THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY -
Chapter 98: WHIRLWIND GAMES
Chapter 98: WHIRLWIND GAMES
"You’re crazy, you know?" Landon shook his head.
"For?" Ace cocked an amused brow.
Landon, stretching his tired legs forward, reclined into the chair. "You do know that arrogant honesty of yours could have cost you?"
"But it didn’t. Besides, why should I have been cautious about telling the truth? He fucked around and found out. I’ll be damned if I take the fall over beating up a sexual deviant."
With his lips pursed, he tilted his head from side to side, finally understanding Ace’s angle. "I get you, but we still need to be very careful. And speaking of being careful, Grant just texted me."
"What’d he say?"
"They’ve taken down the videos. Even offered an apology. He asked them to email it to you, and the public."
"Excellent," Ace bobbed his head appreciatively, but paused when his phone buzzed with a notification. Lowering his gaze to the screen, he saw an alert pop up. He frowned for a few seconds, then very slowly, started to smile.
"Hey, Lan, when women are mad at you, what do they do again?"
Landon, who had been observing the avalanche of emotions on his friend’s face, narrowed his gaze. "They slash tires, take something very important to you as a form of threat, text your—"
"Women who are actually women and not Reign King," he interrupted before he could go any further.
"Oh, you should have been specific. Well technically, they could do something like go shopping with your card, and spend heavily."
His eyes shut forward with glee. "You know sometimes, I appreciate the fact you’re my friend. You can get quite intuitive."
Halfway through a smile shooting out, Landon paused, and shot him a quizzical glance instead. "Wait, why are you suddenly heaping praises on me? You barely ever do that. Did something happen?"
"Something did happen. I just got an alert from an ice cream shop. Apparently, Fay has just spent a cute amount of money in buying ice cream. It’s cute for us, but I’m sure she thinks she’s hurt my pockets."
"And this is making you smile, why?"
"Well for one, she didn’t burn my clothes, or kidnap the shipping agent for my company’s goods. Shows that I’ve actually made significant progress in my choice of women."
"Ace, you do know your wife is hurt, right? Sure your relationship is not genuine outside of what you both stand to gain from each other, but she’s a woman with feelings. From all indications, she’s the kind of person that feels deeply. I think you should be thinking of ways to make it up to her."
"I understand that, and I—" his voice suddenly trailed as he threw Landon a suspicious glare. "Why exactly are you so worried about Fay? You always talk about her to me with such kindness. Why’s that?" He quizzed in an accusatory tone.
Landon chuckled nervously, shifting uncomfortably in his seat. "Why do you sound that way? Of course I worry about fay. In case you haven’t noticed yet, she’s a stranger in this world. Imagine being pulled out of a world you’re already used to, to this kind where money is not a problem as much as being targeted for the pettiest reason. And to top it off, the person that brought her in, and is supposed to have her back, might be handful with supporting his kid from a crazy woman, soon. How would you feel?"
Ace opened and shut his mouth. The nerve of Landon who was the epitome of a chronic womanizer to shame him this good.
Unfortunately, he was right. Fay deserved better. She had been nothing but good, patient, and understanding. She wasn’t deserving of the plague, Reign was.
He sighed out loud. "You’re right, but it’s like I said before. I didn’t know anything happened between Reign and I. I was super out of it, worrying about Fay. It’s no excuse, and I should and will definitely make it up to her," he said.
Still, Landon didn’t stop staring at him weirdly.
"What?" He bulged his curious eyes.
"You care about her, don’t you?" he asked like it was supposed to be some revolutionary question.
"Well, I brought her into this mess. I have to."
"No," he shook his head in a violently disagreeing pattern. "Aside from the fact you brought her into this mess, you care about the woman. I see it in your eyes. Are you–"
"Okay, hold that thought, whatever it is. You’re getting a little ahead of yourself. I sympathize with Fay. I realize she’s in this situation because of me. I even care about her safety, but let’s get one thing straight, she’s still not my ideal woman."
"Bullshit," he scoffed. "Let’s take your word for what it is, for a few seconds. You’re the same guy who’s ideal woman is currently dealing with him. I think it’s time you reevaluate your choices and ideals."
"Who ever said Reign was my ideal woman? Why are you pushing this?" He scrunched his face in confusion.
"Because, I have a feeling you’re not telling yourself the truth. No man would have a girl as complete as Fay, and not be completely whipped. I for sure know if she was my —"
"Again," Ace interrupted coldly. "A thought that should die in your head. She’s never going to be your woman. In fact—"
This time, he was interrupted by his phone ringing.
"I’ll get back to that thought," he bobbed his head, as he brought his screen to his face. "Of course," he muttered.
"Who’s that?"
"Celine," he said, as he answered, and placed the call on loudspeaker. Dropping the device on the table, he reclined, and waited to hear her grating voice.
"I see you move fast," she said, interrupting a brief silence that had ensued.
"Not as fast as you, though. To my detriment, yeah?" He spoke casually.
"How did you like my gift?" She asked. He rolled his eyes when he heard the gloating in her voice.
"Just like your other schemes, it amounted to nothing. You know for someone who moves so slimy and dirty all the time, it’s laughable how you’ve never made any real impact."
"That’s what you think, and that’s why I know you’re still a child. A pathetic child at that. Not to worry, Ace. The seeds have been planted already. You may have been able to bring down those videos, but the digital footprint is sealed. Soon, not even your charms would have anyone rooting for you. They’ll think about all the stories of your violence, and turn against you. What would the incredible Ace Atticus be without the morbid fascination of the public? I thirst for that day," she cackled maniacally.
He wiggled his nose, partly in disgust by her twisted mind, but also in pity. She really did believe she was going to defeat him someday. That she would have him at her mercy. He would rather die than let that day materialize.
"I want you to remember you played dirty first. Now that we’ve established the fact that nothing is off the table, I really want to wish you good luck. With all my heart, Aunt Celine," he said sarcastically.
"You’ll need it more. Your wife too. Just like I sent you a gift, I did the same for her. She should have seen it already. A little bird tells me you’re not around her to play captain save a whore, either. Should I just call the doctor who is also competing for her heart? Maybe he’ll do a better job in—"
"What did you do to Fay!" He sat up, his hand folding reflexively into a fist.
"It wouldn’t be a surprise if I told you now, would it?" She laughed mockingly.
"If anything happens to Fay, anything at all, you wouldn’t know peace for the rest of your miserable life on earth," he warned dangerously.
"Ooouuu!" She made shivering noises. "I’m so scared of the man that probably doesn’t even know the whereabout of his woman. How ever will I sleep now?"
"What did you do to–"
"Goodbye Ace. My regards to Landon. He’s probably so far up your ass, he can’t even come out for breath." She ended the call, not giving him a chance to get another word out.
"Damn it!" He slammed the table with his fist, and it rattled aggressively.
"Ace, what are we going to do?" Landon asked his friend who had already jumped to his feet.
He picked up his phone from the table, and strode purposefully out the door. Landon immediately followed after him.
"Marilyn! Alice!" He screamed, hoping that one out of the two women were in the house.
As he took the stairs down, Alice dashed into the living room.
"Where is Fay?!" He thundered.
"Sir–sir Ace," she stuttered over her words.
"Where the hell is Fay?" He repeated his voice, getting more aggravated.
"She—?"
"She what?" He interrupted impatiently.
She closed her eyes, and whispered an apology to Fay in her head. When she opened her eyes again, her mouth started to spill. "She went to the ice cream store as a disguise to send her aunt money," she divulged shakily.
He hissed between his teeth. "Dammit Fay!"
