Chapter 76: MEMORIES

Chapter 76: Chapter 76: MEMORIES

"Please be patient. She will be fine. The doctors are doing everything they can!"

That’s all she could think about as she sat frozen on the bench, looking at the green light on the door showing that an operation was ongoing inside the theatre.

In her hands, she held a humanoid doll with long blonde hair. It was beautifully dressed and the sparkling jewels on it were something that people would gasp upon seeing. Unfortunately, all that beauty couldn’t be admired, as everyone’s faces looked grim because of what was happening.

The woman holding the doll didn’t know how long it took but it was after a while, a very long time when she saw the familiar face belonging to the chief surgeon in charge of the operation that had her look so grim appeared in front of her.

When she saw the man, the woman hurriedly stood up and her rashness made her stumble a bit, fortunately beside her was a man clad in a suit, wearing a cold expression on his face and it was thanks to him that the woman didn’t fall to the ground.

Standing weakly and taking the man as her anchor, the woman asked the doctor weakly, her eyes red and swollen because of crying, "How is my baby? How is my princess doing?" choking on tears in the process.

The doctor looked at the crying woman and the expressionless man who was doing his best to remain calm. If it weren’t for the clenched fist and popping veins, he could see he would have thought that the man didn’t care.

But knowing these two for years again and knowing how much the patient he had been fighting to save earlier in the theatre meant to them, he could only sigh as he responded, hoping that they would take it easy.

"She is out of danger, but I am afraid that we might have to monitor her for a very long time. She ..."

Avoiding strong words that the couple might not understand, the doctor tried his best to explain the situation to the couple and after everything he said, the man coldly stated, "In other words, you are telling us that you don’t know what is wrong with our baby?"

Upon hearing that, the doctor could only do his best to maintain his demeanor.

"We will do our best to run every test and see what is really going on?"

That was what the doctor said that day, and for fifteen years, the answer was never found.

Looking at the screen and seeing the familiar doll she had thrown away, god knows where; Lena clenched her fists angrily as those memories she had locked in the back of her mind resurfaced.

.....

Clash!

"Damn it! Of all things to be seen, why did it have to be that one?" a young woman wearing a robe angrily cussed as she threw a vase to the floor, her eyes red with fury as she glared at the screen showing a young girl seated in a wheelchair, being in a trance as a boxed doll was in her face.

’F*ck! F*ck. F*ck!’ she cussed inwardly as she clutched her hair with her hands, her jaws clenching as certain memories, memories she had locked away for a good fifteen years, resurfaced.

*

"Why are you going everywhere with that doll?" a young boy asked grimly, as he looked at a young girl, dressed like a princess from a fairy tale holding a pretty doll which was dressed to the nines.

The young girl grinned, showing a toothless smile at him, making him furrow his brows, wondering why he just had to take this little princess out to the park that day.

"She is the prettiest of all dolls. Do you want her?" the little girl bragged before trying to do what she was best at, giving away her many things.

When he heard that, he became infuriated, as all he could think about was the gap between them. He was the son, a male child and yet he couldn’t compare to a little brat who knew nothing but cry, act spoiled and didn’t know anything.

Why were they different?

Anger, jealousy and a murderous glint couldn’t help but flash in his eyes for a second.

"No, you can keep it. Princess, the third brother, has to go to the toilet for a bit. Do you mind waiting for a while?" the young boy asked cautiously the little girl, with his fists clenched, hoping that she wouldn’t throw a tantrum.

The little girl went silent for a while before she grinned toothily, "I will wait for brother!" agreeing with a smile and an unsuspecting gaze.

When he heard that, the young boy heaved with relief. Before he left, he looked at the little girl and ruffled her beautiful auburn hair, promising that he would return shortly.

From a distance, he watched as the little girl started playing with the very pricey doll. Knowing the customized clothes, the doll was wearing, the young boy clenched his fists.

To think that he asked for some increase in pocket money and all he received was a scolding for a full hour and yet the same person who rejected him didn’t mind spending thousands of dollars to have a doll have customized clothes. how could he not be jealous and have crazy thoughts?

Feeling like playing a prank and teaching the little girl a lesson, the young man watched from a distance and didn’t go to her. When she started looking around for him like a fool, he didn’t make a move. It was even the same when those small buns came to bully her for a while.

They were even daring to snatch that doll, and when he saw that happening, his heart ached for a bit, but when he thought of how happy he would be once the doll was gone, he decided to wait for a bit longer.

But who would have known that something that made him regret for the past fifteen years would happen that day?

*

Ashely until this very day, didn’t know exactly what happened. But all she knew was that one second, her little sister was defending herself from those bullies and the next second, the bullies had the doll, but Zara was on the ground, her body twitching as if she had been struck by lightning.

Everything that happened next seemed to be blurry but that same night, everyone in the family received news that Zara was ill and she might not make it.

That same day, Ashely finally felt that her father might really love her, otherwise all the torture she received before that incident was nothing when compared to the harsh punishment she suffered because of her neglect of her sister.

The second Ashely decided to cast away her identity as Axton, the third son of Cade Hansley, all painful memories, especially for that unfortunate day, also disappeared that very day.

But who could tell her what was going on right now?

As she looked at that sorrowful gaze that seemed to be pushed back into the past, Ashely’s mind was in turmoil.

Even if Zara had forgotten before, now it seemed that everything was returning.

After recalling that unfortunate day, she abandoned Zara. Would Zara no longer support and love her the way she had been doing all these years?

For the first time in a very long time, Ashely started knowing what fear was like.

Unfortunately, she wasn’t alone.
