THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY
Chapter 82: FOUND IN THE RAIN

Chapter 82: FOUND IN THE RAIN

Fay couldn’t spend one more second in that house.

The matriarch wanted to buy her more than she had already been bought. Celine Atticus hated her, and would do anything to see her out of their lives for good.

The uncle was a sexual predator who could have had his way with her, and non one would have known or believed her.

Then there was Ace. She thought things were going to be good with them, after his declaration.

Even if he didn’t have feelings for her, she could trust that he would protect her.

But how could someone with such a grudge in their heart protect her?

Someone with so much hate that could redden the deep blue sea.

He had fantasized about killing his aunt in the most gruesome way possible.

Sure, she had her excesses, and was a horrible person, but what she had just seen was not justifiable in her head.

Wiping off her tears, she made her way out the door.

She needed fresh air. At the very least, leave behind the trauma she had stumbled upon.

Everyone was running helter skelter when she made it out of the door.

Good, she thought. No one would notice her going about.

She still didn’t know her way around, but she trusted her instinct and just kept on walking.

By some stroke of luck, she wandered into the living room after going round in circles, without encountering anyone.

There were a lot of the family gathered in the living room. Just outside, an ambulance drove into the compound.

No one was paying any attention to the next person, as they were solely focused on watching their uncle being carried out of the house.

Using their distraction to her own gain, she maneuvered her way through, and sneaked out of the house.

Before she could stop to think, and gauge her reaction to things, she found herself slipping past the gate, and taking to her heels.

She wasn’t sure where she was headed, all she wanted to do was leave.

She ran for as long as her breath could carry her. When she couldn’t feel her legs anymore, she began to slow down.

It took her a while to reconcile herself with her environment. Raising her head up, she discovered she was out of the street, and on the pedestrian side of the highway.

A honk blasted, and her heart almost jumped to her mouth.

"Oh my God! What have you done, Fay?" She questioned herself, as cars after cars passed by.

Barefooted, and with no knowledge of where she was, she picked up the hem of her gown, and just walked.

As she did, heavy tears ran down her face.

Nothing good ever lasted when it came to her. She could never just be happy. Something had to always happen to dampen her happiness.

"Why?" She beat her chest over and over again, crying profusely.

"Fay, you need to turn around and find your way back to Ace. Don’t do this," one of the voices in her head popped up to say.

"Nope. She needs to keep going. Maybe she has run the course of her relationship with the Atticus’. They don’t value her. All of them have psychopathic tendencies. I personally think she should go far away and never return."

"But where will she go? She knows no one. Doesn’t have a cent on her. Everyone around is driving in a car. She’s the only one walking. This is dangerous, Fay. Go back!"

Thunder suddenly struck, causing Fay to shudder.

"Please don’t tell me it’s about to rain," she whispered.

It was as if the universe was listening. The second the words left her parted lips, it began to drizzle.

"Oh no Fay, turn back!"

"No, keep going."

She was at her breaking point, and couldn’t go on anymore.

Dropping to her knees, she began to wail into the sky as the rain began to drop down heavily.

Cars after cars zoomed past her. No one stopped to help. She was by herself, crying and loathing her misfortune.

With every tear she spilled, the rain grew heavier. Soon she was totally drenched.

Her teeth clattered, her body shivered, her nose ran, and her teary eyes stung.

Everything hurt. Her head, her heart, and even the spaces between her limbs.

"Oh Fay, please stand up. Please! You have the strength to do it. Don’t give up. Stand up and find a shade, or at least, return to Ace."

"Ace?" It scoffed. "That monster cares only about himself. Why has he not discovered she’s missing yet? Why has he not come to save her?"

She felt her breath start to grow fainter, and she knew she was in real trouble.

"I– I can’t bre–ath,"

Her eyes began to close. This was the end for her. She could see her life flash before her.

A memory she didn’t know belonged to her, arose in her head.

There was a big house, with a big gate. It had a big garden, with lots of flowers.

"Fay, don’t let the bees sting you!" A sonorous voice lovingly called.

"Who are you?" Her thought echoed, as her vision grew even more faint.

Instead of a response, she saw the silhouette of a person hovering above her. It’s mouth moved, but she couldn’t make out what it was saying.

All she knew was that it bent, and that was when the world went blank.

Fay’s eyes opened, and the first thing she saw were bright lights.

Her eyes snapped shut again, the brightness of the light irritating her lens.

"She’s awake? I think she just moved," she heard someone say, and went still.

"Are you sure? Let’s take a look."

She felt two heads watching her. Waiting for her to give them a sign that she was indeed awake. She would, but she was scared.

Of what, she didn’t know yet. Her brain was all jumbled, and jam-packed with thoughts that were neither coherent or understandable.

"Fay?" She heard her name being called.

She knew it was her name because she just knew.

Her eyes flickered open, and recognition passed through them in an instant.

"Alexander?" She muttered.

"Leighton?" She called when her head moved to the side.

"She’s awake!" Leighton screamed and hugged her before Alexander could stop her.

They hugged for a few minutes, before slowly, she raised herself into a sitting position.

The lights were less harsh in her eyes now, after fully adjusting to them.

"The rain!" She suddenly snapped a finger, as her memories were swiftly unlocked.

"Yeah Fay," Leighton said, creating a space to sit beside her. "We found you by the side of the road, drenched in the rain. What were you thinking? What happened?"

"What did Ace do to you? Do I need to involve the police?" Alexander asked, seething.

She opened her mouth, and closed it right back.

Regardless of how horrible the situation was, she just couldn’t tell the Atticus’ business.

"How did you find me?" She opened her mouth again to ask.

Leighton looked at Alexander who gave her a nod to go ahead. Confused at their weird communication, Fay decided to wait patiently for an explanation.

"We were coming from a shift when we drove past you. I saw bright red and instantly thought of you. I didn’t know Alexander was thinking the same thing too until he stopped the car, and popped out of it. Imagine my surprise when we discovered it was actually you. What are the odds, I mean." She shuddered as she recanted the experience.

"What happened, Fay? You’re lucky you’re not showing any serious symptoms. You could have gotten a fever, or God forbid, pneumonia. We still have to run some tests to ensure you’re okay. What were you thinking?" He shook his head.

"I was being overdramatic, and stepped out of the house. I need to call Ace to tell him where I am. Where’s my–" she paused, remembering she hadn’t stepped out with her purse. "I don’t have his number by heart," she muttered and a single tear dropped down her face.

"Fay, stop crying! If you need me to contact Ace, I’ll call the chief and find out if he can send me his contact. I don’t have your number because you left the hospital when I was handling a shift. I would have dialed it in hopes that someone would pick up. For now, I really think you should rest some more."

"Can I?" She asked, but staring past Leighton to look at Alexander who was clearly irritated by the whole ordeal.

She could feel the anger emanating from him.

"You can. The room is big enough. If you need anything, don’t hesitate to call me. But I’m not going to be at ease until you explain why the hell you were out in the rain, on a highway." He turned around, and walked away.

"He’s really pissed, Leigh," she said.

"Yeah. That’s because he cares about you more than anyone," she said, her heart ripping into pieces.
