THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY -
Chapter 141: INTENTIONS
Chapter 141: INTENTIONS
"You were so cool with how you handled that situation," Landon said, creeping behind Ace.
Ace half turned, and frowned. "What did you do to everyone? Why is it just the burly guys and a cashier left?"
"The manager threatened to bundle you and whoever was the reason for the holdup out, so I offered him something he couldn’t resist." He smiled sinisterly.
"Do I own the place now?" Ace chuckled. "It’s getting hard to keep track of my business ventures."
"Nope. Someone else does."
"You?" Ace asked, impressed.
"Not me either. I don’t think it’s any concern of yours yet. Let’s just say, once paperworks has been signed, it’s going to be a new dawn here."
Ace shook his head. "What exactly do you plan on doing with a kids store?"
"You’ll see."
"I can’t wait."
He walked around searching for the perfect gift. Out of all the crazy things they had done in the past, this could very much make the top ten list.
If the media got wind of what had just occurred here, it would be a nightmare for him. Some people might argue it would be deservingly so. After all, he had blocked real people from accessing what they were paying for, just because he felt the urge to kiss his wife.
It was either that, or go off on her for standing next to Xylon Bass. She didn’t deserve that.
"I found the diary section, bro!" Landon called.
His voice echoed towards Ace, thanks to the lack of physical bodies in the store.
Ace traced his voice through the echoes that lingered, and found him hunched over a glass box, staring at the different diaries floating.
"How did they do that?" Ace mused.
"I think there’s some kind of technology involved. It gives it an aquarium vibe."
"You can tell they put a lot of thought into this store. Sucks that you did whatever you did."
"Hey, whatever I did, which I’m definitely not telling you, I did for you and your wife. Be glad, and be grateful."
"I didn’t say otherwise," he threw his hands in the air in surrender. "Let’s talk about the kind of diary we’re going to be picking."
"Your wife doesn’t know you overheard her talking about getting a diary. I told her she was going to lose the bet though."
"You did what?!" He hissed.
"I didn’t tell her why, obviously."
"You’re so—" he swallowed his words, and focused on picking up a diary.
Figuring out the technicalities, he picked out one that looked like something Fay would give to Sophie.
"Got it!"
"Now what?" Landon yawned.
"Why are you trying to swallow me?"
"I’m hungry bro."
"Nice idea! Let’s get some candies too for Sophie. Throw in plush toys, and some other things, and we’re good to go. Common, don’t be lazy!"
Landon dragged his feet as he followed Ace around.
After going through every aisle in the big store, Ace was finally satisfied.
He returned to the cashier’s table, and a man welcomed him. "Would that be all sir?" He asked.
Ace turned to the three trolleys that were all full. "Should I just get the entire store?" He asked sarcastically.
"No sir." The man turned red, and hurriedly began to calculate costs.
"Why do I still need to pay if you’ve done your due diligence?" Ace turned to Landon who was already munching on a pack of chips he snatched out of a table.
"Really?" Ace lifted a brow.
"What? I told you I was hungry." He shrugged.
"Whatever." He shook his head.
After computing everything bought, Ace handed his card over to pay.
"Here," Ace handed him a couple bills when he was done. "You’re a good man."
"Finally!" Landon said, as the items were bagged.
He picked up three, and Ace carried the remaining three.
"Do you plan on building a children’s centre? Why all these gifts?"
"It’s Sophie, man. She has to feel special."
"Wow, you get even softer by the day. Fay really has a positive influence on you."
"I’m not even going to dignify that with a response."
Rolling his eyes, he walked through the exit door that had been opened by one of the burly men.
He carried the bags straight to his own car Cam had driven before.
Taking the initiative, Cam opened the boots, and the bags were dumped in there.
"Landon, go with Cam. I want to drive with Fay," he said, stretching out his hands.
Even without being told, Cam already knew what he wanted.
He handed him the keys, and stepped aside as he went to the driver’s door.
"What are you waiting for?" He paused when he didn’t hear shuffling feets.
"Boss?" Cam called, his face contorted with confusion.
"Well, bring Fay here."
"And while he’s doing that, what do you plan on doing about my hunger?" Landon asked as Cam hurried away to fetch Fay.
"Nothing? You’re a grown ass man, Landon."
"Oh. I turn heavens for you, but you can’t show a bit of empathy for your best friend? Your brother? Do you know how long we’ve been friends? Who left their—"
"Jesus Landon, what do you want me to do? Produce food from the sky? Shouldn’t you have your brothers back? I’m trying to get—"
"Please tell me those bags are not filled up with just gifts," Fay said, interrupting the sappy moment.
"Fay?" Landon swiftly turned to her.
"Hey, Landon," she replied.
"Would you say I’m a good friend to your husband?"
She blinked twice, taken aback by that question.
"I don’t really know your dynamics but from what I’ve seen, you’re a good friend."
"Ha! Hear that, Ace? I’m a good friend. I’m a really good friend!"
"And who disputed that fact?" Ace questioned.
"Maybe you? I told you I’m hungry, but you can’t even show some sort of concern. If you told me you were hungry, I would buy you an entire store."
Ace snickered. "Now you’re going to guilt trip me?"
"No, I’m just going to show—"
"I know!" Fay clapped.
They both turned to her at the same time.
"Don’t you think that’s a broad statement to make, darling? What do you know?"
"We could go to that restaurant. The finger food one."
Ace, who had already planned to spend some alone time with Fay, was already shaking his head in disagreement.
"That’s brilliant, Fay! You’re brilliant! I knew from the first time I met you that you’re an Angel. I’ve never been proven wrong before."
Ace threw him a glare, wishing he could wipe off that proud grin on his face.
"It’s settled then. Right Ace?" Fay turned to stare at him.
The angry expression on his face quickly vanished as he forced a smile. "Are you sure you just don’t want to go home? Believe it or not, Landon is a big boy. He can take care of himself. It’s just that sometimes, he’s kind of an attention whore."
"Mind your words, Ace. Fay has said we should go to a restaurant. Are you going to refuse your wife?" He drew closer to her, and stopped. "Look at this beauty. Look at her face," he said, pointing at her face.
Fay chuckled, loving the banter between the both of them.
"You’re really enjoying this, aren’t you?" He asked through his teeth.
"I don’t know what you’re talking about." He shrugged.
"You’re still driving with Cam though," he said, finally relenting.
"I don’t mind that. As long as we’re going to a restaurant, anything’s fine with me. Thank you for supporting me, pretty fay."
He began walking towards his car, and even threw them a salute from behind.
"That bastard!" Ace muttered under his breath, but the frown wiped off his face as soon as Fay turned to face him.
"Are you ready?" He asked.
She nodded, and went to the other side of the car.
He started the car, and drove out first.
Fay sat with her hands clutched on her laps. There was something bothering her mind, but she didn’t know how to begin to relay it to him.
"Do you want me to turn up the AC?" He asked as if reading her thoughts, and seeing how uncomfortable she was.
"It’s fine. But I wanted to ask what you got."
"Ah, the bet! Are you ready to lose?"
She laughed. "If I lose, I lose."
"Nah. From my experience, women say that but do the opposite when they lose."
"Experience from Reign?" She asked before it clicked in her brain the consequences of such questions.
Memories returned, and an awkward silence ensued.
Reign and other women were still sensitive topics that neither wanted to be brought up. Fay especially couldn’t stop beating herself up for mentioning that name. But it couldn’t be helped.
In reality, Reign was still very much haunting them.
"Reign hasn’t contacted me in a while. My guess is she discovered her whole claim is a lie, and is nursing her wounds," he said after several minutes of silence.
"What does that change?" He whispered silently.
"Everything Fay," he said. "Everything."
