Chapter 174: BATTLE’S AND SECRETS

The matriarch dropped the phone, and turned to her daughter-in-law.

"I think it worked, Gabby. Your plan worked!" She said in excitement.

"Really? What did Fay say? Did she give you an update?"

"She did Gabby. Come." She led her to the couch in her office, and they sat down.

"Quickly, tell me. What did Fay say?"

"She said Ace just left the house with some Lillie’s. You were right about him thinking that’s what you wanted."

"I knew it!" She pumped a triumphant fist in the air.

"She said, she explained her side of the story, and he understood it. The quiet part was the one where they kissed. I could tell, even if she didn’t tell me."

"Yes!" She kicked her feet in the air, laughing, and giddy with excitement.

"They’re going to get back together, and Celine can’t say we had a hand in it. Finally, I can return the party planner’s call, so we can finalise the details of the event."

"Yeah, let’s do that."

The matriarch opened her arms, and Gabrielle went in for a hug. "I’m so glad you’re by my side, Gabby. I’m so happy."

"Me too."

A knock sounded on the door, and they separated.

"Who is there?" the matriarch called.

The door opened, and Reign Kings sashayed into the room. Right behind her, Celine followed.

"Look who I found in the living room. It’s the woman carrying your first grandchild’s, first child," Celine announced with an air of mischief.

Reign walked up to the matriarch, and kissed her cheek. She did the same to Gabrielle, then took a step back.

"I brought some casseroles. Alice made them," she said, stretching the bowl in her hand.

The matriarch briefly stared at her outstretched hands, before lifting her head up to meet her gaze. "You didn’t call to say you were coming," she said, unimpressed.

"I was driving to my father’s house, and thought to stop by. I’m sorry if this is the wrong time."

"Oh stop apologising, Reign. You came at a very good time. Don’t mind mum. She just hates when her gossip session with Gabby is interrupted. You’re welcome to come here whenever you want. You’re family now," Celine said.

"And who are you to ordain anyone, family? Ace is the one that allegedly got her pregnant. Until he says something to me, I don’t recognize her as part—-"

The matriarch caught Celine’s warning glare, and let the remainder of her words hang in the air.

Unfortunately, she had to skate on thin ice around Celine. Her threat had been vivid. If she even so much as caught wind of the fact she wasn’t ready to let Fay leave their family, all hell was bound to break loose.

"I have a meeting to attend. It’s for the event that is to happen in two days. I’ll see you all later. Gabby," she turned to her, and kissed her cheeks. "Are you coming with me?"

"Don’t worry. I’ll just close your office doors for you."

"Thank you, my darling."

She eyed the duo of Celine and Reign with open disrespect, before walking out of the room.

"Mum’s a little bit prickly today. What has your son done this time?" Celine turned to Gabrielle, the second the door shut behind the matriarch.

"You know my son doesn’t do anything to upset the matriarch. You’re just looking to annoy me. I’m sorry, but I won’t be giving you that power today. Please leave the room, I need to lock the door," she said.

Celine scoffed. "Do you realise this is my mother’s office? If anyone should leave, it should be you."

"Your mum, my mother in law specifically requested I lock her office doors for her. Do you want to disobey the matriarch?"

Celine stepped forward, her chin lifted haughtily in the air. "I’m telling you to know your place. If you did, you would watch the way you speak to me."

"I’ve not spoken to you in any kind of way," Gabrielle fired back, taking one step closer to her. "You’re just used to me ignoring your nonsense, so you think you can keep pushing even when you already have my back against the wall. Newsflash, I don’t fear you anymore, Celine. There’s no way you haven’t hurt me. The only thing you can do now is snuff out the life of one of my children. It’s something I won’t put past you."

Her lip trembled as she spoke, and her eyes showed her utter disdain for the first daughter of the matriarch.

Celine, completely caught off guard by her rant, blinked in disbelief. "Who do you think you’re talking to in that tone? Are you accusing me of being a murderer?" She stressed the word, like the heinous crime it was.

"Think whatever you want to think. All I need is for you to get out of the matriarch’s room, so I can lock the door."

She held her gaze, unwavering and unrelenting. She was tired of Celine thinking she was in charge of everything.

For so many years, she had allowed her to walk all over her like she was nothing. Not anymore. She simply couldn’t do it anymore.

Reign watched the back and forth from behind. She was amused and also entertained by the entire thing.

She had never seen that kind of fire in Gabrielle before. Usually, she would cower, or just walk away to avoid troubles.

It was quite the sight to see. But knowing Celine, this wasn’t going to end well. She would hit her where it hurt the most, and there would be tears. Lot of it.

"And if I don’t? What will you do? Hide behind your husband like you used to do, in hopes the inept fool will fight for you.? Where’s he now, Gabby? I’ll tell you. In a place you’ll never—"

Gabrielle raised her hand to hit her, but Celine sensing it coming, caught her wrist before it could get to her face.

"Do you want to be charged with assault?" She continued unshakingly. "That’s my problem with weak bitches like you. You always start what you can’t finish!"

She threw her hands to the side, and raised her hand to slap her. Just then, the door opened, and Ace stepped into the room.

"Don’t do that, Celine!" Reign who had been passive all along, jumped in the second she sensed Ace’s presence..

He ignored her, and walked straight to where his raised aunt’s hand froze. "What the hell were you about to do?" He questioned, pushing his mother behind him.

"What did it look like?" she replied, after swiftly recovering from the shock of his presence.

"You were going to hit my mother, and you dare to question me?" He raged, as he dragged the words between his lower teeth.

"Your mother suggested I was a murderer."

"Well if the shoe fits," he said angrily, thick veins popping off all over his face.

"I’m not surprised you would say that. That’s what my brother gets for procreating with a lowlife whore!"

Ace rapidly moved to strike her when the door opened again, and Colin walked into the room.

He looked around, then paused when he saw Ace’s lifted hand.

Shaking his head disappointedly, he walked over to where everyone stood.

"What the heck is going on here? You all were making so much noise, and for what?"

"Because this dirty dog has lost her marbles, and needs to be taught a lesson!" Ace explained bitterly.

"Two against one, yet you can’t even win. I know it must hurt that no matter what you do, I never lose. I would be mad too."

"Oh you will lose soon. That is a promise. Your kids are coming to town. I can’t wait to see my cousins."

The sinister light in her eyes went dim, and her brows lifted. "What do you mean my kids are coming to town? Where did you get that information from?"

"Let’s go mum. I can’t spend a second more in the presence of this bitch."

He wrapped his hand around his mother’s, and dragged her alongside him.

"What do you mean my kids are coming?" Celine screamed behind him, but he neither stopped nor turned.

"You’re screaming, Aunt Celine," Colin said.

"Shut up!" She shoved past him, and followed after Ace.

As the door closed, Colin was left alone with Reign Kings.

She was the first woman he ever truly loved. When she had gone after Ace, he couldn’t begin to explain the heartbreak he experienced.

It was even worse when he found out she knew about his feelings, but only just toyed with him. And now, she was pregnant for Ace.

Incapable of being in the same room with her, without bitter memories returning, he was about to walk away, when she hurried across him, and stopped.

"Hey, Colin," she said.

"Stay away from me," he warned with a raised finger, as he tried to walk away again.

"Are you still mad at me?" She pouted.

He drew closer to her, and lifted a shaky finger. "Shouldn’t I be? That child could as well be mine. Why did you pick Ace as his father, when we both slept with you at the same time?"

"Shhh!" She looked around, as if the walls had ears. "Shut it, please!" She panicked.

"Stay away from me then."

He shrugged her out of his path, and stormed out of the room.
