THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY -
Chapter 227: WITHDRAWAL
Chapter 227: WITHDRAWAL
The familiar tingles of excitement she got from his kisses began, making her attempts to steel herself from him useless.
"Ace, your sisters want to know—" Gabrielle paused on her tracks, and gasped.
Ace shoved Fay aside, as they both struggled to catch their breaths in the face of being caught.
Fay turned around first. With her head looking everywhere else but forward, she grabbed the box in Gabrielle’s hand, muttered her gratitude, and practically fled.
"What are you doing?" Gabrielle directed at Ace, right after she got over her shock.
"Mum, let’s not make this more embarrassing than it already is."
"Oh we are. You can’t kiss Fay like that, when you’ve not apologized for hurting her. I didn’t raise this crass man."
She huffed at him, turned around, and walked away.
"But she reciprocated," he said in his defense, but she had already left, and there was no one around to hear him.
He sighed, and picked up on his heels. On entering the living room, he found the twins gathered around someone.
The further he walked, the clearer the person became.
They were using Landon’s face to practice their makeup skills.
Boy, was he glad he didn’t have to go through that.
Sneaking out before they could figure out his presence, he made it to Fay’s car just in time.
She hissed when he opened the door, and slid into the back seat next to her.
"I thought you had changed your mind. No, I hoped you did," she said in an unfriendly voice.
She confused him to no end. When they kissed, he could tell she wanted to hold back, but couldn’t.
It heightened his ego a little, if he was being honest.
To know she couldn’t resist their attraction was definitely a boost to his self-confidence.
But it was the after effect that left him wondering, time, and time again.
She would act coldly towards him, just the way she was doing now.
"Don’t worry, I’ll just get my car, and leave," he said, returning her energy.
She rolled her eyes, as Cade started the car, no questions asked.
They were both engrossed in their thoughts as they battled the heat thrust on them, by virtue of their proximity to each other.
Fay wished the day would be over already. Twice he has kissed her, and twice she hadn’t found the energy to push him away.
She was always going to be attracted to him, she thought bitterly.
It was an awareness that gave her as much worry, as it gave her peace.
"I’d like to get something for Dream," Ace suddenly said.
She heard him clearly, but she decided to pretend not to have heard anything.
She hated how easily she was giving into him. She had to remind herself who she was, starting right now.
"Hey, I’m talking to you, Fay. I said I want to get a gift for, Dream."
She still didn’t answer, instead, she brought her face to the window.
It didn’t matter that it was tinted, and she couldn’t even see a thing outside.
Anything that distracted her from Ace, was very much welcomed.
Ace sighed defeatedly. She was being difficult again.
He wished he could shut her off, but it was impossible.
Asides her scent that was even stronger, seated next to her, she was the staircase he needed to go through to connect with his daughter.
"Cade?" He called when an idea suddenly stuck in his head.
Surprised that the Atticus boss knew his name, he answered immediately.
"Yes, sir Ace?"
"Could you please stop by a toy store?"
"Have you gone insane?" Fay suddenly asked, turning to him.
"Oh, you finally decided to talk to me?" he retorted.
Cade held his breath. He had served the country in more ways than one. He had also served as a bodyguard in many areas, and for many high profiles.
Somehow, the most difficult, and awkward situation he ever had to endure was listening to couples bicker.
In this case, it was two strong-willed people.
He wished he could disappear until they were done. Unfortunately, he had to keep driving.
"Maybe my silence should have told you I don’t accept you buying gifts for Dream. Her birthday is in two days. You can buy her a gift then. Besides, just because they were able to clear the press off the mansions Street, doesn’t mean they’re not still lurking. The second you go into a store, and someone recognizes you, you’d be surrounded."
"So you care about me, and my safety?" He teased.
She glared at him with both annoyance, and frustration.
"No I don’t. If they gather around you, how long until they notice my presence? I don’t want them questioning why we’re together. Whatever would lead to the press knowing about my daughter, I’d love to stay away from it, thank you," she explained.
"She’s my daughter too, Fay. Don’t I have a say?" He asked in a calmer voice.
"No you don’t. Not on this at least. You can’t risk being seen. I can’t risk being seen around you."
"Okay, let Cade do it. It’s not even something big. I just remembered how much I used to love when my dad engaged me in his passions. We shared a deep love for cars. I want Dream to share that same passion with me."
"So you want to get her a car?" She scoffed.
"No, Fay. At least not the big type yet. Just this tiny toy design I can swear with my life she’ll love."
"You don’t know my daughter. You don’t know what she’ll love. Stop trying so hard, Ace," she said dismissively.
"I’m sorry, but I can’t. I simply can’t stop trying when it comes to my daughter. So you either allow Cade to get the toy, or I’ll go myself," he threatened with an ultimatum.
Fay closed her eyes tight, holding herself from blowing up.
She couldn’t understand the kind of audacity he had to feel so entitled to a child he had no hand in raising to this age.
"I’m not trying to start a fight, Fay. I know you have every right to decide what you want for Dream or not, but she’s my daughter too. Just give me this one thing," he pleaded more soothingly when he sensed she was about to lose it with him.
She released the breath she was holding, and unclenched her fist.
Swallowing the vile retort she had lined up, she nodded in understanding.
"When you get to a toy store Cade, go in, and get the toy he wants," she ordered.
"Yes ma’am," Cade replied, amazed that she had given in to his demands.
There was love between them, he thought. They were just so blinded by life’s problems to embrace it.
"Thank you, Fay. I’ll forever remain grateful for this."
She didn’t respond to him, instead, she threw her face back to the window.
The feeling that crept up on her was one she hated the most. It was helplessness.
Her daughter clearly loved her father. Her father wanted nothing more than to be in his daughter’s life.
As much as she wanted to put a pause to their budding bond, she couldn’t, and it made her feel helpless.
The car came to a stop, but she didn’t budge even as she heard Ace describe the kind of toy he was talking about to Cade.
She heard the sound of the car opening, and closing, which informed her he had left.
"Fay?" She heard Ace call, but she didn’t respond.
She felt his hand on her arms, and gently shrugged it away.
"I don’t know what I’m apologizing for, Fay, but I’m sorry. I really am sorry."
That was the problem, she thought. He didn’t know what he was apologizing for.
He couldn’t see that she just wanted him to admit he had messed up, and apologize profusely for it.
Until then, she hoped she could learn to fight him off, and these feelings she was developing afresh.
The car started to move again, when Cade returned faster than she had expected.
"You got the exact type I wanted, Cade. Thanks, man!" Ace patted him on the shoulders, from behind.
His eyes went to Fay, as he studied her shoulders.
They were stiff, and unapproachable. He could tell he had upset her by insisting on the gift.
She had only accepted because she couldn’t deny their daughter the happiness of receiving gifts from her father.
He was fully aware of this, but couldn’t help his selfishness.
Because he didn’t just want to give Dream gifts, and get closer to her. He also wanted to kiss her mother.
The addictiveness of her lips had returned, and it had him fighting for his life.
Cade honked in front of the Luxe mansion, and the gate was opened almost instantly.
He drove into the compound, and stopped the car.
Immediately, Fay alighted, forgetting to grab her purse, and the box from Gabrielle.
She just wanted to go far away from Ace.
"Mummy!" Dream, who was with her grandfather, dashed towards her, on seeing her come out of the car.
She squatted immediately, and her hands opened in readiness to embrace her baby, when Dream suddenly changed direction.
Confused, she turned to see Dream jump into her father’s arms.
"Daddy?!" She screamed in excitement.
Fay sighed in defeat. For the third time that day, she lost to Ace Atticus.
