Chapter 232: FRIENDLY BEAST

Chapter 232: FRIENDLY BEAST

Fay followed behind Xylon into a secluded section of the restaurant, and they sat down.

She didn’t see Alexander walk into the restaurant too, and asked for the closest table to their section.

She was too busy mean mugging Xylon to notice any other thing.

The umbrella she had left in the custody of one of the door openers, because apparently, she couldn’t bring it in with her.

She wouldn’t have minded holding that umbrella in the room, as it reminded her of the kindness she wasn’t willing to give Xylon.

"Will you stop glaring at me now?" He asked, lowering the menu book he was going through.

"Considering how much of a liar, and pretender you are? No. I don’t think I can stop glaring at you," she replied earnestly.

"How did I pretend, or lie?" He asked.

She huffed. "I can’t believe that’s a genuine question. You knew there was a deal that legally tied me to doing your bidding, hanging in the air, and never thought to mention it to me. You sat in my face thrice, and pretended to be my friend, whilst gearing to use that deal against me. Do you know what people like you are Called?"

He shook his head vigorously. "I’d rather not know."

"I’ll tell you anyway. Hypocrites. You’re the biggest hypocrite there is. And worse off, you irritate me," she said, sounding every word with anger, and disgust.

He was taken aback by her sudden revulsion towards him.

This side of her he had only seen directed towards other people. Never towards him.

"I just wanted a reason to see you, Fay. I’d never dangle a contract over your head," he explained.

The way she rolled her eyes, made him aware she wasn’t buying the excuse he was selling.

"If that was the case, you would have called genuinely. You’d have asked for us to meet up, and when I tell you I’m busy, you would have asked for my free time. But no. I know men like you," she broke down bitterly.

He sighed, at a loss of words. She had concluded about him, and there was no amount of sweetness that would change her mind.

At least, not at the moment. He decided that if she felt that way, then he might as well live up to the villain she suddenly envisioned him.

"Fine," he shrugged nonchalantly. "Believe the worst of me. All I know is that I want that contract. And in that contract, we have to meet up at least three times a week for the next three months," he said.

Her mouth dropped open in shock. She thought she could shame him into reconsidering his stance. That perhaps, he wasn’t as she suddenly perceived him.

However, he had made it abundantly clear he didn’t give a toss about her emotions, and so, she decided to play accordingly.

"What even is this contract about? And why is Luxe legally bound to it?" She asked.

"I thought you called because you had seen the details of the contract?" He lifted a brow.

She cringed at that word, and it’s repetition throughout the conversation.

Last time she had been blindsided into a contract, it was her marriage with Ace.

It wasn’t fair to refer to it with a word like blindsided, but in hindsight, she had to have been crazy to accept that deal.

"Desperate and greedy too," a voice in her head said.

"Not now," her inner monologue cautioned.

"I didn’t, now what?"

"So why’d you change your mind? Did you just secretly want to see me?" His lips spread into a self indulgent smirk.

She rolled her eyes in response, and pursed her lips.

Her throat was starting to dry out, and he hadn’t even shown the decency of ordering something as little as water yet.

The thought crossed her mind, and she swiftly damned waiting for him.

She lifted her hands, and he lifted his brows in curiosity.

When a waiter arrived, his face reddened with embarrassment.

He had been so caught up with the back and forth, he had forgotten to order.

"Can I get water please?" She asked.

"Right up ma’am. Anything else?" He asked.

"No, that would be all, thank you."

The waiter turned to Xylon, who began to order. When he was done, he asked the order to be replicated into two places.

Fay waited for the waiter to leave, before she faced Xylon.

"Why are you ordering on my behalf?" She asked, eying him bitterly .

"You have to do everything I ask."

"I don’t think that fool was stupid enough to sign a contract like that," she said.

"Oh he wasn’t stupid, just greedy. And his greed unfortunately has tied you to me. Since you’re so curious, I’ll tell you."

"Please do."

Her voice was confident, but deep down, her stomach tightened from anticipation.

"The money he was syphoning offshore had almost gotten him into trouble. All of his assets were frozen at some point. He had to wiggle through without the awareness of the press. That’s when I stepped in. He came to me, and we signed a deal. I’d help him find his way out of the mess, and in return, Luxe would answer my request when I come to collect. It doesn’t matter who the president is, since the deal was signed using the company’s seal." He smiled proudly.

She was so disgusted, she couldn’t say a word for a few seconds after he was done talking.

She didn’t know who she wanted to kill the most.

The bastard for almost collapsing Luxe, and then shamelessly throwing the company into a deal that requires it to withdraw its autonomy for one man whenever he pleased, or Xylon for being that man.

"You hate me."

"That’s an understatement, trust me."

The waiter returned with the water, and dropped it on the table.

She thanked him, as he turned around, and left.

"Why don’t you want us to work together? We’re friends, Fay," he said, as she drank.

She closed her ears to his words, because she knew there was a real possibility of choking on the water if she listened to him.

In one go, she drank half the water away. Satisfied, she gave him her attention again.

"Here’s what’s going to happen. I’ve spent enough time listening to you, and I get it. So what I want you to do is draft a proposal. Tell me what you want, and how I come into what you want. For now, I have somewhere more important to be."

She rose to her feet, not giving him a chance to pull one more word out of his mouth.

He knew he’d just embarrass them both, and risk the press in their business if he tried to stop her, so he waited a little, before following her.

Fay grabbed the umbrella by the door, and had made it to her car, when she felt a strong hand grab hers.

She turned around, and saw it was Xylon Bass.

"What do you think you’re doing?" She asked, trying to wriggle her hand away from his hold.

"You’re being difficult, Fay, and I don’t like that. Why would you just walk out on me?" He asked in a voice that sent chills down her spine.

She couldn’t recognize him in this state. He was like a monster with entitlement.

Not even Gabriel had scared her the way he did, and Gabriel had actually had her kidnapped.

"Let go!" She warned.

"Or what? You spoiled little brat!"

He pushed her against the car, and squeezed her hand until she hissed in pain.

"I’ve been patient, and kind, waiting in silence for the past four years. This is how you repay me? This is how you–"

The remainder of his words were buried in his heart, as a force pulled him from behind.

As he turned, Alexander slammed a punch on his face.

It split his forehead, and blood began to gush out of it.

"You bastard! How dare you lay a hand on her?!" Alexander screamed, punching him again.

The second punch sent him flying to the ground.

He was going for a third, when the security guys ran to him, and held him back.

"Oh now you want him to stop?!" Fay screamed, on getting her voice back. "But you did nothing when he was hurting me!"

Alexander shrugged them off, and walked to Fay.

"Forget them. Let’s go." He opened her car door, and led her to the passenger seat.

Entering into the driver’s seat, he requested the car keys, and with shaky hands, she gave it to him.

He drove roughly out of the restaurant, and had gone quite a distance before he turned to her.

"Does it hurt?" He asked.

"It does. But you hit him harder. The satisfaction from that is better than the pain," she said.

"Good," he nodded.

"Thank you," she replied.

"Don’t do that. He deserves worse. I wish I had the power to ruin his life."

"I can," she said. "I have that power."

"Then do it," he bobbed his head supportively. "Ruin that bastard’s life."

He slowed the car to a stop, as their eyes locked.

"No, don’t hurt yourself," she whispered.

"Just once. Please," he begged breathlessly, as their lips touched.
