Chapter 60: URGENCY

"Do we have any other questions?" Ace turned his head around, looking at every face present in the room.

"When are we going to announce this new company?" His grandmother asked.

"That’s for me, the president to decide."

She smiled at those words, and nodded her head. "All in favor of Ace’s decision?" She raised her hand.

Lynette didn’t waste time following. Next was Landon, and Manny, followed by Dennis.

Reluctantly, Theresa lifted her hands. It was just Tyler and Celine left.

"Well six is the majority. You do what you have to do, Ace," she said, rising to her feet. "Celine, would you walk me out?"

Celine forced a smile on her face. "Sure," she said in a monotonous voice.

Sparing one last look at Ace, who returned the threat in her stare, she huffed and stepped to her mother.

"Goodbye everyone," his grandmother said behind her shoulder, as she was led out of the room.

"Ace!" Lynette quickly hopped over to him when the door closed behind them. "You fucking scared me, you fucker!" She said, pushing his arms playfully.

"Language please." Theresa scrunched her nose.

Lynette rolled her eyes, and ignored her. "Oh Ace, I was so scared you wouldn’t come. I thought I should have called you myself. Perhaps, Lan was not able to deliver my message. But just as cool as you’ve always been, you arrived at the nick of time!" She gestured the okay sign with her finger, making him grin.

"Why didn’t you call me yourself?"

"Well you know how it went the last time I did. You were still dating that crazy girl. Wait, she’s not the woman you married, is she? The press didn’t show a clear picture of your wife," she said, worried lines spreading across her face.

"Reign? Nah, not Reign."

"Good for you. There’s some sense in that gorgeous head of yours."

Manny scoffed from behind. "Is there a reason you’re flirting with a married man?" He asked.

"Me? Flirt? Please Man. Why don’t you focus on your underaged, and let the real adults talk?"

"She’s not underaged! She’s fucking twenty-two!" His forehead creased, as his eyes shot daggers at her.

"Don’t you mean he’s fucking twenty-two?" She said sarcastically.

He was in the middle of huffing when he caught the meaning of what she said. "You–"

"Bitch! I can help with that," Tyler chipped in.

"Language!" Theresa repeated, but everyone ignored her.

"Who are you calling a bitch?" Lynette twirled, facing Tyler.

"I just helped him with the word he’s looking for." He shrugged innocently.

"You shouldn’t call a woman a bitch, Tyler. If there’s any bitch here, it’s you who won’t stop kissing the ass of a woman, just because of what you think you’d gain someday. Newsflash, Celine would never fuck you."

"Oh My God! I’m done with all of you. If this meeting is over, I want to be excused. I have church to attend!" Theresa jumped to her feet, and grabbed her bag.

"Church huh? Say hi to your pastor." Lynette laughed.

"Maybe they’re all right about you," she countered. "Ace, congrats on retaining your position. Now if you’ll excuse me." She nudged her head slightly, and began walking away.

"Hey, wait for me. I’ll ride with you," Dennis said, shooting forward. He laughed when he saw the questioning looks on their faces. "Didn’t feel like driving today," he explained.

They all nodded, but deep down, they knew his ex-wife was in town. Whenever she was, he never drove his fleet of cars. She had promised to set up an accident that would end his life, after catching him in bed with another man, while they were still married.

"Bye Ace!"

"Bye." Ace waved at him.

He turned his eyes, and it took a darkness as it rested on Tyler.

Purposefully, he began to stride towards the man.

The second Tyler turned and saw Ace approaching, a shudder ran through him, and he took a step back.

"You," Ace stopped directly in front of him. "I’m getting sick and tired of your bullshit. You keep testing me. Forgetting I can end you just like this," he snapped his finger, and Tyler flinched. "Be very careful."

He retreated, and turned around. "Lan? Let’s go."

"Sure." The man who had been quiet all along said.

He threw the trembling Tyler a look, and chuckled.

"Who is the bitch now?"

"Tyler!" Lynette and Manny chorused at the same time.

A smirk formed on Ace’s face, as he exited the boardroom.

He went straight to his office. His secretary was not in hers when he passed by, but Grant was waiting for him by his door.

The Stuart man stopped pacing when he saw his boss arrive.

"Sir Ace!" He jumped

"Why are you here?" He asked, pushing the door to his office open.

The smell of citrus filled his nose, and he squeezed it.

"I said I hate this smell. Why do they still insist on spraying it around?" He frowned, and took his seat.

Grant stepped forward, bobbing his head. "I’ll let them know, henceforth."

"Why are you acting so shady?" His eyes narrowed towards the man who had resumed pacing in his office

Before he could answer, Landon stepped into the office.

"Sir Landon." Grant bowed.

"Hey Grant," Landon threw him a wave, before turning to Ace. "Your briefcase." He dropped it on his desk, and turned around.

Crashing on the couch, he placed his hand behind his head for the pillow effect. "What did I miss?"

"Grant was just telling me why he’s acting weird," Ace said.

He snickered. "Has there ever been a time he acted normal?"

"Good question," Ace nodded. "Grant, would you answer that question? Or at least explain why you’ve turned my office to a pace center. God I hate this citrus smell!" He doubled down.

"What do you mean? I love it! Would you rather, lavender?"

"I would even take jasmine at this point."

"What do you have against oranges?" Landon leaned forward, and cocked a brow.

"Are oranges the only citruses? Why would I have a problem with oranges?"

"Now you want to deny that you have a problem with oranges?" He scoffed. "Freshmen year—"

"Oh there he goes again," Ace interrupted, rolling his eyes.

"Are you going to let me finish?"

"Nope. Accept it. We’re never going to see eye to eye concerning that topic. You remember the events differently than I do."

"But you never let me–"

"I said, no."

"And I insist."

"The construction workers have not been paid in two weeks, and they went to protest in your house!" Grant suddenly blurted out.

The duos bickering halted, as they directed their gaze to Grant.

"What did you just say?" Ace questioned in an icy voice.

Grant took a step back, ready to dash out of the room, just in case Ace decided to go ballistic.

"I swear to you sir Ace, it wasn’t my fault. We already have an automatic payment system for them. I went to the IT unit when I learnt about the delay, and they told me they were ordered to stop the automatic payment."

Ace’s brow snapped. "Ordered? By who?"

"Mrs Ce-line," he stuttered.

"Of course," he muttered under his breath, while Landon hissed.

"She’s doing too much now. Why would she order a thing like that?"

"To sabotage me. Isn’t that her priority in life? She knows how important the resort is, but God forbid she lets Ace take the glory for anything. You know, I’m getting sick of this bullshit. This close to losing it!" He gesticulated with his finger.

"You’ve been strangely patient. Why?"

He didn’t respond, instead he jumped to his feet. "You said they’re protesting?"

"Yeah. Cam told me. He said one of your domestic staff called to tell him."

"Do you want me to come with you?" Landon asked, rising to his feet.

"No, you stay back. I want you to go to IT, and handle everything that needs to be handled. You better succeed, because if I have to come down there myself, it would be a bloodbath."

Landon nodded, as Ace walked past the desk, and went straight to the door.

In no time, he was in the elevator. Whipping out his phone from his pocket, as the elevator opened up for him to step out, he dialed Cam.

"Where are you?" He asked the second his driver answered.

"In the parking lot, why?"

"Turn the car around, we’re going home."

He ended the call as he stepped into the lobby. Silence descended the large hall the moment he became visible. Their eyes followed every step he took.

Ignoring their stares, he walked out of the company, at the same time Cam made the round and stopped in front of him.

He was about to enter the car, when he caught his Aunt from the corner of his eyes.

He turned his head, and saw her beside a woman. He could already tell who she was before she lifted her head.

She smiled when their eyes met. Waving his Aunt goodbye, she sashayed towards him..

"Not now," he mumbled, as the purposeful click of Reigns’ heels approached him.
