Chapter 261: LURKING FEELINGS
Chapter 261: LURKING FEELINGS
Fay grabbed the toy car, and brought it to Ace.
"Please return Dream in the next one hour. She needs to take her bath. After that, you two can play until the sun goes down," she said as she handed the toy to him.
"Alright, will do that," he said.
"And your room. If you want it back, we could just return to ours," she said just before he could turn around, and leave.
"No, that’s okay. I want you two to have it. I’ll just continue sleeping in any of the other numerous rooms in the villa."
"Thank you."
She shut the door in his face, and walked over to her bed.
Eyeing her laptop which was just waiting for her to turn it on so she could work a little, she shook her head, and grabbed her phone instead.
Rising to her feet, and walking over to the window, she dialed her doctor.
"Hello Fay," she heard the calm voice of doctor Vera, and instantly felt at ease.
"I’m sorry for always calling out of the blues, but I need your help," she said.
"I don’t mind when you call me, Fay. Do you want to meet up today?" She asked.
"I can’t do that. I was hoping you’d talk to me on the phone."
"Sure, what is it? Are you okay?"
"I don’t know how I feel. No, I know exactly how I feel, I just don’t know why I feel that way," she ranted.
"Calm down, and tell me exactly what happened."
"Ace, the father of my child is alive," she dropped the bomb like it was nothing.
Not a lot of things were capable of shaking doctor Vera.
She had seen, and heard it all, or so she thought.
Now the dead were coming back to life, and even as the professional, she wasn’t sure what to make of that.
"Hello, are you still there?" Fay called.
"Oh yeah, I am. I was just pulling out my notes. Anyway, why do you think Ace is alive?" She asked.
"Because I’m currently in his villa with Dream. He’s here too. And his friend, and his friend’s girlfriend who is also my best friend. You know Leighton, yeah? The one who recommended you to me. Yeah, that’s her. His driver too. Basically, we’re all here," she said.
"I dropped by the hospital doctor Leighton works at this morning, and saw her. Are you sure you’re okay, Fay?"
"Oh God, you think I’m crazy," Fay’s mouth went agape in shock.
"Oh no. Far from it, Fay. I just know sometimes we see what we want to see. It’s the way the mind is able to cope with extreme pain. It can help for a while, but when we allow ourselves to wallow in prolonged delusion, it could be a problem."
"Doctor Vera, I’m not crazy. This is not something I made up. Sure, Leighton went to work this morning, but she was in the villa just before. If you think I’m making up things, ask her. Just her please. Ace doesn’t want the public knowing he’s alive yet," she said.
"Wait, you’re serious?"
"That’s what I’ve been trying to communicate!" She whined. "He’s alive. Saved by his former personal assistant. The video posted for the world to see was just a clip of the entire thing. He didn’t fall off a cliff. He’s alive," she yapped.
"Wow! I’m so sorry for thinking you were trying to cope with his death by making up things. Seeing that you two are together in a villa, is this a good thing?"
"Well that’s exactly why I called you," she said, and moved over to the bed.
Plopping on it, she began to kick her feet one after the other in distress.
"What is the problem?"
"It’s Ace. He has changed. I don’t know how to explain it without sounding like a complete freak."
"Just tell me how you feel. I promise, it may not be as bad as you think it is."
"Okay," she took a deep breath, and was finally ready to bare her soul. "We always had our problems, but Ace never looked at me with eyes that weren’t filled with desire. I’ve always seen how hungry he was for me. But it’s as if these days all I see is guilt when he looks at me. He doesn’t want to be alone in the same room as me. Heck, he won’t even brush my arms in error!"
"And you want him to do all of these things because you want to do the same to him?"
"Yes— I mean no—- it’s not like that! I just feel like all I wanted was for him to see the error of what he did to me, and apologize. He has done all of that. In fact, he’s so sweet to me now. Making me breakfast in bed. Taking care of Dream so I can work. He’s sweet."
"But?"
"It doesn’t look like he desires me anymore," she replied, and sighed.
She knew she was acting weirdly entitled, but she couldn’t help it.
"Fay, you’ve been through so much. You wanting to cling to the familiar thing you shared with Ace isn’t as ridiculous as you may think it is. And honestly, I don’t think he doesn’t desire you anymore. With all of the trauma you’ve both been through, I’m sure he doesn’t just want to upset you by sexualizing every situation around you. Maybe he’s afraid you wouldn’t want that," she said.
"Yeah, that makes sense. I mean I’m not even sure if I want to reciprocate a sexual advance. I just know it’ll feel good to receive it. I’m going crazy, aren’t I?"
She fell with her back to the bed, and dragged a pillow over her head.
"No you’re not crazy, Fay. You’re human. The man you loved, but thought was dead is in fact alive. It’s normal to want to feel all that you felt before. I tell you what, whenever you’re ready to embrace your emotions again, you’ll know."
"How will I know?" She asked, her voice muffled by the pillow over her head.
She wouldn’t have it any other way though. It was already embarrassing enough that she was discussing something so ridiculously insecure.
"You’ll come to me, and collect the journal. Remember? That journal serves as the one thing that binds you, and his past, with your future. If he’s the one you want, you’d ask for the journal. But in all of this, how does the other guy fit in?"
Fay sighed. "Jason was lovely. He helped me go through those few days of numbness. I just don’t see any long term relationship happening between us. And now he’s in so deep, he wants us to take things more seriously. I’m just making one mistake after another," she sighed again.
"No you’re not. You just expect to be perfect all the time, since that’s what everyone has always expected of you. But you’re human. You’re bound to make mistakes, and selfish decisions. However, you should respectfully tell him on time if you don’t see a future with him. No one likes to be strung along, Fay."
"Wow, you’re so wise. I contacted you for my psychological issues, and now you’re also doubling as a therapist. I couldn’t thank you enough even if I tried," she said sincerely.
"I’ve never seen you this active before. I can’t tell you how happy it makes me. Maybe someday I could meet this Ace Atticus. He does have a special effect on you."
Fay laughed heartily, finally pushing the pillow from her face.
"Thank you so much, doctor Vera."
"Anytime, Fay."
The call ended, and Fay felt much lighter.
She finally knew how to navigate this peculiar situation, but first, she turned to her laptop.
It was time to work.
Night came, and Fay finally came out of the room, after putting Dream to sleep.
She had skipped dinner just because she underestimated how much work she had to do.
When she was done, she knew she wouldn’t be able to sleep if she didn’t find something to eat.
She walked into the kitchen, and much to her surprise, found Ace in it.
"Hey, you’re still up?" She asked, going to the fridge.
"Yeah. I got a call from Landon. He’d be coming in late."
"Leighton too," Fay replied.
"Hungry?" He asked.
"Starving," she said.
"I had this delivered for you," he said, reaching into the microwave, and pulling out a plate.
The aroma hit her nostrils, even before Ace got to her.
"From the finger food restaurant," she guessed with a gasp.
"Always," he replied, laughing.
She grabbed the plate from his hand, and walked over to the counter.
Placing the plate gently on the slab, she turned around, and ran into Ace’s arms.
He froze as he felt her body. The silk nightgown she was wearing wasn’t really as protective as she may have thought it would be.
"Thanks for the food," she said, before pulling away.
Tongue-tied, he watched her return to the counter, and dug into the food.
