass, I just heard about the accident. Are you okay? Why didn’t you tell me?" Georgia’s voice is thick with concern.

"We’re fine, G. I didn’t want to worry you, so I didn’t say anything."

"I can’t believe this. I’m coming to your place this afternoon, we need to talk... seriously."

"Of course. How’s Mom? Any updates?"

Georgia sighs. "There’s been some progress. She’s still disoriented and a bit unsteady, but the headaches aren’t as bad anymore. The nausea’s easing too."

Cassidy feels a wave of relief, though the sadness hasn’t left her. "Thank God. Did the doctor say when she can come home?"

"Dr. Julianne said she’ll monitor her for a few more days. If she continues to improve, she might be allowed to go home. But a nurse and doctor still need to be on standby. No activity for now."

"I’m sorry I haven’t been visiting her much at the hospital," Cassidy says quietly.

"Hey, don’t apologize. Claire just got out of the hospital too, she needs you more right now. Mom isn’t alone. I’m with her. Sandro, Raymond, Martha, and Dad too."

Cassidy still feels guilty. The reason she returned to America was to care for her mother. But now? Look at her. She can’t even leave her apartment without Zeke’s bodyguards trailing behind her.

"Thanks, G," she murmurs, not explaining further. But Georgia understands.

"Okay, I’ll hang up now. Give Claire a hug from me."

"Mhm."

The call ends.

Just like she said, Georgia arrives at 3 p.m. with her two kids, Freya and Jonah.

"Claire, look who’s here!" Cassidy calls out as the door opens.

"Aunty Georgia! Freya! Jonah!" Claire gasps, thrilled.

She lights up with excitement at the sight of them and rushes over to her cousins. Moments later, the three of them disappear into the playroom, Claire wastes no time showing off her stuffed animals and favorite toys.

Cassidy and Georgia just shake their heads as they watch the three little ones immediately run off, completely forgetting about their mothers the moment they reunite.

The two sisters sit down in the living room. A moment later, Clara brings in tea and a small tray of cookies before quietly excusing herself, giving them space to talk.

"You’re really okay, right?" Georgia asks, cupping Cassidy’s cheeks in both hands and gently tilting her head from side to side, checking for any other injuries besides the one near her temple.

Cassidy grabs Georgia’s wrists and gently lowers them. "As you can see, it’s just a scratch on my temple."

Georgia exhales in relief and then frowns. "Why do bad things keep happening to you lately, huh? It’s like trouble keeps chasing you."

Cassidy bites her lower lip, weighing whether or not she should tell Georgia the real reason behind her so-called bad luck.

In the end, she decides against it. She knows Georgia would only panic because this isn’t just bad luck. Every accident, every incident, had been deliberate. Planned by someone.

"I honestly don’t know why I’ve been this unlucky lately," she says instead, offering a faint smile that doesn’t quite reach her eyes.

Georgia lets out a soft sigh. "Let’s just hope this is the last of it, yeah?"

Cassidy nods lightly. "I hope so."

Georgia tilts her head slightly. "So... how are things going between you and Zeke?"

Cassidy gives a dry smile. "What do you mean ’things’? There’s nothing going on. We’re just co-parenting Claire. That’s all."

"Really?"

"Of course."

"By the way... have you two told Claire the truth about Zeke yet?"

"Not yet. We’re planning to tell her later today. After he gets off work."

Georgia’s eyes soften. "Finally. She’ll know who her father is. That’s... that’s really touching. She’ll have both her mom and dad now. A full family."

"Yeah," Cassidy murmurs. "I’m just not sure how she’ll react."

"She’ll accept him," Georgia says without hesitation. "I believe that. Claire’s a good girl. And she’s been waiting for her dad for a long time."

The two sisters fall into easy conversation, drifting from everyday updates to silly, lighthearted things that make them laugh.

Around five in the afternoon, Georgia calls out to her kids, "Freya, Jonah, time to get ready. We’re heading home."

As Georgia and her kids are about to leave, Jonah suddenly blurts out, "Where’s Uncle, Claire? Why didn’t I see your daddy? Did Uncle go to work like my dad?"

Cassidy and Georgia both freeze, their eyes widening slightly at the innocent question.

Claire, with her usual bright expression, answers without hesitation, "My daddy’s at work."

The two women quietly breathe a sigh of relief. It’s clear Claire doesn’t fully understand what Jonah meant.

But Jonah isn’t finished yet. "Have you seen your daddy’s Lego collection? I want to see it too!"

Claire frowns in confusion. Just as she opens her mouth to ask more, Georgia quickly ushers Freya and Jonah toward the door. "Alright, let’s go. Time to head home."

"Bye, Freya! Bye, Jonah!" Cassidy waves at them with a warm smile.

After the door shuts behind them, Claire turns and looks up at Cassidy.

"Has Jonah met Daddy before?"

Cassidy quickly diverts Claire’s question with a smile and says, "Uncle Zeke is coming to the apartment soon, right after he gets off work."

It works like magic. Claire immediately forgets her question and lights up. "Really?"

Cassidy nods. "Yes. That’s what he told me."

"I can’t wait to let Uncle Zeke try my new recipe!" Claire exclaims excitedly, already imagining his reaction. She’s been working on a new imaginary dish in her toy kitchen and has been saving it just for him.
