Chapter 125: Chapter 125: Who Dares to Humiliate Ivy River

"Congratulations, Isabella, you’ve finally got a promotion! Did you get a raise too? Quick, tell us."

"Why doesn’t this kind of good thing happen to me? If I’d known, I would’ve hung around Ivy River more; maybe I’d be promoted by now."

A young nurse interrupted coldly, "What do you mean by that? Isabella sincerely followed Ivy River, so why does it sound different coming from you?"

"I’m not wrong, am I? We all know personnel changes are announced at the start or end of the month, but now it’s mid-month. Would she have gotten promoted without Ivy River’s connection?"

The young nurse got anxious, "You’re just saying sour grapes because you can’t have them. You don’t work hard and complain about those who do. People like you deserve to be a junior nurse forever!"

"I’m not going to stoop to your level."

The troublemaking nurse walked away, muttering curses, and then noticed Ivy River getting up to leave.

Continuing would be no good for her.

Isabella was still in a daze.

A phone was placed in front of her, showing the latest personnel changes announcement from the Medical University.

"Isabella, come back to your senses and look at this announcement."

Isabella snapped back and stood up.

She ended up bumping right into Ivy River.

Ivy River laughed, "Why so flustered?"

Isabella looked at her, not speaking, tears welling up in her eyes.

Ivy River patted her head, "Why cry? Are you unhappy being my assistant?"

Isabella shook her head.

"If you’re not upset, then why cry? Don’t feel pressured. I’ve seen your file; you’ve been here for three years without a promotion. It’s about time."

Isabella’s tears flowed, "Thank you, Director River."

Ivy River wiped her tears and comforted her.

"Don’t think this is out of pity; it’s what you deserve. You’re diligent. Also, don’t think being my assistant is easy; it might be tougher than before. Are you prepared?"

"Behave, don’t have any mental burden."

Isabella nodded, "Thank you, Director River! I will work hard and not embarrass you!"

"Good, then move out. You’re not a junior nurse anymore, so don’t occupy the cramped nurse station space."

Ivy River pointed to the small meeting room next to her, signaling her to move.

Isabella said sheepishly, "I still help them at work when I’m not busy."

Most of the young nurses still had a good relationship with kind Isabella.

Seeing her embarrassed, they began to help her move.

Ivy River stood by watching.

Her eyes were fixed on the elevator, not knowing what she was looking for.

Before long, Evelyn King came out of the elevator.

Ivy River immediately spoke, "Oh, the model worker Director King is over two hours late today. Do you not want this month’s perfect attendance?"

Evelyn King listened to her sarcastic tone and felt unlucky.

"I left the hospital close to ten last night. It’s normal to come in a bit late today."

Ivy River raised an eyebrow, "Going by that logic, surgeons, emergency, and internal medicine doctors should never work overtime. If they do, it guarantees they’ll be late the next day, but what about the patients?"

"First thing in the morning, Ivy River, are you deliberately causing trouble?"

Evelyn King looked displeased.

Ivy River shook her head, "No, just showing some concern for Director King. Did you sleep well last night?"

"What’s it to you?"

Ivy River smiled, "Of course it matters. You need a good rest to sincerely apologize to me. Don’t forget our bet."

"I handled two hundred patients yesterday. Why should I apologize to you?"

Her confident tone thoroughly amused Ivy River.

"Sister, you’re funny. Yesterday afternoon, I helped you see several dozens of patients, even by counting time, I was earlier than you."

Evelyn King rolled her eyes, "Did I ask you to help me?"

"Didn’t Lewis Chadwick explain it to you yesterday?"

"No."

"Alright, then let me waste my breath explaining it to you."

Ivy River spoke forcefully, "I wasn’t helping you by seeing those patients. I didn’t want them waiting too long in order to protect the Medical University’s reputation. Helping you? Do you deserve it?"

Evelyn King was about to say something when Ivy River cut her off coldly.

"If I hadn’t seen those patients yesterday, you wouldn’t have finished until the early morning. They were all elderly uncles and aunties; it doesn’t take a genius to know I did it out of sympathy for them."

Ivy River mocked mercilessly.

"You’ve said all the nice things." Evelyn King shot back.

Ivy River nodded, looking calm, "Yes, you commend my good speech, and I’m pleased, but now you can start your apology."

Evelyn King ignored her, heading straight to the office.

Ivy River, seeing this, didn’t bother talking more.

She followed her.

Ivy River strode into Evelyn King’s office, lips gently parting.

"You just got up; your mind isn’t clear yet. I’ll give you half an hour to think."

Saying that, she lowered her gaze and started playing with her phone, ignoring Evelyn King.

Evelyn King frowned at her, "Ivy River, what’s the point of doing this? Why insist on arguing who’s right?"

Ivy River was silent, ignoring her.

"Seriously, what are you trying to do? We’re all colleagues and frequently run into each other. Don’t you find it embarrassing?"

"No."

Ivy River’s voice was soft, with no emotion.

But the office door was open, and it was near the nurse station.

So everyone heard clearly.

"Ivy River, are you insane?"

Ivy River’s expression changed suddenly, raising her eyes to stare at Evelyn King, her demeanor becoming icy.

Evelyn King felt her imposing presence, swallowed nervously, "Ivy River, don’t think you can do whatever you want just because you have backing; there’s always someone better."

Ivy River snorted derisively, "Evelyn King, you have half an hour: make up your mind and come out to apologize."

"Ivy River, you really make me sick. Now I understand why Edwin Blake divorced you. A woman like you, with such disgraceful tricks, could never win over President Blake’s heart."

Ivy River nodded, "Go on."

Evelyn King had said extremely hurtful things, yet surprisingly, Ivy River was unaffected, her skin as thick as a city’s walls.

She was so angry her whole body trembled.

Ivy River’s gaze swept over Evelyn King’s face, "Since you’re shameless, I won’t spare you any face."

With that, she stood up, grabbed Evelyn King, and dragged her out.

Evelyn King struggled hard, but it was useless.

"I really underestimated you; you have such strength after all."

Ivy River coldly laughed, forcefully throwing her onto the corridor floor.

"Is admitting your medical skills aren’t as good as mine that difficult?"

Evelyn King didn’t speak, continuously checking the time.

Suddenly.

Ding—

The elevator arrived.

Evelyn King immediately mocked, "Ivy River, you really are shameless saying such things. No wonder President Blake didn’t want you."

"Who says Ivy River is unwanted? Let me see who’s been insulting her."

Everyone immediately looked towards the elevator.

Evelyn King was dumbfounded upon seeing the newcomer.
