Chapter 228: FATHER AND DAUGHTER

Defeated, Fay waited until Dream had gotten her fill of her father.

It seemed like it was going to be a long wait, because the little girl wouldn’t stop yapping about her entire day.

Finally, she paused long enough to spare a glance her mother’s way.

"Mummy, did you do what you said you’d do?" She asked.

Fay, only glad to have her presence finally recognized, smiled.

"I did. But I guess talking to your father is more important," she added, feigning hurt.

Ace chuckled at her attempt to make them look bad.

"Go to mummy," he whispered to Dream, then stretched her towards Fay.

Fay accepted Dream into her arm, and the sparkle in her eyes returned.

"I missed you," she said, placing a kiss on her forehead.

"You look so pretty, mummy," Dream said.

"I do?"

"Yes, mummy."

"Well, you’re my daughter, so that makes you pretty too." She pinched her nose, and her cheeks, causing Dream to giggle.

"I think you’ve all stood outside long enough. Come in, and say hello to me, Ace," Seth called from the front door.

Fay was about to walk towards him, when she remembered she still had her purse, and the box in the car.

She turned around, and almost bumped into Ace, who had taken a step forward.

Awkwardly, she bit her lips, avoiding his gaze.

"Do you want me to take her in?" He asked, sensing she had that request in her mind.

She didn’t answer, but returned Dream to him, anyway.

As they walked past her, she opened the backdoor, and grabbed her purse, the box, and the wrapped gift for Dream.

She walked into the house to see everyone seated.

Dream was on her father’s laps, whilst he discussed with Seth.

She walked up to Ace, and handed the wrapped gift to him.

"What’s that mummy?" Dream asked.

"I think that’s for your father to answer."

She turned to Seth, and placed a kiss on her cheeks.

"I have an email to respond to. I’d quickly do that, and return when I’m done," she said.

He nodded, and smiled at her as she walked up the stairs.

Ace’s eyes followed her until she disappeared up the stairs.

Her scent still lingered in his nose. He was almost tempted not to take off his clothes when he eventually returned home, just so he could bask in her scent for a little while.

Seth noticed how distracted Ace was, and smiled inwardly.

He couldn’t wait for them to get over the problems between them, so Dream could have a stable, two parent home.

In her room, Fay dropped to the bed, and sighed.

She began to take off her shoes, massaging her ankles as she did.

It had been such a weird, yet revealing day. She had her plans already being laid out in her head.

She knew what she had to do, and how to go about everything she had to do.

However, she still had a lot of reservations, which on introspection, she realized was just residual fear from the woman she used to be.

Straightening to her full height as she rose from the bed, she walked to the mirror and stared at her reflection.

Just like she used to do before, she began reaffirming her inner self.

"You’re going to achieve everything you set out to do, Fay. You didn’t come this far to fail," she muttered.

Her phone buzzed, signaling her attention. Turning around, she returned to the bed, and grabbed the device.

She sought after her Laptop immediately, and on finding it, went to her emails.

The next half hour was spent in solving the problems presented to her.

She was so immersed in what she was doing, her heart leaped when her table clock chimed, and she was thrust back to earth.

Her eyes shot to the time device, and it showed the number of minutes she had worked for.

Grateful to finally be done, she cleared the bed, and returned everything back to its proper position.

She placed a call to her personal assistant next.

"Have you seen the documents I just worked on? Replace them with what we currently have stored in our database. When you’re done with that, send me the details of the company Ace Atticus worked with."

"What company, ma’am?" She asked.

"The one he’s in trouble over. I want every detail there is to them. I also want specific details on Celine Atticus. All of these should be on my desk first thing Monday morning. Enjoy your weekend."

"But ma’am, it’s just Thursday."

"Yeah, my weekend starts now."

She ended the call, and tossed the phone on her bed.

Sliding her feet into her room slides, she began to shed her clothes.

Naked, she tossed the dirty clothes into the laundry basket, then began packing her hair into a bun.

Fay walked into the bathroom when she was done, and took a quick shower.

In ten minutes, she had changed into a comfortable gown, and pulled her hair into a ponytail..

She grabbed Ace’s car key, and walked out of the room..

As she drew closer to the living room, she wondered why it was suddenly quiet.

Her curiosity was satisfied, when she walked in, and found Dream, and Ace playing with the car he got her.

She stood just by the door, making sure she wasn’t fully visible so she could watch them for a few seconds.

Dream seemed to be having the time of her life.

She laughed with so much joy, and euphoria.

Fay’s eyes widened in amazement. She didn’t think it was possible for a child to be more joyful than she usually was. But she had been proven wrong.

Her eyes went to Ace. He laid on the ground, whilst Dream used his body as a road.

This side of him made her tummy flutter. She began to feel those butterflies she thought she had forgotten.

He looked so carefree, and fulfilled. It wasn’t the face of a man that just lost his company.

It was like that entire situation faded in the presence of Dream.

She was so content watching them, she didn’t see Seth creep up on her.

"They’ve hit it off so well, you must admit," he said, and she shuddered from the shock of his presence.

Her head whipped behind her to see him smiling.

"You scared me," she said.

"I’m sorry. Watching them just does something to soothe my soul. You can see how much she resembles him when they’re together. It’s a miracle, Fay."

She sighed in resignation. "I know," she muttered, as her eyes returned to the duo.

"So how about you let Dream’s birthday be held at the Atticus mansion, so the entire family can finally get to meet Dream."

"Yeah, whatever."

"Really?!"

Her brain instantly rebooted, and she turned to him with bulged eyes.

"Wait, what?!"

She had been so engrossed in their play, she didn’t hear him clearly.

"Wait, you didn’t hear my question, did you?"

"I thought I did, but thinking about it now—" she gasped. "No way." She shook her head.

"Common Fay. The girl has a right to be surrounded by love on her fourth birthday. You know the Atticus would welcome her with open arms."

"No, grandpa. Absolutely not! Celine threatened me, using my daughter. I can’t give her the privilege of being around my daughter on her special day. I just can’t," she insisted vehemently.

"Okay fine, just think about it. We still have a whole day before her birthday. Give it a thought, would you?" He stroked her cheeks, lovingly.

"Common, grandpa. I’ve already had to compromise on a lot of things. I don’t like to feel like I’m sharing Dream. I just want to be selfish with her," she whined.

"I understand. But promise me you’d give it a thought?" He adorned an adorable face, and she couldn’t help but release the breath she was holding.

"Fine, I will. But the novelty is off now. Ace has to go home."

Seth chuckled, as he watched her walk fully into the living room.

He was proud of her growth so far. The resentment that filled her up before, was slowly dissolving.

He was proud to witness all of that, and whatever was to come.

"Alright, troopers, it’s time to wrap it up. You need to eat, young lady, and your father has to go home," she called, bursting their bubbles.

"No!" Dream disagreed firmly.

Fay’s eyes went to Ace, and she caught him staring strangely.

He had lost his ability to breathe the second she walked in.

She looked so homely in her short dress. As if she was welcoming him home.

"Ace, tell your daughter you need to leave?" She snapped a finger across his face.

He blinked, and cleared his throat. Gently, he straightened into a sitting position, facing Dream.

"Hey pumpkin, I really do have to go now. But it was fun right?"

"Yes daddy," Dream replied solemnly.

"Hey, baby, don’t be sad. I’ll see you on Saturday, right? I’d even have more gifts for you, okay?"

"Okay."

They hugged tightly, and when he finally released her, she went to Fay.

"Hey sweetie, go to your nanny. She’ll prepare you for dinner. Someone special got you a gift," she said.

"Another gift?" Her doe eyes widened.

"Yes baby. So go in fast."

"Okay mummy. Bye daddy!" She screamed, as she scurried out of the room.
