THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY -
Chapter 147: RESTLESS
Chapter 147: RESTLESS
Fay couldn’t sleep. She tried her hardest, using different means, but sleep eluded her.
She tossed and turned, rolled around the bed, and twice, almost fell out of it, still, she couldn’t find sleep.
Giving up, she rose to her feet, and proceeded to her closet. She picked a dress long enough to cover her entire body, and wore it.
Grabbing her phone, and the bag she stored her products for her perfumes, she stepped out of her room.
The hallways were illuminated, so she was able to see her path. She continued downstairs, and walked past the living room.
Careful not to make any sound, she opened the front doors, and stepped out into the open.
The breeze of the midnight found her skin, and as she inhaled, the freshness emanating from the fountain stationed at her destination filled her nostrils.
She looked around her, and found no one in sight. But just as she took a step forward, a bright light flashed in her face.
She paused and blinked multiple times, as her eyes fought to adjust to the intrusion.
Lifting her head again when the light had lowered, she found a man wielding a torchlight.
"Mrs Fay?" He called in a deep fatherly voice.
She had never seen him before, but apparently, he knew her well enough to know her name.
"Hello," she said.
"Where are you headed?" He asked, and she could hear the concern in his voice.
"To the garden." It was only after she answered she remembered the garden was being worked on. She hoped to God it was inhabitable now. She really wanted to get Sophie’s fragrance out of the way before dawn.
"Oh. Do you need something from the garden? I could get it for you."
"No!" She replied hastily. Biting her lips, she lifted the bag so he could see it. "I need to make some perfumes."
She watched his eyes dissociate for a few seconds. When his brow snapped together, recognition passed through.
"Oh, Marilyn did mention the garden needed to be taken care of because you make use of it. Please, come with me."
Smiling because things hadn’t escalated, and there was no need to explain in detail, she followed behind him as he led her into the garden.
The first thing she noticed were the latest arrangements.
Instead of littered all around, the flowers had been arranged by the species. Now she could easily get whichever she wanted.
She also noticed that a working bench and chairs had been placed at an easily accessible part of the garden.
"Is that for me?" She blurted out in excitement.
"I guess so, Mrs Fay."
She thanked the man profusely for escorting her to the garden. He asked if she needed anything else, and she replied, stating she wanted to be alone. He bowed, and excused himself.
Fay set to work almost immediately. She thought her lack of sleep was because she couldn’t stop thinking about Ace, but it turned out her mind recognized she had a pending task.
In honesty, Ace also occupied her mind. Except when she intentionally fought to kick him out, he always did.
By the time the first hint of dawn came, Fay had crept back into her room, and into her bed.
It was with a smile on her face after completing the task she needed to complete, that she drifted off to sleep.
"Oh my God!" Her eyes flickered open, and she jerked up.
"Mrs Fay?" Marilyn, who had come into Fay’s room for the third time that day to see if she was up, called.
"Marilyn?" She called in a sleepy voice, as she wiped the sleep off her face with the back of her hand. "Why are you here?"
"To check up on you. I couldn’t leave for the party without knowing you’re awake, and neither can sir Ace. You two need to leave together," she explained.
Her eyes bulged, as she scampered out of bed. "What is the time, Marilyn? How long did I sleep?" She asked in a panic stricken voice as she ran around the room.
"Calm down, Mrs Fay. You still have about an hour until you have to le–"
"Leave us alone, Marilyn."
Fay froze when she heard his voice. She turned around, and saw him standing just beside her door. And of course, he looked as pretty as he always did.
Marilyn bowed, and walked out of the room.
"Hey, are you okay?" He asked, drawing closer to her.
She took a step back out of impulse.
"Are you going to be late because of me? I’m sorry I slept for so long. But between being unable to sleep and deciding to make some perfume for Sophie, and sliding back to bed to sleep, it was bound to be a long rest. I’m so sorry."
He waited for her to catch her breath before he moved to speak again. As he waited for her, he observed the movement of her lips. She has clearly just risen from the bed, so how was she already so damn perfect?
What he wanted the most in that moment was not to talk about a birthday party. In fact, it was the last thing on his mind. He would much rather they spoke with the movements of their bodies. In that state, he wanted much more than a kiss. Much more.
"Are you really that mad at me?" Her lips trembled as she questioned his silence.
"Do you want me to be angry at you?" He asked.
"No."
"Then why do you keep asking? Don’t answer that," he immediately said before she could begin cracking her head. "Anyway, I brought you this." He stretched a box towards her, aware she would rather come to him, than allow him to come to her.
Whatever reasons she had in her head, it was her prerogative.
"What’s that?" She questioned, drawing closer to him.
With every step she took, her scent escaped into his nose. She never allowed him to forget how good she smelled. Even if he wanted to, her scent was already ingrained in his brain. It was impossible to do that.
"It’s something that belonged to my grandmother. She called to ask me to give it to you. It’s a necklace," he said.
"Oh," she replied, for lack of better words to string together.
When she was close enough, she stretched out her hand to grab the box, but he had other plans. He swiftly withdrew his hand, and grabbed her by the waist with his empty hand.
Pulling her into his body, he brought his lips down on hers. For a second there, the world stood still, save for the beating of their hearts.
Until she recalled she had just woken up, and shuddered.
"What is it?" He asked, pulling her away.
She covered her mouth with her hand, and turned away. "Nothing." Her voice came out muffled.
He was in the midst of amusement when it clicked in his head. "Morning breath?"
Her face instantly grew red. "No." She shook her head.
He laughed inwardly, but kept a serious face outwardly so as not to embarrass her.
Walking towards her dresser, he dropped the box on it, and returned beside the door.
"Wear it on whatever dress you’re wearing. I’ll be waiting downstairs for you."
She let out the breath she had been holding when she heard the door close behind him.
With a start, she dashed for the bathroom. She really didn’t have time to think of anything other than the fact there was a birthday party, and because of her, they may be late for it.
"You look gorgeous, Mrs Fay," Marilyn said after she had put on the necklace around Fay’s neck.
She moved out of the way so Fay could see her reflection in the mirror. "Marilyn! Isn’t this too much?" Her voice rose in alarm when she saw the face beat Marilyn had given her.
"Nope. Nothing’s too much my dear."
Few minutes later, Fay made her way out of the house to the car where Ace was waiting for her. As she slid in, his breath caught against his chest.
"You look stunning," he said, meaning every word of it.
He couldn’t stop staring at her. When she smiled, and her dimples deepened, he wanted to reach out for her, and kiss her senseless.
"God, you’re beautiful!" He repeated.
"Thank you," she replied shyly.
"The necklace looks good on you too." His eyes moved down to her clavicle. They called to him, clearly in need of a good tongue massage.
His thoughts grew bolder and dangerous. So did the bulge in the middle of his pants.
"Thank you."
"Damn you’re gorgeous!"
She broke into a feat of laughter, loving the inflections in his voice every time he complimented her.
When her laughter subsided, she stretched out her hand. He misread her thoughts, and kissed it instead.
She giggled. "No silly. The gifts."
"I’d rather look at my gift," he replied, staring at her as if it was the first time he had seen her.
