Chapter 72: My Little Temper, Because I Love You
Chapter 72: Chapter 72: My Little Temper, Because I Love You
He had always known what this woman wanted, but he couldn’t give it to her.
Before Melanie Carpenter’s father, he had sworn an oath to marry Melanie and care for her for the rest of his life!
He was a man, and a man could not break his sworn word.
"I’ll promise you anything, except for breaking off my engagement with Melanie!" Adrian Desmond’s answer was the same as always. Even though Sienna Johnson had anticipated he would say this, she still felt a pang of heartache.
Because she had developed feelings for this man, she cared whether his love was whole, and that was why he had the power to hurt her.
"Adrian, let’s just be courteous to each other from now on!"
She’d rather have nothing than settle for less. If she couldn’t get it, she didn’t want it!
"What do you mean?"
"Don’t be nice to me anymore. I don’t want your half-hearted affection! I know my face attracts men, and I know you like my body. But I’m pregnant now. Can’t you at least take pity on me and not use me to satisfy your physical urges?"
"..."
"You still have your fiancée! I’m pregnant now. Send me back to the island and let your fiancée take care of your... physical needs!"
Adrian’s face had turned completely black. Just from the sharp line of his profile, Sienna could tell he was in a foul mood. However, Sienna was in no state to soothe him; she felt just as wretched.
"Now that I’m pregnant, it’s inconvenient for me to attend to you. Until you send me back to the island, I’ll sleep in the guest room!" Without waiting for Adrian’s reply, she turned and walked out.
"Mai, I’m in charge here! You don’t get to say ’no’!"
Sienna faltered for a moment, then strode resolutely away without a backward glance.
Behind her, Adrian smashed something.
「...」
Inside the room, it was quiet, so quiet that Adrian could hear his own heartbeat. THUMP. THUMP. He slumped onto the bed, rubbing his face wearily. The thought of that headstrong woman, Sienna, made his brow furrow deeply.
Knowing Sienna’s temperament, if he didn’t yield to her wishes, she’d likely never give him a moment’s peace for the rest of his life.
However, Adrian truly couldn’t bring himself to break off his engagement with Melanie Carpenter.
Housekeeper Mr. Lucas knocked on Adrian’s door, his expression panicked as he reported, "Sixth Master, terrible news! Madam... she’s left!"
Adrian shot to his feet. "Left? Where did she go?"
"Madam said she’s going back to the island!"
Seeing Adrian’s mingled worry and fury, Mr. Lucas quickly added, "The bodyguards are with her, Sixth Master. Madam will be safe."
"That damn woman! Will she ever stop causing trouble?!" Adrian seethed.
Adrian had a bad feeling, a sense that something was about to happen.
Adrian’s perception of danger had always been acute, and this very sensitivity now amplified his unease. These were critical times; he feared his enemies might target Sienna.
Adrian didn’t dare waste a second, jumping into his car and speeding after her.
Damn it! Even if you want to go back, you can’t just run off in the middle of the night! Don’t you realize how dangerous that is?! After chasing for some time without spotting Sienna’s car, Adrian’s initial fury had completely transformed into gnawing worry.
His phone rang. Adrian answered with one hand. It was one of Sienna’s bodyguards. "Sixth Master, bad news! Madam... she’s been kidnapped!"
Adrian’s mind reeled as if struck. After a moment of blank shock, he saw his car hurtling out of control towards the median strip. He slammed on the brakes, wrenching the car to a halt just in time. "What did you say? Say that again!"
BANG! A gunshot echoed from the other end, then... silence.
"Mai? Where is Mai?"
"..."
"Useless fools!"
All Desmond family cars were equipped with a location tracking system. Adrian had been tracking the car Sienna was in. Now, it had stopped. The small red dot on the tracking display blinked insistently.
Adrian’s intuition screamed that something was terribly wrong.
He drove at breakneck speed, quickly leaving the bodyguards’ car far behind.
In the trailing bodyguards’ car, Walter Klein watched Adrian’s death-defying driving. He’d nearly caused several accidents, and Walter broke out in a cold sweat for him.
"Faster! Keep up!" Walter Klein yelled, all thoughts of his own safety forgotten.
When they reached the scene, they were horrified. Bodyguards’ corpses lay on the ground. The car Sienna had been in was spattered with blood, its door hanging open. A glance was enough to tell what had transpired.
"Sixth Master!"
Adrian leaped out of his car, his eyes wild as he stared at the abandoned vehicle.
"Sixth Master, it could be an ambush!" Walter Klein warned, drawing his gun and remaining vigilant. But Adrian, heedless of the potential danger, strode directly towards the black car.
Just as Adrian reached the car, his hand about to touch it, he reacted instantly, throwing himself backward and yelling, "Get down!"
BANG! The car behind him exploded violently. Everyone dove for cover as shrapnel flew and the flames from the blast ignited some of the nearby corpses.
After the explosion subsided, Walter Klein, ignoring the danger, rushed to Adrian, who was lying on the ground. "Sixth Master, are you alright?"
The back of Adrian’s shirt was shredded, his skin beneath a bloody mess. If not for his swift reaction, he wouldn’t have escaped with such relatively minor injuries—he could have been killed. The realization sent a chill of fear through Walter Klein.
"I’m fine..."
Adrian scrambled to his feet, looking somewhat battered. He turned to look at the car, which was now fiercely ablaze. The fire was so intense that in the blink of an eye, the vehicle was reduced to a burnt-out metal skeleton.
"Sixth Master, was Madam in the car?" Walter Klein asked, unaware of what Adrian might have seen when he approached it.
"She’s not in there!" Adrian’s gaze swept the area. All the bodyguards he had assigned to Sienna were dead. Sienna herself was gone, vanished without a trace.
Who on earth could have done this? Walter Klein was utterly baffled.
Adrian’s expression was grim, his eyes glinting with a cold, venomous light. "Have any new, suspicious individuals been to the house recently?"
Having served Adrian for so long, Walter Klein instantly grasped his meaning. "Sixth Master, you suspect a mole within the household?"
"I’m not certain," Adrian replied, his voice tight. "But don’t you find it too coincidental? Mai running off today was entirely on a whim. Who could have known her movements with such precision to set an ambush here?"
"Madam doesn’t have any enemies here. Could it be Maxwell Bradford?" Walter Klein conjectured.
"Investigate!" Adrian commanded, his voice sharp.
"Yes!" Walter Klein responded.
Adrian gritted his teeth, a venomous oath tearing from him. "Get a message to Maxwell Bradford. Tell him if Mai was taken by him, if he dares to harm a single hair on her head, I will personally chop his only son into mincemeat, have it made into buns, and send them over for his dinner!"
"Yes!"
Walter Klein held his breath, scarcely daring to move. He had never seen Adrian exude such overwhelming murderous intent, a terrifying aura that promised slaughter to anyone who crossed him.
