Chapter 35: GARBAGE IN, GARBAGE OUT

Ace pushed the doors of a ward, and found it empty. Dragging her inside, he shut the door with the back of his legs.

"What the hell are you doing here? Did you follow me?!" He asked, letting her go.

"It wasn’t easy, my love. I had to watch you drive for over two hours like a guilty rat. Seriously, what happened to you?"

"You’re crazy, Reign. You’ve absolutely lost your mind!"

"You’ve not seen crazy, Ace! I’m the crazy one? You’re the one who brought me out in the middle of the night, just to leave me hanging. An eye for an eye, right?"

"I swear to God Reign you’re getting on my nerves," he drew closer to her, a warning finger projected forward. "I can deal with your thoughtless and impulsiveness when it’s directed at me, but you stay away from Fay!" He stood in front of her, his eyes spitting fire.

"You shouldn’t have gotten with her if you really wanted me to stay away. You’re not going to intimidate me this time around, Ace. That bitch of yours is going to feel my sting everyday of her life, until you do the right thing!"

"And what is the right thing!" He thundered.

"Kick her to the curbs and get with me! You belong to me, and I to you. She doesn’t fit with you. Don’t you get it?" She hissed between her teeth.

He turned around, his hand slapping against his forehead.

"You’re insane," he muttered over and over again, feeling his fury spread. The more he tried to contain it, the more her audacity tore at him.

He blamed himself. He had encouraged her bitching. Made her feel like a goddess amongst other women, and now she thought she owned him.

"You’re going to leave, and never show yourself in my presence, or my wife’s." He returned his gaze to her.

"You don’t seem to get it yet. I’m not leaving. I’ll stick by your side, and comfort you. When she’s fully recovered, we’ll go home together. It’s going to be me and you, or a threesome. Choose wisely." She taunted, making jeering faces at him.

"We’ll see about that." He whipped out his phone from his pocket, and began to scroll through his contacts.

"What are you doing?" She stretched her neck to look into his screen. "Oh," she scoffed."Whatever you’re trying to do, two can play that game."

She took her phone out of her purse, a smug look on her face. He paused scrolling for a second, and raised his head up. "What are you doing?" His brow snapped, causing his eyes to squint.

"I’m going to call your Aunt right now, and tell her everything that has happened. Let’s watch her have a field day, pinning you for intended murder."

"You wouldn’t dare!"

"Try me!"

A smile spread across his face, causing her fingers to falter a little.

"Why are you smiling?" She asked, cautiousness heavy in her voice, and eyes.

"Go ahead. Call my Aunt," he said, calling off her bluff.

"You think I won’t do it? Don’t dare me Ace."

He shrugged smugly. "I don’t care. Do what you have to do. Sing like the bird you are if you want to. But when you’re done, I hope for your sake, you keep yourself far away from me. I ever see you close to me—" he laughed dryly, and turned away from her.

"Ace!" She called, hating how a little shaky her voice was.

He walked away without giving her a response. Trying to treat Reign with anything other than disrespect had made her think she had the right to meddle in his life. It was a mistake he had learnt from, and wasn’t going to repeat ever again.

Now she knew how much of a fuck he didn’t give, she’d leave. She’d go back to the drawing board and restrategize. One thing he’d give her was her ability to never give up on the things she wants the most.

She’ll try again, and it was left to him to not let her succeed.

As he walked through the hallway, he saw the day brighten through the corner of his eyes. Over twelve hours of being up. Worrying about Fay, and the insanity that is, Reign King.

He raised his arm, to check the time. In exactly two hours, he had an important meeting with the board at Spades. A zero rest Ace, heading an important meeting?

"We’ll see about that," he muttered to himself.

A group of nurses passed by, and their faces instantly lit up with recognition when they saw him.

"Oh my God, that’s Ace Atticus!" He heard one say.

"What’s he doing in the hospital?" Another asked.

He held his breath, purposely slowing down his strides so he could catch their response.

"I don’t know, but we should find out."

’Good,’ he thought in his mind. It was good they didn’t know about Fay yet.

Taking a turn, he went down the path of the private ward Fay was transferred to.

The first person he saw was Marilyn. She was sitting on one of those couches reserved for visitors, with her head bent a little.

She was obviously tired, and taking out time to rest.

Quietly, he opened his contacts, and dialed Cam.

"Where are you?" He asked when his personal driver answered.

"At the parking lot. I was restless, so I did a little digging."

"I told you to let it go, Cam," he sighed exhaustively.

"Boss, I was only looking out for you. Don’t you want to know what I found out?"

Taking a deep breath, he stroked his forehead with two fingers, trying to soothe the ache. "Go ahead."

"I found our camera finger. She said she saw you, and couldn’t believe it was real, so she decided to take a couple of pictures as evidence for when she tells her friends. Good news is that she’s not in the press."

Something told him he wasn’t done yet. "And?" He raised a curious brow.

"Bad news is that there were actually press pictures, but I’ve not been able to find anything on that front."

"Let it go. Grant will take over from where you stopped. Right now, I need you to come fetch Marilyn, and take her home. Poor woman is so tired, she’s sleeping at the waiting area," as he spoke, his eyes reflexively went to Marilyn.

He was surprised to see how much sacrifice she was willing to make for a girl she just met. It begged the question if it was just based on loyalty to him, or genuine likeness for Fay.

"Are you leaving too?"

"Not until I’m certain Fay is fine. When everything’s set, I’ll call you. I have a meeting in the next," he lifted up his arm. "In the next one hour, thirty minutes. If it’s still feasible, I’ll let you know. Otherwise, we’d have to postpone."

"Got it!"

He ended the call, and went to sit beside Marilyn. She was one of the few people that had been around for as long as she could remember. A former staff of his parents, she came with him when he decided to move to his own house.

From day one, up until now, her loyalty to him remained unshaken. Once more, she had proved it to him that she’d always be by his side.

As if she could sense his presence, her lashes fluttered, and her eyes flickered open.

"Sir Ace?" She jerked up, and wiped the sleep off her eyes.

"Hey, don’t fret. You’re tired, and need to rest. I’ve called Cam to come get you home," he said.

"No sir! I can’t possibly leave the madam behind. She has to eat, and change into new clothes. Who’s going to do all that for her if I leave?" She shook her head stubbornly.

He chuckled. "You know they have hospital staff for all of that, right? Fay is going to be in good hands. Besides, I’ll be here to make sure she’s okay. But if you’re still not satisfied, you could ask chef Alice to come replace you?"

"Yes!" She quickly responded. "Chef Alice will come, and when I’ve rested a little, I’ll return too." She nodded in agreement.

"Alright then. That’s settled."

"But why are the doctors not out yet?" A curious glint registered in her eyes.

"Doctors? I thought it was just doctor Alexander in there?"

"No. Another lady went in too."

"Was it when I left?"

She bobbed her head in response.

"I’d go check, but you know these people and their protocols."

Braving it out, she reached out a hand, and touched his shoulders. His head whipped towards her, his lashes dropping. "You’ve done really well. I know how much you hate hospitals, but I’m grateful you stuck beside your wife. She’s worth it," she said.

Just then, Cam walked in.

"Hey boss. Hey Marilyn."

He called, and they both turned to him at the same time.

"The car’s ready," he announced.

"I’ll send Alice right away to bring you breakfast. None of that God awful hospital food please." She smiled, and rose to her feet.

"Bye boss," Cam said.

He waved them goodbye, before returning his eyes to the door which covered the room Fay was resting.

"How much longer?" He mumbled.

Suddenly, his phone rang, drawing his attention. He raised it up, and his eyes snapped when he saw the caller ID.

"Bastard!" He cursed, the second he tapped the answer icon.
