Chapter 81: ACE SAW RED

"What have you done, Ace?" Caleb Atticus, Ace’s uncle, stopped him before he could get to the spot where the majority of the family were rallied around his other uncle.

"What was said that I did?" He asked, shoving his hands into his pocket, clearly unbothered.

"Carl said you beat him up because your wife was throwing herself at him, and he decided to gently tug her away. You came into the scene, and misinterpreted what was going on."

"Oh that’s what he said?" He chuckled dryly. "Maybe he needs to be reminded of the actual truth."

He shoved past him, storming towards the gathering.

"Ace!" Caleb called, and everyone’s head rotated behind to see the angry man with a folded fist approaching.

"Hey—"

"Get out of my way," he said to Colin who was blocking his path.

"I need you to pipe down. What the fuck is going on?"

"Nothing. I just want uncle dearest to repeat the explanation he gave to you all, to my face. Go on," he directed at the man he could clearly see now, after the circle parted for him to go through.

It was just the younger ones surrounding him, with the exception of his uncle Caleb of course.

Colin’s sister was tending to his wounds. Trying to clean it up before the possibility of an infection heightened..

The bleeding man lowered his gaze, as his heartbeat skyrocketed. He wasn’t expecting Ace to return; banking on him taking care of his wife who must be shaky.

"What the fuck did you say my wife tried to do to you?!" He repeated, shoving Colin to the side when he didn’t get a response.

Quickly recovering, Colin stepped into his path again before he could get to the man.

"You want to stay out of my way bro," he warned.

"Everyone’s watching, Ace," Colin tried to reason with him in a low voice.

"I don’t give a fuck."

Easily, he sidestepped him, and lunged forward. A collective gasp sounded, as Colin’s sister used her body as a shield in covering her uncle.

Ace’s fist froze in the air as soon as he saw what she did.. At the same time, someone stormed into the scene.

"Ace Atticus!" He heard the unbearable voice of his aunt, the bastard’s partner in crime.

Slowly, he turned around. The family stepped back, giving them space.

"What exactly do you think you’re doing?"

"Beating him up, why?" He shrugged.

"Do you have no shame? You walk into a house that isn’t yours, and beat up my brother? For what?!" Thick veins popped up in her head, as fury surged through every bone in her body, and radiated through her glaring eyes.

"Because I can?"

"Ace?" One of his little cousins sighed.

It was no use talking to him. Once he got like this, it was best to leave him be. They all knew this situation had been a long time coming. Still, not everyone was ready for the cankerworms his actions were about to open.

"You little bastard!"

"My son is not a bastard!" Gabrielle suddenly appeared behind her.

Another gasp followed through. Gabrielle never spoke too much. She wasn’t the kind to come in to defend anything.

Years and years of accepting just anything from Celine, had everyone calling her a doormat. The collective shock on their faces at her outburst, testified to how silent she had been over the years in the face of verbal abuse.

"Mum, allow me to handle this," Ace said.

"No, I won’t. I’m tired of my character and that of my children being questioned. I told you years ago in secret to get a DNA test if you’re so unsure of Ace’s paternity. I’m saying it now in the open. I’m giving you the permission to do it. But the nonsense ends tonight. I won’t watch you question my faithfulness to your bro-ther," she said, her voice cracking as she fought off the sting of tears in her eyes.

Celine broke into a feat of sinister laughter.

"What are you going to do about it, Gabby?" She mocked. "If you were serious about the paternity test, you would have given the boy to me when he was a child and I requested to do one. Why did you refuse then?"

"Because I know how twisted you are, Celine. You could have easily changed the result."

She cackled, and took a step toward Gabrielle. "You live in this house because my brother was generous enough to marry a nobody like you. You better watch your tone with me."

"Enough Celine!" Caleb Atticus screamed, but Ace was ahead of him.

"My mum is not who you have a problem with. You leave her out of this, and face me. What are you so afraid of Celine?"

Another gasp echoed. Some clutched invincible pearls, and the others looked around to see who could mirror the expressions on their faces.

"It’s Aunt Celine to you!" She turned her attention to him.

"Why? You don’t even consider me a legitimate member of this family. Why would you be an Aunt to me, Celine?" He repeated.

"You think you’re all that right?" She took a step forward, and then another. Approaching him like a predator sizing up its prey. "What did that redhead whore of yours do this time? She tried to seduce Carl? Is that it?"

"Don’t you dare!" He hissed between his teeth, his eyes darkening.

"Don’t I dare what? Tell us why you hit your uncle then. Her Aunt, the woman that raised her told me that at barely fourteen, Ace’s beloved wife tried to seduce her husband. She threw her naked body at him in hopes to get her Aunt out of the house. Perhaps, the whore did the same to Carl!" She spat venomously.

Ace closed his eyes and took a deep breath. She was provoking him. Hoping to get a rise out of him so she could further push the agenda that he was abusive.

"How could you say something like that, Celine? You believe a child would try to seduce a grown man? Isn’t it the other way? How low can you go?" Gabrielle asked, completely appalled at the words that came out of her mouth.

"Celine is right," Carl said with a swollen mouth. "She threw herself at me, and when I didn’t return the gesture, she got mad and tried to frame me for sexual coer—"

Ace whirled around, and descended on him before he could finish his words.

His aunt he could not hit because she was a woman, but his uncle and his audacity to lie? That he could handle.

Colin’s sister screamed and jumped out of the way, not expecting Ace to go off like that.

Ace dragged him to his feet, and laid a punch on him. He was about to connect the second when a hand from behind held him back.

He turned his head over his shoulder, and saw that it was his uncle.

"Please stop," Caleb pleaded.

"This bastard is lying about Fay. I was there. I heard every fucking thing he said to her!"

He pulled his hands out of his uncle’s grip, and landed a punch straight to his nose.

They heard a cracking sound, and Colin quickly joined his father in trying to stop Ace.

"Can you see the monster you raised?" Celine screamed back at Gabrielle who held back her tongue.

She usually would be at the forefront for peace, but enough was enough. Her children were not punching bags for anyone. It was time that they defended themselves.

"Won’t you do something? Tell him to stop!" She continued screaming, as Ace refused to let go of his hold around the man’s neck, despite the force in which Colin and his father tried to get him away.

He was going to kill him if they didn’t stop him. It was only a matter of a few seconds, the way he was strangling his neck.

"Please Ace!" The rest of the cousins screamed and begged.

They had never seen him this furious, and it was all because of his wife.

"What the heck is going on here!" A cane beat the ground, its thumping sound echoing into their ears.

Ace’s hand froze, and he let go. Carl crumpled to the ground, struggling to breath.

"Someone call 911!" A voice screamed.

Feets shuffled. Some scurried away, others panicked.

Ace stood shivering with the anger that was still written all over his body.

"Can you see what that monster has done to your son? All because of his whore of a wife?!"

"Shut up Celine! You," she pointed at Ace with her cane. "Come with me," she whirled and struck her cane to the ground. "Get the hospital to come as fast as they can," she said behind her shoulder, as she walked away.

With a grinding jaw, Ace followed after his grandmother.

When he passed by his mother, she gave him a smile, instead of the disappointed look he was expecting.

Good, he had the support of the one person who mattered the most to him. The rest of them could burn in hell for all he cared.
