Chapter 161: Chapter 161: AUCTION 4
"Princess, this bracelet, despite looking a bit simple, used to belong to one of the ancient royal families of Athary. Written on that bracelet is something that hasn’t been deciphered yet. But the legend says that it was a message that the owner, who happens to be a princess, got that bracelet from her lover. And it took all his savings to have it crafted. he won her hand in marriage after gifting it to her. They say that his sincerity overwhelmed her. From the moment they got married until death, they were so much in love with each other. That poems and tales had been written for them in Athary," he explained to her, a bit touched by the story behind this bracelet.
He wasn’t sure why they were selling it. After all, it can hold sentimental value if placed in a museum or something.
Surely upon hearing that, Zara understood why everyone was bidding for the bracelet like crazy. Now that she knew about the history of the bracelet, she suddenly smiled, eager to try something.
"I want it. Help me bid for it!" she announced to no one in particular and moments later, her box started participating in the bid.
After a round of crazy biding, Zara won the bracelet for a few million Atharian dollars, which was unexpected, but she felt happy.
More items were auctioned and Zara participated a lot, as well. Some she failed to get, and some she got lucky.
She wasn’t the only rich person at the venue, and she was reminded of that each second.
"Next, we have a diary here. Even the appraisers aren’t sure of what is written there, but everyone thinks that a message is surely hidden in there. Since we can’t decrypt the message, we hope that the person who will buy this diary can tackle this problem and find whatever riches are in there!" while holding a strange thick book with a black cover, the female auctioneer announced.
Upon hearing that, Zara’s curiosity was piqued to the fullest. Strange books and strange languages. Wasn’t that something that she might be interested in?
Having those strange dreams for a while, Zara understood that in that dream, she was always speaking a very strange language. In these times, she hadn’t heard anyone speaking like that at all. Even when the words were written down, if it wasn’t because she was dreaming and the person, she was seeing was her incarnation, it would have been difficult for her to understand.
So, she was quite curious about what the book was hiding, so she nudged at Amir, urging him to join the bid battle.
And so, it began.
"A$50,000."
"A$500,000."
The bid prices kept on increasing and when the figure reached A$1 million, suddenly no one wanted to bid anymore.
Honestly, it was understandable. The book didn’t have any origins and buying it might be a waste of time. And there were still many other things that hadn’t been auctioned yet. so, people didn’t want to continue anymore.
Zara felt excited, as the book was going to be hers. She couldn’t hide her face.
When the auctioneer called once, twice and was just about to call for the third time and call it official, suddenly from box number 8, a new bid was called, "A$2 million," starting a new bid war between Zara and whoever was in that room.
Zara felt frustrated as the other person continued to increase for no reason. She felt as if she was being toyed with, and even those who were watching felt sorry for her.
Suddenly, the bidding war reached an extent that even the auctioneer was at a loss but at the same time very happy. After all, who would have thought that the strange book picked from a box collecting dust would end up fetching A$20 million and even more if the war continued?
Hearing the bid price, Amir held Zara’s hand and shook his head lightly, saying to her, "Let’s just leave it. It’s a lot of money to waste on a book that might not give you anything!" advising her to give up.
Hearing that, Zara pouted sulkily. She didn’t want to lose, but at the same time, she understood Amir’s concern as well. In the end, she stopped biding, and the guest in box 8 won the book.
After that, a few more things appeared and Zara bided, won some and lost some as well.
With the auction coming to an end, there was always that one piece, always reserved to be the centerpiece and the one piece that everyone would be eager to check out and bid for it its worthy.
That time finally graced everyone and the whole hall was excited.
"What do you think they are going to sell this time?" Zara asked curiously as she watched the auctioneer and a few men in black whispering behind the curtain.
Amir shook his head, completely dark when it came to the last item on the list. He didn’t have a lot of contacts in Athary, so was at a loss as well.
Seeing that Amir didn’t know as well, Zara could only wait to see what was going to happen.
Moments later, a trolley was pushed into the front and all the noise died down.
The auctioneer’s smile this time was big and everyone could tell that whatever was hiding beneath the cover was something special.
"As you all know, everything must always come to an end no matter how much we are reluctant to do so!" the lady started lightly, earning chuckles from the crowd before continuing gracefully, "What we have here is the last item we will be auctioning tonight and trust me, it is the kind that you all don’t want to miss!" speaking in a mysterious tone that made everyone eager to see what it was.
Seeing everyone’s eagerness and curiosity piqued, the lady smiled at everyone as she walked towards the trolley. And under everyone’s eyes, she removed the cover, only to reveal a small jade bottle which earned surprise gasps from the crowd.
"What is that?"
"Is this a joke?"
Even Zara was baffled by what she saw. How can the centerpiece be a small bottle like that?
