THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY
Chapter 191: MADAM PRESIDENT

Chapter 191: MADAM PRESIDENT

David Duke, the governor of the state rose from his seat, a smile gracing his handsome face.

He was about to speak when the door opened, and Reign King walked into the meeting room.

Fay waited patiently for the bald man that had reprimanded her for coming late to speak, but when she didn’t hear anything from him, she scoffed inwardly.

She could already tell what this was. Lines had been drawn, and alliances chosen.

Nevertheless, she wasn’t going to let their nonsense get to her. She would be a one man army if that was what was required of her.

"Sorry I’m only just arriving, governor. Everyone," she turned around. "There was traffic."

"That’s okay, Reign. Please take your seat."

Fay’s eyes followed her, as the bald man got up from his seating position beside Ace, to make way for her to go through.

Ace looked towards her direction at the same time. Their eyes met, yet she kept a composed expression.

She knew he was in the room already. In fact, she had seen him through the corner of her eyes the second she stepped in.

He was from an elite family, so it was a given he would be there.

Away from him, she was curious about the man who was sucking up to Reign.

She would love nothing more than to know the family which had churned out such colossal disgrace.

"Good afternoon everyone," David cleared his throat, and began. "I want to specially thank you all for clearing out your schedules to attend to my call. It means the world to me."

Fay’s eyes returned to the governor. She didn’t know why he seemed so familiar. The woman beside him couldn’t stop smiling at him.

Her eyes went to the tag on her table, and that was when she noticed there was a name, and position tag on everyone’s table.

She swiftly sought the tag of the bald guy. "Leon Thornton. Director of FoodFresh."

Her head almost began to shake in pity. No wonder he was sucking up to Reign. Last she checked, their business wasn’t making as much profit as it used to, now that they were other competitors in the market.

They were even looking for investors, and collaborators.

For a second there, she contemplated buying a large portion of the company, and showing them how to run a successful business.

"Mrs Fay?" The woman beside her touched her hand, and she blinked.

"Sorry," she said, noticing everyone’s eyes on her.

She had been so lost in her head, she didn’t know she was being spotlighted.

"I’m glad you’re here, because my team chose your company to represent this project," the governor continued.

Fay nodded. "I’m aware of this development. I want to thank you for believing in Luxe and its capabilities."

Reign suddenly snickered, drawing everyone’s attention.

"Do you have something to say, Ms Kings?" The governor asked.

"I do. I want to know why Luxe has been chosen to handle the project. The former president that knew about this project, has been replaced. Do you think it’s new president will be able to do a good job?"

"Why are you talking as if the new president you speak of isn’t present in the room?" Xylon Bass intruded.

"When it’s time to talk about parties and women, Xylon, I’ll refer back to you. For now, you should mind your business," she responded harshly to him.

He scoffed. "You’d know a thing about parties. Isn’t your father being investigated for throwing ones that involve sex trafficking?"

"Excuse me!" She banged a fist on the table, and jumped to her feet.

Fay smiled inwardly. She was glad she didn’t have to waste her energy on Reign.

She didn’t give a toss about her, and until she faced her directly, she would continuously be classified as a coward.

"Seat down!" Ace yanked her down to her seat.

"You should be protecting me." She lowered her voice.

"You started it. You better behave, Reign," he warned, looking up. "I’m sorry about that. Could we proceed please?"

The governor smiled. "Thank you Ace. As I was saying, Luxe has been chosen to head this project. In the spirit of transparency, I’ll tell you why."

"Please do," Leone said. "I’d like to know what’s so great about the Luxes."

"They’ve managed to dominate every industry they’ve touched. Their profit has also surged due to the presence of the heiress. Now that they have the spotlight, it’s best they head this project."

"So you’re choosing them because they earn well? She didn’t even play any part in the company’s earnings," Ace spoke up, and everyone turned to him.

Everyone except Fay, who had her hands folded in a fist beneath the table.

"I’m sorry, Ace. Could you elaborate?"

"Shouldn’t the company heading the project be picked based on competency? How do you judge someone that has only been the president of her company for a week?"

"Like I said, Ace, the proof is in the numbers. In just a week of being president, the Luxes’ worth doubled. I heard this happened because she was able to spot the leeches in the company, and got rid of them. That tells you they were capable of being greater, regardless of how great they already were. We need a character like that overseeing this project. Someone whose values are not compromised," the governor strongly argued in favour of her.

"Are you trying to say the rest of us are compromised? Remember Mr governor, we’re doing this for you, not the other way around. You have to show us some respect!"

"Enough Reign!" Landon stepped in. "An explanation was asked for, and it was given. If you’re not satisfied with the governor’s response, you can exit the project. It’s not a do or die affair."

"You’re the one to talk. In what ground are you standing on today? An employee at Spades, or heir of Sting?"

"That’s enough please," the woman beside the governor said. "We’re just going to keep arguing back and forth if we continue on this path. Every decision made by the governor was carefully planned, and thought of. It’s very okay to disagree with him, but to act in this outlandish manner is beneath you all."

"No one asked for the opinion of a side chick please. If the Celine Atticus was here, you wouldn’t be bold enough to open your mouth," Reign clapped back, rolling her eyes as she did.

"Reign!"

The disapproving sentiments from everyone, echoed round the hall.

Fay wished she was shocked at the gross display of evilness from Reign. It was in her blood, so it was very much expected. At least she had an answer to why the man seemed familiar. He was the husband of Celine Atticus.

"What? I thought we like speaking the truth?"

"Thank you, Reign. Can we continue now?" The woman said after getting over her embarrassment.

"No we can’t. Not until she apologises to you," the governor suddenly said.

"What?" Reign scoffed.

"You heard me, Reign King. I have asked for everyone’s favour to see this project to the end, but I won’t let you insult the woman I love in my presence. Apologise, or leave!"

"You heard him, Reign. Apologise to her," Ace said under his breath.

"No. Hell no! I’ll rather burn in hell than apologise for speaking the truth. And you know what? To hell with this project!"

She rose to her feet, and stormed towards the door.

"Leon?!" She called behind her.

He jumped up too, and grabbed all of his belongings. "Excuse me," he said, as he hurried after her.

Before she left, her raging eyes went to Fay.

Fay welcomed her glare with an expression of indifference. She wanted her to see how insignificant she was to her.

Reign sensed it, and it boiled her blood even more.

"Bloody fools!" She cursed, as she walked away.

"Can we continue now? Or are there any other objections?" The governor asked.

He looked around, then nodded. "Darling, proceed with the next agenda."

He took his seat, and his woman rose to her feet. Fay couldn’t help but be impressed by their dynamic.

She observed how he passionately defended her. They were so in-love, even though she didn’t believe in love anymore.

"The next agenda is to decide who is going to be in charge of the financial aspect of this project. It came down to The Bass company, and Spades in the last meeting. Unfortunately, we didn’t have a representative of Luxe holdings in that meeting, hence, a decision wasn’t reached. Since we have the president here, she has to sever the tie by voting for one company. Who will it be, ma’am?"

Fay became the centre of attention again, as all eyes rested on her.

She could feel the intense gaze of Ace. He was willing her to look at him. She didn’t want to, and she wasn’t going to.

In a heartbeat, she replied, "I vote for Bass."

Ace’s heart skipped a beat when she finally found his gaze. There was a knowing smirk on her face. She was out to get him.
