Chapter 37: Is Your Son Really Divorced?

***

Naturally, Lucy did not come to this restaurant just because she was hungry.

Le Fuego was a popular restaurant in Grid City for its exquisite international flavors. Many people flocked to this place due to its reputation and food, but not everyone could afford it. Thus, it became a perfect spot for wealthy people to have a meeting and dine.

But Lucy has a very pleasant memory of this place.

Because this was where Landon’s mother first met up with her when she had just married him. It was also the first time Lucy learned that she might not be able to open up to his family ever again.

Peeling off her gaze from that direction, Lucy continued feeding herself. The last bit of her meal suddenly felt pasty and bitter, making her lose her appetite.

As she prepared to leave, she went to the counter and paid for her meal.

As the cashier rang her bill, Lucy leaned forward and said, "Can you do me a favor?"

The cashier looked up from the computer to her. "Pardon?"

Lucy smiled and continued, "I want to buy one more dish from the menu. But will you please give it to someone else?"

The cashier cast her a hesitating glance.

"I’ll give you a reasonable tip in exchange."

On the second floor of the restaurant.

At a table near the window, the group of women finally sat down and started talking to each other.

"The MT Technology’s second son is getting married soon, with the eldest daughter of the mayor. I just received an invitation to their wedding, but I’m not sure if I should attend." One lady changed the topic. "What about you? Are you going to attend? If you are, I will, too."

The women looked at least in their late forties to early fifties.

Another woman said, "Isn’t the second son of MT Technology that unruly boy we saw at the social party last week?"

"Yes."

"Then, I’m not going."

"Me too."

"What about you, Patricia?"

As the other old women started voicing out their choice not to go to the wedding, Patricia Westwood finally said, "It’s the mayor’s eldest daughter’s wedding. It’s only right for me to go."

The women fell silent.

Suddenly, they changed their tune.

"If Patricia’s going, I’m going."

"Me too."

"Then, it’s settled. We’re all going."

Even though they didn’t want to because they thought the second son of MT Technology was not worthy of their attendance, if Patricia said she would go, they would have to follow her.

Technically, in their group, Patricia was the head only because she was the mother of Landon Westwood, the most desirable bachelor, and multi-billionaire who owned the Westwood Group.

Mrs. Moore clenched her hands under the table and looked at Patricia in annoyance. Again, the group revolved around Patricia, even though she wasn’t that much compared to the other wives of wealthy representatives and presidents of a company in their group.

Mrs. Moore eyed Patricia for a long moment.

Then, while everyone was praising her, Mrs. Moore said, "Speaking of weddings, I wonder when will your son marry?"

The table suddenly fell silent.

Her question shocked the other ladies, as they had not expected Mrs. Moore to ask this now.

But they did not respond hastily as they also wanted to know the answer to this question.

Patricia looked calm on the surface as she looked at Mrs. Moore. But the annoyance inside of her boiled over.

"My son is still young. There’s no need for you to be concerned about when he will marry," she replied.

Mrs. Moore didn’t give up and continued asking, "Is your son really divorced?"

Patricia bit her tongue and glared at Mrs. Moore. The mere word ’divorce’ poked at her sore spot.

She couldn’t say a word to respond because she also didn’t know if her son was truly divorced or not. Landon had completely closed himself off from her, his mother, and never talked to her like before.

And when she tried to hint that her son was already done with Lucy and set him up with other girls, Landon stormed right into the house and got so fierce with her!

Her hesitation to answer only made the old women at their table sigh in disappointment. And before Patricia could make a comeback, everyone’s attention went toward ordering their food.

When people learned Landon got married to a woman of unknown origin, they were extremely surprised. They thought he would at least marry high or marry someone in their circle. It was quite a scandal that everyone took a bite in.

Landon and that woman weren’t out in public a lot. However, some people had seen them together, appearing very sweet and intimate with each other, and a rumor soon got out.

Landon Westwood had married his own Cinderella.

It was a love story many admired and also took up in their afternoon teas.

However, three years ago, a strange thing happened.

Landon and his wife were never seen together again.

Rumors soon appeared that Landon had divorced his wife to marry the daughter of the Leblanc family, who was his childhood sweetheart.

Everyone had great anticipation for their wedding. A great union between two top wealthy families.

Yet, contrary to their expectations, a wedding did not happen. But a conflict broke between the two, and Landon was leading it with an aggressive attack against the Leblanc family.

But this was great news to other wealthy families. This was a chance for them to introduce their daughters to Landon.

More than three years later, however, no news of Landon’s engagement or marriage was announced. He was never seen together with another woman again.

Mrs. Moore’s daughter was one of the girls who wanted to marry Landon. But after being refused and having her daughter’s heart torn apart by Landon’s ruthless rejection, she became even more thorny towards Patricia, Landon’s mother.

"Let’s order now."

The other girls agree with Mrs. Moore’s suggestion.

While they listed out what they wanted, a waiter suddenly came to their table with a tray of food.

"You got the wrong table. We haven’t ordered yet." One of the ladies stopped the waiter from serving the food.

The waiter looked at them for a second before his gaze landed on Patricia. "No, I’m at the right table. This food is for the lady in the leopard skirt and red shoes. A customer paid for this and had the kitchen make it specifically for you."

The women turned to Patricia, who looked perplexed by the waiter’s statement.

"Someone paid this for me?" Patricia asked.

The waiter nodded before leaving.

Patricia wondered who it was. Few people knew she was at this restaurant. Emma and her assistant. But they wouldn’t do this.

Suddenly, Patricia’s eyes lit up.

Could it be her son?

Before she went out, she told her son to meet up at this restaurant. But he ignored her message, so she ended up inviting these women out.

Thinking it was Landon who did this to comfort her after ignoring her, Patricia beamed with happiness.

But the smile on her face turned stiff when she saw what was served on her plate.
