THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY -
Chapter 109: UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF SLEEP
Chapter 109: UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF SLEEP
Ace couldn’t keep his mind from wandering into dangerous territories.
As he sat on his office chair, going through the documents Landon insisted needed his signature, urgently, he couldn’t stop his mind from thinking about what Marilyn had told him.
Fay had every right to ask Cam to get her something to eat. He was her employee, after all. But he had checked his phone, and had not gotten any notifications that would make him believe she had spent from the card.
Although, she did say she was going to pay him back all she spent, when he started to pay her.
As far as he was concerned, he had not paid her a dime yet.
She had to have found the money she gave him to get her the chicken elsewhere.
Or else she asked him to use his money.
It was that singular thought that disturbed him the most.
He had no problem providing for his family. In the world’s eyes, Fay was his family. If she was asking the driver to get her something to eat with his money, it was a sting on his pride.
Not only that, he also just did not want her asking anyone that wasn’t him to get her anything.
The narrowing conclusion of that feeling was what he had tried his hardest to avoid..
Why would he be jealous of his driver of all people? Why would he even be jealous because of Fay?
"What’s going on?" He muttered, slamming the document in his hand on the table.
With two fingers, he stroked his forehead. A slight throbbing had formed from all of that wondering.
Wondering that led to conclusions he wanted nothing to do with.
"Fay. Fay, Fay Fay," he muttered under his breath.
A sudden knock made him jerk into a proper sitting posture.
"It’s Alice, sir Ace. I’m here with your coffee."
"Come in," he sighed.
He had almost forgotten he asked for a coffee. But what took her so long? He wondered.
She stepped in with a tray in her hand.
"Alice, I believe I asked for just coffee. What’s with the tray?" He questioned, even before she set it on his table.
"You didn’t have dinner last night, nor did you have breakfast this morning. And I’m fairly certain you also skipped lunch. I think you should eat something," she said, adorning an innocent smile.
"No Alice," he groaned in protest. "I only need coffee. Why does nobody listen to me anymore?"
"Because we care about you and your health?" A sudden mischievous thought popped up in her head, and she smiled. "Also, Mrs Fay asked that we serve you some chicken from the ones she bought."
He dropped the document he had reached out for, and raised his head to meet her stare. "Fay asked you to give me chicken?"
"Yes. We told her you had not eaten anything in a while, and she was really worried about you. She said to make sure you eat the chicken, or she’ll force it down your throat herself."
He scoffed. "You’re lying. Fay doesn’t even sound like that."
"I was also surprised by how passionate and insistent she was. Forgive me for prying sir, but it seems you two have not really been on good terms recently. Maybe this is her way of making peace."
"Hmmm," he stroked his chin, his brow snapped together in deep thought. Could it be? He wondered.
But why would Fay give him from the chicken Cam bought? Nothing made sense. He thought she wanted to be on her own, so he had let her be.
That and the fact he had messed up immensely, and was too embarrassed to show up in her presence. But if Alice was right, and she was really extending an olive branch, didn’t that make him even more pathetic for not bothering to reach out first?
"Also, are you seriously going to eat the chicken another man bought for your woman," he froze for a few seconds as that thought surfaced in his head.
"My woman? Fay isn’t my woman!" he instantly rebuked the thought.
Things were getting too strange, too fast. All of these feelings and emotions, creeping up from God knows where.
"Alice, could you please leave me alone?"
"Do you promise to eat?" She asked stubbornly.
He rolled his eyes. "I will. Now leave."
"Okay sir. I’ll tell Mrs Fay you’re very grateful, and that you send your love."
"No!" He said a little too quickly for her liking.
"Did I say or do something wrong, sir?" She asked, confused by his outburst.
"Don’t tell Fay anything. I’ll talk to her, and thank her myself."
"Oh," she said in a suspicious tone. She wasn’t even planning to tell her anything. Not when she had made up the lie to get him to eat. But his reaction just proved her suspicion. There was something strange about their relationship.
"I just want her to hear my gratitude from my lips, that’s all," he added, when he heard the suspicion in her voice.
"Enjoy your meal sir." She gestured with a zipped mouth, and walked out of the room.
Ace took a deep breath when the door closed behind him. His gaze went to the tray, and found there was quite a lot on it.
But the chicken was the centerpiece. It was crispy, and juicy. Inviting in every which way. And it pissed him off.
He shouldn’t want something another man bought for Fay. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t see Cam as an employee, and not a man in this situation.
It made him want to summon the man into his office, and tell him to never buy his wife a thing again.
"I’ll end up just looking like a fool," he whispered.
Eyeing the plate, he tossed it to the side, and focused on the other food on the tray.
Hours later, Alice returned to clear the table. She didn’t speak much when she saw she had emptied the plate. She only smiled, and exited the room.
As she shut the door behind her, he opened an empty drawer, and stared at the chicken he had wrapped in tissue paper sitting idly.
He tried his best, but he just couldn’t bring himself to eat it.
Closing the drawer, after making a mental note to dispose of the chicken when he was done, he returned to work.
Few hours later, he was finally done, and ready to crash out.
With sleep induced eyes, he found his way out the door, and began walking dazedly towards his room.
He kept walking, and walking, but it didn’t feel like he had reached his room yet.
As he took another step, he crashed into someone. The first thing he perceived was a sweet fragrance.
"Fay," he breathed out in a slumbery voice.
"Ace," she reached out to steady him. "Are you sleepwalking?" She asked when she didn’t smell alcohol, rather his masculine scent.
"Nah, I’m awake. Just a little sleepy," he said, and gestured with his hand.
She chuckled at the childishness he was displaying.
"Where are you headed to then?" She asked, her hands still holding him from falling.
"To my room of course."
"I’m pretty sure this is the direction of my room."
"Oh."
"Yeah," she giggled. "Come with me, I’ll take you to your room."
He followed after her like an obedient child, letting her lead the way.
"Your friend came to see you. The doctor."
"Yeah, Leighton. She’s asleep right now. We talked way past midnight, and unfortunately couldn’t return home. I hope it’s okay that she’s spending the night?"
"Of course it is. I’m glad it’s her and not the other doctor," he said in a slurry voice.
She was about to question what he was talking about when it hit her. He was referring to Alexander.
"Why would Alexander come see me?" She opened the door, and guided him in.
His room was usually dark, but thankfully, he had left the light on. It made it easy to locate his bed.
"Well, because he likes you," he said, plopping on the bed.
"Is that such a bad thing?" She asked, standing beside him. She knew she was taking advantage of how tired he was to get answers, but she couldn’t help being curious.
"No. He’s a man. He can see how gorgeous you are. Question is, do you like him?"
"How can I like another man, when I’m a married woman?"
"It’s not a real marriage."
"I honor my vows, despite the facts. Unlike some other people."
"Ha!" He laughed throatily, the sound coming out heavily sexy.
Fay shifted uncomfortably, as she watched his head move back and forth.
"I didn’t think you’d be mad about the Reign situation. I’m glad you are."
"You’re glad you cheated?"
"No, Fay. I’m glad you’re mad I cheated."
"I can’t do this–" she turned around ready to leave, but he pulled her back with much more force than intended.
She stumbled, and fell right on his lap. "Stay, Fay. Please," he said, and began sniffing her hair.
