Chapter 96: Chapter 96: THE LIVE GUEST – GRACE

Have you ever come across something that looks hilarious and yet at the same time makes a lot of sense? That was what a lot of people were thinking at that moment as they watched the first-ever strange broadcast in their lives.

ZARA: Do you mind telling our viewers your names and what you do?

All eyes were on the screen as they watched the interaction of the two people currently conversing in sign language.

GRACE: My name is Grace, but I prefer being called Ma Dana. I am a single mother of one and I have a beautiful daughter named Dana, of course. I don’t do any fancy job but work as a house help. It’s something I have been doing for a couple of years now.

ZARA: It’s a beautiful thing to know about your daughter. You must be proud of her!

GRACE: I have never been proud of anyone other than her. She is my world, and that girl has never let me down.

ZARA: I feel happy for you just listening to you.

GRACE: Thank you. Your parents must be proud.

ZARA: I hope so. Apart from causing them to worry all these years, I have never done anything much.

GRACE: But everyone can see that you are trying your best and that is what matters.

ZARA: I hope that they will see it that way.

GRACE: They will trust me.

ZARA: So, can you tell us what made you join this contest and what were your feelings during the whole process? How did you manage?

Grace smiled brightly as she looked at Zara before responding.

GRACE: It’s all thanks to my daughter who showed me your page. Being someone who can’t communicate well with others, I find it very difficult to interact. And it’s not usual to find channels like yours. So, when my daughter saw that you can do sign language and manage to interact with others for hours with people who don’t know the language, she introduced me to you.

ZARA: Oh, so it’s all thanks to your daughter? Then I will say thank you to her. It’s really nice to know that children are referring my page to their parents. This means a lot to me.

GRACE: Indeed, it’s pretty good. Even the family which I work for loves you so much. Anyway, after getting to know a channel like yours, I was just happy. It was refreshing and above all, anyone can watch it.

ZARA: I always strive to produce a conducive environment that everyone can feel free being at. At least in the future, when I have a family of my own, I don’t want to look back and regret what I was doing online.

GRACE: That’s true. I have seen a lot of content creators who no longer mind what they do as long as they earn. And sometimes I wonder if they are not afraid of what the future generations would say about them.

ZARA: Life is tough, I guess. Besides, we all have different opinions. So, who are we to judge them?

GRACE: But I still hope that do things moderately.

ZARA: Hahaha, I also hope so. So, how did you feel when you won? Were you afraid or scared of appearing on this LIVE?

GRACE: To be honest, I was pretty scared. At first, I didn’t want to appear as a guest. I was afraid of what people would say and how they would view me. I am not someone from a top family, but a mere house help. I have seen a lot of people degrading maids a lot, and there were times I wanted to quit for the sake of my daughter.

GRACE: If my daughter’s friends and classmates learnt that her mother was working and cleaning other people’s houses, would they continue playing with her? It was already a burden that I was unable to talk to and had to either sign or jot down every time someone was talking to me. And every time it’s like that, I have noticed the weird gazes fixated on me. It’s very uncomfortable at times, but can I run away from it?

ZARA: You can’t run away from it. That’s the cruellest and harsh truth you have to face.

GRACE: I know, right? So, at some point, I thought again. Why bother with other people when my daughter always supports me and is never ashamed of me? Whenever she has a new friend, she always introduces her to me proudly, without evading. So why should I stress myself?

GRACE: I am working hard for my daughter, so why worry about the thoughts of other people? Besides, can I make everyone like me? Even some rich people are hated too, so why should I think too much?

ZARA: Indeed, not everyone is safe when it comes to prejudice. Even myself, I have a lot of people who wish me dead. Unfortunately, it seems that my destiny is getting rewritten. So, I will be stuck for a while now.

GRACE: And it’s great hearing that. I wish you well, and I pray for you that you will recover and be well pretty soon.

ZARA: Thank you for your blessings.

GRACE: Hehe, that’s the only thing that I can do. Because of you, I have gained the confidence I had lost. I never expected that one day, I would freely talk like this and be watched by thousands of people and none of them would scold me or look down on me. For doing this, thank you.

Zara smiled, a sense of satisfaction as a person who had achieved something great filled her.

ZARA: I am glad that you feel that way. So, the jersey you knitted, who are you giving it to?

GRACE: It’s for my daughter. Winter is approaching, so I made her one.

ZARA: Your daughter will surely love it. It’s a pretty and unique design.

GRACE: I hope that she will love it. And thank you everyone for your support. I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for your votes.

ZARA: They all love your jersey. You deserve it.

The two talked about a lot of things, and Zara had a great time conversing with the lady.

ZARA: Thank you for joining us on the broadcast, Ma Dana. It’s been great chatting with you.

GRACE: Thank you for having me.

Zara smiled brightly at the older lady, very happy and grateful that Grace didn’t cower, but appeared confident without flinching.

After a small chat to conclude, Grace dropped from the screen, leaving Zara to conclude the broadcast session.
