THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY
Chapter 173: CRUEL FATE

Chapter 173: CRUEL FATE

They sat side by side on the grasses of the garden, and talked.

Fay couldn’t wipe off the smile that was etched on her face.

Her heart pumped for joy, and she just couldn’t stop smiling.

"How have you been, Fay?" He asked.

She was close to him, and it felt like all was well in the world again.

Although, it wasn’t really well. She just had a presence that made you forget whatever bullshit she had going on.

She was perhaps the greatest actress the world would ever see.

"I’d say I’ve been fine, but I’d be lying. I’ve sat on my bed every night, dreaming of what life could have been if Sophie’s birthday didn’t happen. So much changed on that day."

He gruffled. "It sure did. A lot changed."

A lot he realized much later, included his feelings for her. He had gone from denying they existed, to accepting they did, but couldn’t be pushed further.

Those feelings had left him in a rioting mess of emotions, because he didn’t know what to do with them.

Well, that has changed. It was clear to him what to do.

It didn’t matter that he wanted to draw closer to her, and sniff her hair. Heck, it didn’t matter that he wanted to kiss that cherry hue of her lips, until they quivered for him.

Her presence incited the dirtiest desires in his heart, and he knew letting her go would be suicidal attempt.

But he had to let her go. He had to choose between his fortune, family, and her. He chose the former.

"How have you been?" She lifted her gaze to stare at him.

He turned at the same time, and they held their stare for a few seconds.

When his vision began to drop to her lips, he blinked, and turned away.

"Trying to navigate the newness of the situation, I guess." He shrugged.

She noticed he didn’t mention anything about Reign. The matriarch had told her they were living together.

Even thinking about it now made her heart twist with pain.

The fact Reign was living a life she wished she lived, hurt more than anything else the world had thrown at her.

There had been hope of a new life. A new life as Ace’s wife in truth. All that hung on a very volatile scale right now.

Who would he choose? The woman that he picked for a contract marriage? Or the one he had known all his life, who happened to be carrying his child?

It was quite the dilemma. She doubted she would come out victorious when a choice was made.

"I should have told you the truth. I was just scared."

"Scared of what?" He asked.

"Scared of the future. Also scared you won’t believe me. Why would you? You’ve known her longer than you have me." Her voice came out solemn, and her face fell.

He remained silent, replaying what she had just said in his head.

She had twisted the narrative in a way that made her seem like a victim. Damn, was she good at doing that. He had to hand it to her.

"I think you should have tried. It’s better than making me feel like you were indeed in the wrong."

"I’m sorry. It’s all my fault. Everything’s my fault."

She didn’t know why she was blaming herself. She just hoped it would be enough for things to return to one-third of normal.

The privilege to sit beside him like this was something she thought was long lost.

He was here with her right now. Angry or not, nothing else mattered.

"Alice and Marilyn won’t stop talking about you."

She jerked in surprise when his hand carried hers, and held it firmly.

"I miss them so much. They call, but I can’t seem to pick up the phone. I feel like I won’t stop crying if I hear their voices. Same thing I do when your mum, and Sophie call. I can’t bear to hear their voices."

"And the matriarch?"

His insides tensed as he waited for her response.

The matriarch had not gotten back to him yet. If she was in contact with Fay, it would pretty much answer his question of where her loyalty resided.

"Not really. She did send me here to be honest, but I haven’t been in contact with her recently. Why?"

His body relaxed, because he had gotten the right answer.

"Nothing. I was just wondering."

"I haven’t been in contact with Leighton or Alexander either," she felt the need to add.

She didn’t want any misconceptions, especially when it came to her relationship with Alexander.

She was always going to see the doctor as a good friend, and generally, a good person. Aside from that, there was no romantic feeling involved.

He brought his gaze to her face, and she lowered hers.

"You want to talk specifically about Alexander, don’t you? I know he’s the one that took you away that day."

She stiffened, conflicted by his tone. He didn’t exactly sound mad, but how could she be sure he just wasn’t concealing his annoyance?

"I just want to clarify any misconceptions. Alexander is a friend. A very good friend because he actually listens to me. Nothing more."

"Hmmm," he mused for a few seconds. "And Xylon Bass?" he blurted.

This time around, she froze for a few seconds. She had not expected that name to be mentioned in any way.

He was asking about Xylon, so he had to know everything.

Cam had ratted her out after all. She couldn’t fault him either. He had to be loyal to his boss. It was her turn to confess.

"I have nothing to do with that man. He keeps pestering me with calls, but I don’t answer them. You have to believe me Ace." She looked up so he could see the desperation in her eyes.

Reflexively, his hand reached for her face, and she bit her lips. The action drew his attention, and before he could stop himself, he kissed her.

It was quick, and caught her off guard. She blinked and he had pulled his lips away. But their faces remained inches apart.

She bit her lips again, massaging the spot he had just kissed her.

"Fuck it," he muttered, and went in a second time.

Their lips moved hungrily and in sync. It became a dance of not just flesh meeting together, but of souls merging.

Two people at the mercy of a cruel fate.

"I missed this so much," he blurted between kisses.

He couldn’t hold back the words from being spilled out of his mouth.

It was the truth. He missed her lips so much. Every time he kissed her, he didn’t want to ever stop.

He ran a hand through her curls, as he kissed her until her lips trembled feverishly.

Pulling her face away, he cupped her face in both hands, and just stared at her.

Her eyes opened, a smile dancing in her eyes.

"I’ve dreamt about this a lot," she said. "I’ve dreamt about you."

"Really? What happened in your dreams?" He lifted a curious brow.

She blushed, and tried to avert her gaze, but his hand on it wouldn’t let go.

"What happens in your dreams, Fay?"

"Nothing." She shook her head as hard as she could, despite his hand holding her in place.

"I don’t believe you. I thought we agreed on no more lies."

Her heart lurched. He was right. She couldn’t lie to him. She also couldn’t tell him about her dreams.

They were too provocatively descriptive. She had woken up one too many times, clutching invincible pearls.

It wasn’t normal to want anyone the way her body craved the man right in front of her.

She craved him to the point where he infiltrated her dreams, and left her yearning for him.

"I—" she bit her lip, unable to continue.

He laughed at her shyness, momentarily forgetting he was supposed to be pissed at her.

It was a tiresome job having to remind himself this was all an act.

"I know what you’re trying to say. I don’t need dreams though. I have my eyes, and my thoughts. You fill both, Fay. You haunt me," he said.

"Don’t say that," she muttered.

"Why? In the spirit of truth, I’ve decided to be truthful. Tell me Fay, would you be attending the Atticus event?"

"Yeah," she looked at him. "Why?"

"Because I want you to go with me. Can I come pick you up, so we could go together?" His heart was beating faster, with every question he asked.

"Really? What about Reign?"

"What about her?" He frowned with disgust, to really sell off the act.

"I thought you’d want to go with her, considering she’s carrying your child, and now lives with you."

"Shhhh. Don’t say that. It’s you I want Fay. Not Reign, and certainly not another woman. Just you."

He moved forward, and kissed her again. Her hand went round his neck, as she surrendered herself to him.
