Chapter 162: THE TRUTH ABOUT FAY

Chapter 162: THE TRUTH ABOUT FAY

Ace’s eyes stuck on the hands of Fay’s aunt, blinked when she pulled out a file folder and handed it over to him.

He released the breath he was holding long enough to accept it.

"There’s all the evidence you need. The truth is, I share the biggest portion of blame for how Fay turned out. Having her at such a young age was a big disadvantage to her. So whilst I was away at work, I had to leave her behind sometimes. But it wasn’t also my fault, because I had to pay for our feeding and her education."

She started to tear up again. Ace wasn’t paying attention to her puffy face. In fact, he was more caught up on the fact she said she had to work to feed and pay for Fay’s education.

Fay claimed she started working at a young age so she could afford everything she needed.

She said her Aunt never paid any attention to her when it came to expenses.

There were so many lies, and it was doing his head in.

He wasn’t sure if it was wise to look at her evidence in front of her. What if he couldn’t hold in his anger at what he discovered? He thought as he played with the ends of the file.

"I know it’s a lot to take in. You were sold some perfect image of an Angel, but that’s unfortunately not my Fay. She picked up sex work when things got really difficult, after my second husband left. I told her not to do it. I warned her against selling her body. To even help her combat her lust, I decided to open an account for her in my name so I could see the source of the money she earns. Nothing worked. Her job at the restaurant was just a front to freely sleep with other women’s husbands. I did my best!" She choked, and one of her daughters quickly drew her into her body.

"Yeah, that’s Fay for you," the other daughter picked up where her mother left off. "She cheated on her ex boyfriend a lot. He loved her so he couldn’t leave. When he eventually got tired of all her lies and crocodile tears, he ran away for dear life."

Ace’s brain stormed to the past. The exact night he met Fay. He had called her ex boyfriend.

She had made it seem like he was ruthless for dismissing her. Meanwhile, she was the one at fault.

His hand folded into a fist underneath the table as thick veins popped up on both sides of his head.

He didn’t know who he thought he knew. To think he was getting more whipped by the day.

One more week, and she would have had him completely under her spell.

Even now, he found it difficult to reconcile the Fay he knew to this picture that was being painted.

"See for yourself," she continued when he didn’t budge.

From the corner of her eyes, Lynne stared at her daughter, encouraging her to continue in her stead.

They were this close to convincing him all they said about Fay was true.

She could feel it. All that was left was for him to look at the perfectly curated evidence. Not even the most intelligent person would look at that evidence, and not raise a brow.

Ace nodded, and began to open the file. Internally, he vibrated, but he couldn’t show them just how truly weak he was.

The glue came undone, and he inhaled sharply as his hands touched the first evidence.

With all the courage he could muster, he pulled out what turned out to be a picture.

There she was. Obviously young Fay by how much softer, and smaller her features were.

What caught his attention was her eyes, and the slight tilt of her head. She looked to be in full ecstasy.

There was a man hugging her, but his face wasn’t clear.

He waited for the storm that rocked him to pass before he continued.

Externally, he made sure to keep his composure. It was the Atticus way. Despite the fact he had strayed from his teachings lately.

They were not supposed to show emotions. Especially in the face of troubles.

He picked the next, and the next. They were all pictures of Fay in compromising positions with different men.

The last one he picked in particular, made his stomach churn the second he set eye on it.

It was a man standing at the end of a room.

Fay was at the door, her hands pulling down the strings of her very raunchy gown.

His stomach kicked violently, and it was all he could do not to throw up.

This was obviously the husband she tried to seduce. It was true after all.

"This is your husband?" He pointed the image to her, amazed that he could keep a steady voice.

"Yes," she said solemnly.

He swallowed, and kept the picture to the side.

There was more evidence in the file. He just didn’t know if he had the heart to continue.

"There are also receipts from Fay’s school years. It shows that I paid every tuition fee she ever paid."

That he could look at, he thought, as his hands went into the file again.

She was correct once more. They were receipts upon receipts.

"That’s not all," Lynne said, and his heart did a double take.

What more could she have in store? There was already concrete evidence to prove that the Fay he knew was a lie. Any more, and he didn’t know if he would be able to sleep from the shame of being fooled, ever again.

"There’s video evidence too. In case you don’t believe the pictures and the receipts."

That made him jump to his feet in protest. "Enough! I’ve seen enough!"

He knew he would lose his mind if he saw a video of Fay doing God knows what.

The mental images the pictures provided had done enough damage.

Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out his wallet.

There was a cheque sheet which was neatly folded inside.

He pulled it out, and handed it over to her.

"Here, take this. For your time, and for the evidence. I’m taking these with me."

He didn’t wait for their reaction to the check. Grabbing all the evidence, he pushed them back into the file folder, and turned on his heel.

"Oh my God!" Lynne gasped when she opened the cheque as soon as the door closed behind her.

"What’s that mum?" the girls asked in unison.

She showed them the check, and their eyes almost bulged out of its socket.

"Are we—- millionaires?" One daughter asked.

"We are!" The other screamed, as they all jumped on their mothers body.

"I told you girls," she said as they rocked her body happily. "I told you we just need to play our part, and everything will be alright."

Ace walked straight to his car, and slid in. Tossing the folder at the backseat, he started the car, and drove off.

What he needed was a big distraction, before he did what he planned to do next.

He drove past the traffic, not giving a damn if it would incur a fine.

Driving crazily into the lake house, he stormed into the house, ignoring the greetings from staff.

He walked straight to his bedroom and tossed the folder on it.

His hand palmed his forehead, as he paced back and forth. To think that the lake house had been the catalyst for all of this.

If he hadn’t been here, he wouldn’t have slept with Reign.

If he hadn’t slept with Reign, she wouldn’t have gotten pregnant. She wouldn’t have gotten out of her way to prove to him his wife wasn’t the angel he thought she was.

Okay, maybe that was giving Reign too much credit. Pregnant or not, sooner or later, she would have found a way to dig into Fay, and unearth her lies.

Anyway, the bottom line was the lake house was the reason he now knew the truth.

His phone started to ring, and he reached into his pocket.

"Landon?" He replied in a heartbeat with the phone tucked in his ears.

"What are you doing, man? Mum said you were at the house, but ignored her. Don’t tell me you’ve allowed Reign to get deep under your skin?"

"Don’t say what you don’t know, Lan," he hissed in disgust. "I have with me here real evidence that shows Fay isn’t who she says she is. Now I’m confused if the matriarch knows this or if she’s also being played by Fay."

"Hold on a second, what the fuck are you talking about? You make it sound like Fay is some kind of monster. Have you seen your wife? She’s damn near an angel!"

"An angel my ass! You know what, I don’t have the time to listen to you defend her. I’m going to drink my heart out tonight. Tomorrow, I’ll have the answer to what to do with the information I have at hand."

He ended the call, tossed the phone to the bed, and proceeded to the bathroom

First a bath, then a drink. And lastly, a plot to take down the biggest trap he had ever fallen for.
