Chapter 268: FINAL CONFRONTATION

Chapter 268: FINAL CONFRONTATION

Ace handed over the phone to Landon, who quickly answered.

In less than two minutes, the call was over with.

"Do we have an answer?" Ace asked hastily.

"Not yet. They say to give them more time," Landon replied.

Ace let out the breath he was holding, and reclined into his seat.

"How long are we going to wait?"

"I don’t know, but I sure as hell don’t want to wait around a hospital. Do you?"

"Nah. Maybe we could drive around or something."

And so they did. They drove around the private areas of the City where Landon still had access to, until it was morning.

They managed to find a secure, and isolated field to pack their car and rest.

Whilst resting, they both fell asleep, completely exhausted from the hectic night.

A call came into Landon’s phone hours later, causing Ace to open his eyes.

His hand was going for the phone, when on its screen, he saw, "my love."

It was Leighton calling, which could also mean having to talk to Fay.

He didn’t think he wanted to hear her voice just yet. Fearing that if he did, he wouldn’t be able to stop himself from withdrawing from the mission, and going to her.

"Why aren’t you answering?" Landon opened his eyes, and yawned, when the phone rang again.

He straightened up, and looked around, before bringing his gaze to the phone.

"It’s Leighton," he said, stretching his hand towards the device.

"I don’t think you should answer that," Ace said.

"Why?" Landon asked.

"Fay," he replied, and Landon understood.

"Are you sure though? Don’t you need her?"

"More than anything. Not just now. At least until we know what’s going on," he said.

It was a difficult decision to make, but Landon had set out with a promise to support Ace to the end.

He knew he couldn’t back out now, even if it meant not being able to talk to his woman.

"Alright."

He ignored the call, but shortly after, a text came in.

Their eyes went to the screen at the same time.

"It’s from Leighton," Ace said.

Landon decided to read it out. "Text me if you’re okay. I’m worried about you. Fay wants to speak to Ace. Dream too. Everyone is on edge. Why are you both not home yet?"

Landon smiled right after reading it. He could hear the worry in her voice through the text.

"She’s a solid girl," Ace said, observing his friend.

"I’m crazy about her, bro," he replied.

"I can see."

"But sometimes, I worry she’s not completely over Alexander."

Ace lifted his brow. "Alexander like doctor Alexander?" He asked.

"Yeah, doctor Alexander. She used to be in love with him, remember?" Landon asked, suddenly worried.

"Oh, that’s true," he said, wondering how he could have forgotten that.

Landon wondered the same thing, and got scared.

"Are you okay, bro? You know we can just return to the villa so you can get some proper rest."

"No!" Ace cut him even before he could finish off. "Let’s just get breakfast and continue waiting for the call."

"Are you sure?" Landon asked, even though he was opposed to the decision in his head.

"I am."

He nodded, and started the car. But before he got onto the highway, Ace changed his mind.

They returned to the villa, where they ate, and freshened up.

"Have you seen this?" Landon asked, walking into the living room where Ace was busy compiling his case against Celine.

"What’s that?" He stopped what he was doing to look at what Landon had to show him.

"We did it, bro! Grant did it! The financial situation of the Basses are plastered all over the net for everyone to see," he said, grinning from ear to ear.

Ace bobbed his head proudly. Things were getting even better.

If only he could continue in this spell of good news. Unfortunately, he couldn’t be as excited as he wanted to be.

"That’s good news."

"No, that’s excellent news! One that requires—" Landon froze.

"What is it?" Ace asked.

When Landon didn’t immediately reply, Ace grew worried.

He leaned forward to see what Landon had seen that caused the change in his expression.

As soon as his eyes hit the screen, he tossed his laptop to the side, and jumped to his feet.

"Snap out of it, Lan, and place a call with the address to the officers, Cam, and Cade," he said.

"Okay," Landon muttered, but didn’t make a move.

"Lan, we’re wasting time! Now!"

Landon broke out of the spell, and jumped into action.

In no time, Ace had taken the car, and they had set out.

"So he’s transferring them to the abandoned warehouses at St Lewis street?" He asked as he drove.

"Yes. The map is set. He himself is in a car with his daughter. I think they’re fleeing the country again."

"How is that possible? I thought they were being monitored?" Ace asked in frustration.

"I don’t know yet. But we have to make a choice. Go after him, or them," Landon said, and followed it up with a sign.

Ace suddenly brought the car to an abrupt stop. Thankfully, there were no cars behind them.

"What are you doing, Ace?" Landon screamed in shock.

"Get down, Lan."

"What? Have you lost your mind? I’m not getting down!"

"I’m going after Kings. He’s not going to escape again. I need you to fetch my mother, and Seth."

"The cops, heck even Cam, and Cade are working on that. I’m absolutely going with you!" He argued stubbornly.

"You don’t understand, Lan. I need to do this on my own. I need to face Kings, and end this whole thing once and for all. You’ve done so much for me, and whilst I appreciate your effort, I would hate to see you get hurt during this confrontation."

Landon hissed loudly. "Have you gone insane? You’re in no shape to be going after Kings alone after what happened the last time. The answer is no, Ace. I’m not leaving you alone."

"Well then I could just leave you. I have to do this alone. Why can’t you understand?"

"Well why can’t you understand that if I leave you, and something bad happens to you, I’d be a traitor in everyone’s eyes. In Fay’s eyes. In your daughters eyes! Don’t freaking put me in this position, Ace!" he raised his voice, as he breathed heavily in frustration.

"I have, and as unfortunate as it is, that’s my decision."

"Ace?" Landon called, appealing to his conscience.

"Please Lan. The more time we spend arguing, the more grounds Kings covers."

"You’re right about that. But I still can’t let you go on your own. I’m calling the cops to go after you. That’s the only way I’ll oblige this madness of yours," he persisted stubbornly.

"Fine," Ace gave in. "Call the cops, but you go to my mother, and Seth."

Landon threw him a sympathetic look. Deep down, he understood the need to do this, but he was so scared for him, he didn’t want to leave him alone.

Grabbing the phone, he dialed Cam.

"What are you doing?" Ace asked.

He didn’t reply, but some seconds later, he had told Cam where to come pick him, and ended the call.

"You need the phone for the map," he said, handing it back to Ace.

"Thank you," Ace said sincerely.

"Yeah, anytime."

He couldn’t bear to be in the same car as him anymore.

Opening the door, he walked out, and slammed the door shut.

"Be careful, Ace!" He called out a warning.

"I will," Ace whispered, as he honked.

Ace drove ahead, determination in his eyes.

He didn’t know what to expect, but he had found a way to sneak a gun into the car.

As triggering as it was to constantly be in the face of a gun, he knew he would need it for protection.

Before long, he spotted the car with king’s and his daughter inside of it.

He noticed that the car sped up, and suddenly realized they had also spotted him.

It became a competition, with Ace trying to reach their car, and the King’s driver trying to get out of reach.

That battle continued for some time, until Ace noticed their car suddenly take a turn.

Only after he had followed suit, did he realize the grave mistake he just made.

The Kings car came to a stop, and Kings in the company of Reign, stepped out.

Ace didn’t come out immediately after stopping his car.

He couldn’t physically bring himself to. They had returned to the spot that had taken away six months of his life.

Through the windshield, he looked at the cliff.

He had come so close to dying, and now he was back.

"Why? To finish me off?" A hopeless voice in his head questioned.

"Won’t you come out, Ace boy? Or are you too pussy to do that," Kings taunted.

Ace closed his eyes, as he fought off the image of his near death experience.

"You should have killed me when you had the opportunity, Ace. Now I’m in full support of really killing you this time," Reign said, and pulled out a gun from behind her.

Ace’s heart began to pound sporadically, as he forced his eyes open, and saw the gun. But he knew it was now or never.

He knew if he didn’t end this once and for all, his Dream would never have a normal future, or even childhood.

Mustering every bit of courage he could cling onto, his hand reached for his door.

Just as he was about to step out, Reign fired straight at him.
