Chapter 109: Boss Meets Love Guru

Chapter 109: Boss Meets Love Guru

"You want to know how I chased Karen, don’t you?"

Zeke nods, still unable to believe he’s actually asking Andrew for advice.

"Alright then, I’ll tell you how I won my wife over," Andrew says, suddenly sounding serious.

"I met Karen at a bookstore. Super cliche and romantic, right? It was love at first sight." Andrew’s face softens as he recalls the memory.

"Love at first sight? So you fell for her looks, huh?" Zeke asks, his tone laced with judgment.

Andrew clears his throat. He can’t lie. Yes, he did fall at first sight, when he saw Karen tuck her hair behind her ear while reading. For some reason, that small gesture hit him hard. In her white dress and long blonde hair, she looked like a fallen angel. Pure. Timeless.

"You’re right. I’m not proud of it, but it’s the truth. Our eyes see them first. Then the heart follows."

Zeke scoffs.

"Hey, don’t make me sound like a jerk. Most people are like me. Man or woman, if it’s not looks, it’s income. Everyone likes looking at beautiful things. Only a few people actually see beyond that. No one wants to fall in love from scratch these days. You’re a CEO. You should know that better than anyone."

"I do. Just get to the point. What did you do after you saw her?"

"I walked up to her. Told her I had the same copy of the book she was reading."

"I didn’t know you had that kind of confidence. I thought you were the type who’d write anonymous love letters and never send them."

"What do you take me for, a middle schooler? Maybe hanging around you rubbed off on me. Your arrogance must’ve been contagious."

"And thank God I didn’t catch anything from you," Zeke said sarcastically.

"Tch. You’re annoying. I don’t feel like teaching you anymore."

"Fine. I was thinking of increasing your bonus, but I guess that’s off the table now."

"Wait, wait! You got it all wrong. I’m more than ready to teach you how to win a woman’s heart. Trust me. Once you hear me out, you’ll nail it."

"Cut the nonsense and just say it. If I’m not convinced, I’m canceling everything."

"Alright, alright, calm down. I’m getting there. So, after I told Karen that I had a copy of the book too, she was immediately interested in talking to me. We started discussing the contents, went deeper into the author’s ideas. I found out she was a huge fan of that writer, and I happened to have more books by the same author."

"So, you bonded over your shared interest?"

Andrew nodded. "Exactly. But that wasn’t enough. I made sure to show up, subtly. We started texting, then moved on to phone calls. Eventually, I asked her out more often just to visit bookstores, read together, or talk about books."

Zeke listened attentively, arms crossed.

"After almost a year of getting to know each other, I confessed my feelings to Karen. And lucky me, she said yes right away." Andrew looked proud, his smile softening with emotion.

Zeke let out a short scoff and shook his head. "I was hoping she’d reject you and make you suffer chasing after her." He smirked, but the look in his eyes gave him away. A hint of envy slipped through, like he wished things could’ve been that simple for him too.

"Told you I’m charming. That’s why she didn’t hesitate."

Zeke rolled his eyes. "You’re so full of yourself."

Andrew laughed. "Not full of myself. Just confident."

Zeke didn’t answer. He just looked away, exhaling through his nose. His jaw tightened a little, like the conversation hit closer to home than he wanted to admit.

"If you want to pursue Cassidy," Andrew said, "I think your best chance is to involve Claire."

Zeke frowned. "What do you mean?"

"She’s your daughter, Zeke. You and Cassidy are her parents. And kids especially at that age, they usually want their mom and dad to be together. They just want to be close to the people they love."

Zeke paused, taking it in. He hadn’t thought about it that way. Asking Claire for help hadn’t even crossed his mind, especially since she didn’t know he was her father. Let alone asking her to help him get close to her mother.

Andrew grinned. "And if you’re serious about pursuing Cassidy, just follow the ten steps I told you. Stick to them, and you’ll get her heart eventually."

"If not," Zeke replied dryly, "I’ll cut your bonus for an entire year."

"Hey! That’s not fair. I work hard for that bonus!"

"Alright. Then maybe I’ll send you on a business trip to one of our most remote branches."

"You’re a cruel boss," Andrew groaned, fake crying. "Why are you so mean to me?"

Zeke laughed under his breath, then his expression softened. "Seriously... thanks. For the advice. For sharing your story. I appreciate it."

Andrew smiled. "No need to thank me. You’ve changed, Zeke. You’re more grounded now. Softer. I just hope she sees that. You deserve to be happy."

"I hope so, Andrew."

"You’ve got this," Andrew encouraged with a small nod. "And if there’s anything else you want to ask, don’t hesitate. My wisdom is always available to you."

Zeke gave him a dry look. "Alright, now get out of my office."

Andrew grinned, offered a quick salute, and walked out without another word.

Zeke glanced at his watch, just past 11 a.m.

Still a long way until the end of the workday.

But he was already restless, eager to see Cassidy again. And more than anything, he felt a knot of nerves tightening in his chest.

And today, he would finally tell Claire the truth. That he was her father.

He hoped Claire would accept him.

Because he couldn’t wait to hear his daughter call him Dad, not Uncle.

And more than anything, he couldn’t wait to finally tell the world that Claire was his daughter.
