The Billionaire's Ex-Wife Returns!
Chapter 12: Two Jarring Hearts

Chapter 12: Two Jarring Hearts

White noise whizzed in her ears as Lucy forgot to breathe.

The phone she was holding in her hand slowly slipped down and fell on the carpeted floor underneath her feet, but she made no effort to bend down and take it back.

"Are you there, Miss Grey?"

"Miss Grey?"

The nurse who delivered the news kept trying to talk to her. Yet Lucy couldn’t bear to listen to any more of her words.

She’s pregnant. Lucy didn’t know how to take in this news.

If she was two months pregnant, there could only be an answer to how it happened. It was on the night when Landon came home drunk. He had been drinking since he heard that Yvonne planned to return for the past few days. And they accidentally slept together.

But Lucy had made sure to drink an after-morning pill the next day. So, how...

Her mind suddenly screeched to a stop.

On that same day, she felt extremely sick for some reason and threw up. It was possible that she also vomited the medicine before it could take any effect!

After understanding the strange circumstances that caused her pregnancy, Lucy suddenly felt nauseous. Her stomach clenched and bile gathered in the back of her throat, threatening to spill over.

She shot up from her chair, and while some passengers were standing in the aisle and looking for their seats, Lucy ran towards the restroom and started to throw up.

Lying next to the toilet, Lucy started to shake all over. Her face and entire body were soaked with sweat and tears as she hugged her knees tightly.

"Idiot...idiot!" Lucy started to slap herself. "This is your fault, Lucy. You could’ve refused him and pushed him away that night. But you got greedy. Now... now, how are you going to fix this?"

"How?!"

More tears dribbled down her face.

Lucy had long faced the fact she was dying. And even though she promised Vanessa she’d get treated for her cancer; Lucy had already given up.

And her moving to another country was an opportunity for her to silently disappear forever.

But she had not expected this to happen.

Bam!

Lucy was startled by the sudden knocking on the door in front of her, followed by the sound of the flight attendant asking if she was alright. After telling the flight attendant everything was okay, Lucy finally got up and wiped the stains on her face.

Looking at herself in the mirror—haggard and hollowed—Lucy wondered what kind of bad luck ended up getting stuck on her that she had to experience these things at this age and all alone.

After fixing her appearance, Lucy stepped out of the cubicle and came face to face with an impatient-looking passenger, who must have been waiting for her to finish.

When she returned to her seat, Lucy sat motionless, her gaze vacant and lifeless.

It wasn’t until the plane finally landed that she finally moved, almost mechanically.

...

At the same time.

Landon loosened his tie and sat on the couch. He released a deep sigh as he planned to take a short nap when the door to his bedroom suddenly burst open and Emma marched towards him.

"Brother, are you seriously an idiot? Yvonne just collapsed and here you are, lying on your bed and sleeping?!" Emma reproached. "This is your chance to get on her good side, but you wasted it!"

Hearing his sister, Landon’s brows furrowed.

When her brother still didn’t respond, Emma became even more excited. "Brother, uncle, and auntie are willing to accept you as their son-in-law. Isn’t that what you’ve been wanting? You’ll get married to Yvonne, too!"

"Emma, get out."

"No, I still—"

"GET OUT!"

Landon’s patience finally broke, like a wire stretched too thin to endure any longer. He couldn’t bear to hear his sister talk about marrying Yvonne at this moment.

And for some inexplicable reason, he felt sick just thinking about it.

He was already married, yet why was everyone trying to push him to another woman?

Landon couldn’t keep up with the confusing things inside his mind. He wanted Yvonne. That’s correct. They were childhood sweethearts, but that wasn’t everything. She was the girl who saved him when he fell from the man-made pond behind his grandfather’s estate. Since then, he swore that he would only marry her.

As childhood friends, classmates, and both their families even considered their union together. However, Yvonne refused to be bound by their families’ arrangement.

And the result of this was Yvonne’s betrayal.

She left the country and started dating other men.

Landon was angry by her willfulness and plotted his revenge. He married Lucy Grey, a beautiful woman who was four years younger than him.

Unlike Yvonne, Lucy was full of life and dreams. She was sweeter than anyone he knew. She was a breeze he never thought he needed, and the lingering scent she left made him reach out for more.

And he would shamelessly admit that whenever they pretended to be a loving couple, a piece of his heart craved for it to be real.

He knew it wasn’t right. To feel this way towards someone he forced into a contractual relationship.

It wasn’t fair. He stole Lucy’s right to choose and marry a man who would love and protect her and whom she would happily give her love. And she would bring the title of a divorced woman forever.

She was four years younger than him. Lucy had a great and huge opportunity in the future. He wouldn’t try to block those away just because he had learned to yearn for her to stay beside him during these past two years.

But he couldn’t bring himself to tell her to divorce.

Not even after Yvonne returned.

The one thing he couldn’t understand was how the divorce agreement appeared in Lucy’s hands.

Landon made sure she wouldn’t get her hands on it. That’s why he kept it beside him, making sure it didn’t disappear from his sight. He even requested to make a special lock and key for it.

Lucy shouldn’t have been able to open the drawers in the first place. The keys for it have been tucked and hidden away.

So, how did she find it?
