THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY -
Chapter 153: THE RACE
Chapter 153: THE RACE
Ace didn’t stop to think, or to listen for the sound of the people calling him back.
He kept walking and walking until he got to his car. Pushing his hand into his pockets, he sought for his keys, then remembered Cam had been the one to drive them to the mansion.
In frustration, he kicked against the car tyres over and over again.
The fifth time, he felt a touch on his shoulders. Shrugging the hand away before he even knew who it was, he turned to see Cam.
"My keys!" He barked.
Cam nodded, and quietly handed over the key. He didn’t know what happened. There were just a lot of movements all around. But on seeing Reign from afar, he had a feeling she had something to do with the chaos.
Ace jumped into the car, and started it. He drove out with a creased forehead, and an intense gaze.
As he approached the gate, he saw the moment Alexander whisked Fay away.
His hold on the steering tightened, as he felt even more fury float through his veins.
He didn’t slow down as he drove towards the gate.
Someone screamed at the sound of approaching cars, and everyone jumped out of the way.
Reflexively, the gate guy pressed the panel controlling the big gate, and its wings spread open.
Ace drove through it, and past Alexander and Fay who were standing by the road.
She looked up, but in a flash, he was gone. His car was nowhere to be found.
The speed in which he had left the house scared her to death. She began to shiver as she turned to Alexander.
"He’s going to get himself in trouble," she whispered, feeling her heart leave her chest.
"Do you want to go after him?" He asked.
"No," she shook her head. "Please no. A car chase never ends well. Let’s just go. Please take me out of here."
He nodded, and quickly opened his car door for her to go in.
Dazedly, she entered into the backseat, too numb to let out another word.
Everything had happened so fast. One second, she was bouncing happily to return to him and his friends. The next, she was hearing strange things her brain was still finding incredibly hard to comprehend.
She closed her eyes, and just allowed the silent tears to fall.
This wasn’t how she envisioned the day to end. It was supposed to be a good and happy day. Everyone was supposed to be in harmony.
How did it go wrong? How did it all go wrong? She questioned herself over and over again.
The car passed through traffic, and came to a halt.
At the other lane, Ace waited impatiently. When it became clear there was some sort of blockage that was preventing them from moving, he began to find a way to leave the lane entirely.
He needed to feel the rush of driving. It was the adrenaline rush that made him want to jump into his car and drive until he could feel his lungs in his tongue.
Looking through his rearview mirror, his brain became charged as he calculated ways to manoeuvre himself out of the space.
The second he saw a space just towards the U-turn, he took it, almost brushing the car beside him.
Hissing at the honks he kept receiving, he ignored them, and successfully turned the car around. Cutting into a road that wasn’t a major road, he felt the freedom he sorted.
He drove through streets after streets, grateful that these areas were private, hence, no one ever walked around.
It gave him the freedom to drive at a speed he would have definitely gotten at least ten tickets for.
With one hand on the steering, he ran a finger through his hair with the other hand.
Today’s events were a perfect description of his life. One minute, things were fine and dandy. The next, everything went to shit.
He thought the day was going to be a good day. The way it started had deceived him into those thoughts.
Unfortunately, life was a bitch. For the thousandth time, he had experienced her burn.
The speed at which he drove was so fast, he almost ran into an animal that was crossing the road.
Someone let out a screeching scream, at the same moment he saw the animal and applied his brake.
"You fool!" He heard someone scream, as he swerved round, and continued on his way.
He wasn’t entirely concerned with whatever anyone had to say about him. He deserved it all for continuously fighting for a life that clearly didn’t want him.
Maybe if he wasn’t born into a wealthy family, his life would be less shit.
However, he realised his thoughts were all about, except where they had to be.
First, Reign was carrying his child.
The second the thought flashed through his mind, he stepped on the gas, just to flush that thought out.
He drove round and round, but it wasn’t enough because of the restrictions the lanes he took came with.
A thought formed in his head, as he drove past a racetrack.
Turning around, he returned to it and stepped out of his car.
He made his way into the building, and was greeted by Kelly, the manager of the tracks.
"Hello handsome, it’s been a while."
She tried to kiss him, but he pulled his body out of reach. Frowning in disgust, he walked past her into the tracks.
"You get even stricter by the day," she said behind him.
Ignoring her, he focused his attention on the man inspecting a car. It was obvious he wanted to race.
Ace also wanted a race. It would please him to beat the stranger.
But when the man turned around, greater anger surged through him. It was none other than Xylon Bass.
"Ace? Not exactly the person I expected to see today," he laughed humorlessly.
"I guess your day is made then," Ace replied, as he walked over to the row of cars in search of one.
"Boys," Kelly drawled, stepping in. "Don’t get crazy on the tracks, now. If you have a bone to pick, do it whilst riding." She threw a wink their way when she was done speaking.
"Ace knows he’d get his ass whooped if he races with me. I doubt he’d want to try."
Ace held his breath, trying to control the anger that just grew more and more until it got to the peak of explosion.
It wasn’t just enough that the bastard had scooped up his wife, he was now trying to taunt him.
The frustrations, and hurt from the day gathered into one, and propelled him to make an offer.
"How about this Bass," he began over his shoulder, as he inspected the car. If I win, I get one of your businesses. One of my choosing of course. If you win, you get one of mine."
Xylon thought about it for a few seconds. He couldn’t afford to take too long in case Ace thought he was growing cold feet.
They were competitors in every way. Wherever they met, it was natural for them to compete.
Ace was usually the more level headed when it came to competition’s, he would admit.
If he was the one making the propositions now, then he had to be really careful with the deal he was willing to make.
"That sounds interesting. Are we including legacies?"
"Your voice." Ace shrugged.
It didn’t make any difference to him at that moment. Blinded by the hurt from everything that was happening concurrently, he just wanted to feel some kind of thrill of his own making.
Being behind the wheels of a spot car, racing one of his biggest rivals was the best way to go about it.
The incentive on it was just a bonus.
"I don’t think we should get too crazy. Let’s leave out the legacies. Any business at all aside the legacies," Xylon said.
"Works for me."
Xylon went over to him, and stretched out a hand. "You’re not going to change your tone when you lose, will you?"
Ace paused his inspection, and turned to him. "Are you projecting what you plan on doing?"
His lips curved into a mischievous smile. "You know me, Ace. I’m too big to be shaken by uncertainties. Not when it’s certain I’ll beat you."
"Good, healthy confidence. You’ll need that when I beat you."
Disregarding his outstretched hands, he searched for Kelly who hurried over.
"I want the red beauty," he said.
He was already seated in her, when he realised he had subconsciously chosen Fay again.
It didn’t matter where he was, she just happened to always be on his mind.
"Not anymore," he whispered, and looked ahead of him.
Kelly held the flag, preparing to raise it.
He felt Xylon’s eyes on him, and turned.
"You’ll lose," Xylon mouthed and smiled.
"I never lose," he thought, and returned his gaze forward, just as Kelly raised the flag.
