THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY -
Chapter 233: A KIND OF REUNION
Chapter 233: A KIND OF REUNION
The car stopped in front of the Atticus mansion, and Alexander turned to Fay.
"How did you know I was coming here?" She asked, turning to him at the same time.
"You mentioned the Atticus mansion earlier, so I just figured," he replied.
"Oh. Anyway, thanks for driving me here. I guess I’ll just call the gate guy to open the gate."
Alexander held her hand, before she could make a move to open the door.
"Let me see that," he said, as she relaxed into her seat again.
She took a deep breath, before stretching out her hand to him.
"Your skin is so sensitive. You’d need ice on it, and an ointment. It should take off any pressure. Does it still hurt?
She shook her head, but kept her gaze on him.
"Alright then," he let go, but kept his gaze on her. "And thank you too."
"For what?" Her eyes squinted.
"For letting me kiss you."
"Alex—"
"I’ve been curious about what it would feel like to kiss you, since that night I first saw you at the finger food restaurant," he paused, and smiled. "Thank you for quenching my burning curiosity. It was even more enthralling than I had imagined," he said.
"I don’t know what to say," she replied when he was done.
"You don’t have to say anything, Fay. Your heart belongs to another man. I already accepted that fact. You’re always going to be special to me, but I’ve made peace with your feelings a very long time ago."
"Alexander," she started with an intention to correct a notion. "It’s true that I had feelings for Ace. I was in love with him. Maybe I still am. But we could never be together, because I can’t see past how much he hurt me in the past. And yes I felt something when you kissed me. It wasn’t love for sure, but it was immense gratitude. So once again, thank you," she said earnestly.
"Does this mean I’m not weird anymore?" He lifted a fine brow, and she chuckled.
"Errmm, we’ll see about that," she smiled genuinely, as he lifted her hand, and brought it to his lips.
"Ace will be a fool if he doesn’t scorch the earth just to prove you belong to him, and he to you," he said, before kissing her hand.
"Now you’re rooting for Ace?" She laughed in awe.
"No, I’m rooting for your true happiness, and I know where it lies."
Fay’s eyes remained on him as she queried her heart.
She could have been happy with someone like Alexander who wore his heart on his sleeve.
Everything he said was with intention and kindness.
He was so different from Ace who was more fire to her ice.
Yet, here she was comparing the two men. It didn’t make sense to her. It didn’t make sense that her heart craved who it did, despite the pain she had gone through in their hands.
"Don’t stress your pretty head," Alexander whispered. "You’ll figure it out with time. Wait here, I’ll go get the gate guy to open the gate."
He stepped out before she could respond, and hurried to the gate.
Mere seconds later, he returned, and handed the car keys to Fay.
"How do you plan on returning home?" She asked on her way to the driver’s seat."
"I’m not a child, Fay," he laughed, as he saw her into the car again.
He crouched, and placed a friendly kiss on her cheeks.
"Goodbye, Fay," he said.
"Will I see you tomorrow?" She asked as he straightened.
"I’ll do my best."
He waved, and didn’t stop until she had driven into the compound.
Fay sighed after parking the car. Her eyes went to her wrist, and she discovered they had gotten a little inflamed.
The last few hours had been a rollercoaster of events.
Xylon had shown his true colors, and Alexander had swooped in as her knight in shining armor.
"You’re stronger than everything, Fay," she whispered to herself in encouragement, as she stepped out of the car.
She had not noticed Celine Atticus’ car stop just beside hers, until the new president of Spades, stepped out of the car, and walked up to her.
"I thought you’d never get out of the car," she said after Fay sighed on seeing her.
"I didn’t know you were spying on me," Fay replied.
"Not really. I just wanted to tell you I saw the hot doctor give you a goodbye kiss. Are you two an item now? God knows the poor boy waited a long time for this," she said in a sinister, and amused voice.
"I’m glad you’re having fun in life. President of Spades, spy adult, insufferable wench. But you picked the wrong day to entertain me, because I’m not entertained. Definitely not by your foolishness."
She hastened her steps so she went ahead of Celine into the house.
There was a staff there to welcome her, as she walked in.
"I want to speak to the matriarch," Fay requested.
She was still talking to the staff, when Gabrielle came down the stairs.
"You’re here, Fay!" She screamed in excitement.
"And you’re in your early fifties, still acting like a child," Celine said, entering into the room.
Pretending not to hear, or even see her, Gabrielle walked up to Fay.
"Can I get a hug?" She asked.
Fay’s first instinct was to recoil, to protect herself.
But she remembered Gabrielle wasn’t the enemy, and she did need that hug.
She nodded, and Gabrielle pulled her in for a hug.
Right after they separated, she placed her hand behind her back, and began leading her towards the matriarch’s home office.
"Hey, don’t I deserve to know why there’s someone in our house?" Celine called after them, feeling slighted and ignored.
"Ignore her. Everyone does, and it makes her go crazy," Gabrielle whispered conspiratorially.
They laughed, making Celine more riled up.
"Fools!" She screamed after them, as she stormed towards her room.
They entered the matriarch’s office, and found her working on her system.
She lifted her head on sensing Fay’s presence, and smiled.
"You came," she said.
"I did," Fay replied.
The matriarch’s eyes scanned her, and slowly, the smile on her face began to fade.
"What happened to you?" She asked.
"Nothing," Fay lied as she took a seat.
"Are you sure? You look shaken," she said.
"Is it because of Celine? Pay her no mind," Gabrielle said, handing her a bottle of water she had taken from the fridge.
"No, I’m really fine. Just a little tired I guess."
She accepted the water, and mumbled her gratitude.
The liquid cooled her tongue, and her throat. And in a way, even lifted her spirits.
"Shall we begin?" She asked.
It was late when the preparations were settled.
Fay yawned, as she made her way out of the matriarch’s home office.
She had rejected Gabrielle’s offer to escort her out, because she realized the two women still had some pending discussions.
She had made it into the living room, when someone hugged her from behind.
Managing to turn around, she smiled when she saw Sophie.
"What’s happening tomorrow, Fay?" Sophie asked immediately.
"You don’t know yet?" She asked, crouching to level with Sophie.
"Nope." Sophie shook her head.
"Well, I guess you’ll just have to wait and see, right?" She said, poking her nose.
"Fay?" She heard two familiar voices call her name at the same time, and slowly straightened to her full height.
Her heart skipped a beat when she saw the two women who had loved, and protected her unconditionally.
"It’s really you!" Marilyn said, and dashed towards her.
Alice was not far behind. They both pulled Fay in for a hug, and she surrendered herself to them.
They hugged her tightly, and Marilyn even burst into tears.
"You’re really here. It’s really you," she whispered continuously.
When they eventually pulled away, Fay felt like breaking down.
It had been that kind of day, but like the staple it was becoming, she couldn’t find the tears.
"You have to sit, Fay. You can’t just leave right now," Alice said, leading her to a chair.
She allowed the women to do whatever they pleaded. After all, they were a huge reason she survived her first time in the Atticus’ life.
Sophie excused them, and both Marilyn, and Alice sat beside Fay.
"You grew so much. Even more beautiful. Look at your hair," Marilyn said, stroking her hair.
Fay laughed, and it came from the depths of her heart.
"How come you two are here?" She asked.
"Ma’am Gabrielle asked us to come around for a special occasion tomorrow. Does that have something to do with you, Fay?" Alice asked.
Fay tried her hardest, but these were her friends. She couldn’t hide anything from them.
They were still so special to her heart, and they forever will.
"Yes it does," she replied with a huge smile on her face.
"Really? What’s the celebration for?" Marilyn asked.
"My daughter. It’s mine and Ace’s daughter’s Fourth birthday," she divulged.
In sync, Marilyn and Alice screamed so loud, the twins, and Sophie dashed into the living room.
