THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY
Chapter 126: HAUNTING TUNE

Chapter 126: HAUNTING TUNE

Fay was walking towards her room when a sound stopped her dead in her tracks.

She turned her head towards the direction it was coming from, and her face contorted as recognition passed through her eyes.

She had heard that tune somewhere. It was just in the surface of her memory, but she couldn’t grab it, and make herself remember.

Her feet started to move forward. She had drawn closer to Ace’s room when she snapped out of it.

She whipped her head to the side, and there was the door to his room. His scent was heavy in this part of the house.

An alluring scent that had turned into torture on her poor nostrils.

Taking a deep breath, she turned around, and hurried to her room.

As she slammed the door shut behind her, she fell to the ground, and tried to shut her ears from listening to that tune.

It made her feel good inside. Reminded her of something happy. How could she have these feelings without knowing exactly why she had them?

She was leaning more to seeing a psychologist. Every time it had been mentioned to her in passing, she brushed it aside.

The biggest reason was that she didn’t have the kind of money a psychologist would require.

Another reason was simply because she was scared of what she would discover.

There were just so many things she didn’t understand about her life. Why did she have these random knee jerk experiences?

Why it felt like there was a huge chunk of her life missing.

It wasn’t even a feeling, it was reality. She couldn’t remember anything before she started living with her Aunt. Not her parents, or the kind of life they lived.

The only time she had found enough courage to ask her aunt, she told her they didn’t live in the States. That was it. Nothing else.

If the pain of trying to think about them wasn’t so great it manifested in a physical attack on her chest, she would have tried to find her origins.

But it all circled back to the first point. She never had enough money or courage to see it through.

"Now you do," said that voice that had been speaking to her all day.

Slowly, she lifted her body from the ground, and walked to her closet.

Taking out the nightwear she planned to wear for the night, she peeled off her own clothes she had been secured in all day, and tossed them into the laundry basket.

Totally naked, she walked into the bathroom to take a shower, and further clear her mind.

When she returned, that damn tune was still playing. It still gave her a warm feeling, but also a nostalgic one.

She was sick of hearing it, but no matter what she did, it wouldn’t filter away.

It had to be Ace playing it. Funny how even when he wasn’t actively trying to, he still found a way to irritate her.

Her stomach sang loudly again, after she had changed into her nightwear.

"I’m sorry, but you have to endure through the night. There’s no way we’re eating anything that wicked man bought us. We may as well starve!"

She dropped to her bed, and folded her hands across her body, a mean glare in her eyes.

Because of him, she had only eaten breakfast. If she knew things would turn out this way, she wouldn’t have run away when Alice insisted she got more pancakes.

"I’m so hun—" in the middle of complaining, she remembered what she had said she would do the moment she returned home.

She searched for her phone, and pulled it out.

"There you are," she began to pace as she contemplated if it was right to dial the number or not.

"If you’re still contemplating what to do, maybe you’re not ready to step into the role that would turn you into a worthy competitor amongst Ace’s women."

"There they go," she muttered under her breath as her infamous voices came through.

"She’s not going to switch from who she is to who she hopes to become overnight. Give her a break, and support her, no matter the pace she chooses."

"Do you see me doing otherwise? I will always support her, doesn’t mean I won’t also call her out."

"Well could you call her out, less?"

"Nope, can’t do."

Fay shook her head. Leaving them to argue because she was too exhausted to deal with their bullshit, she held her breath and dialled the number.

Since she was having a spell of impulsive decisions, why not just continue on that track.

It rang just once before the matriarch answered. "My love, is there a reason you’re calling this late into the night? Are you okay?" She asked in a concern filled voice.

She released the breath she held, and braced herself for the awkward conversation that she absolutely had to have with her. "I’m fine. I just needed to speak to you briefly,"

"Sure, tell me what the problem is. Has my grandson sinned against you again? I know he can’t help his mistakes."

"This has nothing to do with your grandson, and everything to do with me."

She would rather not tie any of her feelings to Ace, even though in truth, he was one of the biggest reasons she had taken this decision.

"Alright my dear. Please go ahead."

She returned to her bed, and sat on its edge. Stretching her legs forward, she let out a heavy breath before she began.

"I know I’ve been sceptical about everything in the past. Truth is, for a very long time, I’ve been fine with just being in the shadows. I didn’t mind people walking over him. It’s not like I had any choice, or that I could even defend myself. Meeting your grandson has changed that. I’m in closer proximity to power, and it’s left for me to want it enough to grab it," she paused to ruminate over her words.

The matriarch waited patiently in silence. She knew the girl would come to this point someday. She just didn’t think it would be so soon.

She also couldn’t deny her curiosity on what had led her to finalising her decision. It couldn’t be because she took her to what used to be Glam.

It was the sole reason she believed Ace had everything to do with her decision.

Poor girl had probably seen him mess up again.

Her heart ached for her. To be enamoured by a man who was too blinded by everything around him to see the jewel he had by his side.

Even if she had to tear his heart apart herself and insert Fay into it, she would do it. If it wasn’t Fay, it couldn’t be any other woman.

"I want it. I know I told you before that I was ready, but I mean it this time. I don’t want to feel helpless anymore. I’ve cried more tears than the average human, and I’m just in my early twenties. I don’t have any more tears left to cry, so please tell me you’ll help me."

"But of course, my darling," the matriarch finally spoke again when she was sure Fay had fully bared her heart.

Fay bit her lips in anticipation of her response. So far, she sounded like she could understand her pain. There was no judgement in her words. She was just supportive.

"I’m here to guide you into the best version of yourself. Into a version everyone would adore, because you’re just that adorable. But let’s not forget, they also have to respect you. When there’s respect, and genuine fear, they would think twice of the consequences before hurting you. Even my grandson."

"Thank you so much for believing in me."

"No Fay, thank you for coming into our lives. You’ve changed us for good, and we’re forever indebted to you. Sleep tight, my Angel. When the time comes, you’ll take over the world."

The call ended, and so did the haunting sound. She smiled, feeling more pumped up than ever before.

Placing her phone on the bed, she walked to her dressing table.

She stood, and watched herself in the mirror.

Everyone said she needed to start looking at herself through a positive lens .

That she was beautiful. Her hair wasn’t the devil’s flames but a unique colour. She touched the tips, familiarising herself with its feel.

Then she touched her freckles, which were so close to her dimples.

If it was just her aunt that called her ugly, maybe she was wrong. Maybe she wasn’t ugly.

"You’re not ugly, Fay," she said to herself.

It sounded ridiculous at first, but she repeated it over and over again..

Suddenly, she stopped. She still wasn’t fully a believer, but she knew that this was a step in the right direction.

Turning around, she went to her bed, and laid there for the night.

With the days worth of stress, anger, hurt, hunger and confusion weighing on her mind, she closed her eyes, and allowed the cousin of death to consume her.
