Chapter 65: Chapter 065 Love is Possession, Love is Jealousy
"Of course."
"Are there really men like that?"
Sienna Johnson thought of Drew Rafael, her knight in shining armor during her teenage years, the man she had dreamed of marrying... but now, where was her "Drew"?
Drew Rafael was an illegitimate child, taken back home by his father. Was he living a good life?
Not everyone who returned to their birth parents found happiness; she certainly hadn’t. She would rather live with her adoptive parents than return to the Johnson Family.
"What is he like? Tell me quickly," Selena Robertson asked with interest.
Which young girl didn’t dream of romance?
"He is a very, very good person. He’d bring me all sorts of delicious food and fun things. When others bullied me, he’d protect me, and he also said..."
A light smile played on her lips, making her already stunning face seem to glow with a soft radiance. Adrian Desmond felt that Sienna’s beauty at this moment was breathtaking.
Her voice became soft and slow, as if she feared that any carelessness would shatter the beautiful memories, pulling him out of them.
"What did he say?"
"He said..." Sienna’s words stopped abruptly. That question hadn’t been asked by Kiki. Sienna turned her head and saw Adrian Desmond, who had appeared in the room at some point. How much had he heard?
"Adrian? When did you get back? Didn’t you say you’d be home late tonight?" Sienna asked, her tone casual.
"Sixth Master!" Upon seeing Adrian, Selena Robertson quickly composed herself, her smile vanishing. She picked up the fruit plate and tactfully left the room.
"What did he say?" Adrian pressed.
Naturally, Sienna was unwilling to discuss Drew Rafael with Adrian.
She changed the subject. "Did everything go well today?"
Sienna sat in a rocking chair by the window. The chair swayed gently. Adrian walked over, squatted down, and pressed his ear to her stomach. "Son, were you well-behaved today?" he asked.
Ever since this man had learned she was pregnant, he repeated this ritual every day upon returning home. Sienna found it amusing. "He’s still just an undeveloped embryo. There won’t be any fetal movement yet."
"He’s not an embryo; he’s my son! Adrian Desmond’s son!"
"Adrian, if it turns out to be a girl, I’ll tell her exactly how much you wanted a son, and how little you wanted a daughter."
Adrian didn’t get angry, just smiled at her. "You’re just trying to sow discord!"
"Sow discord? Look at you, going on and on about ’son, son.’ What if it’s a girl?"
"It must be a son!" he declared with certainty.
Sienna glared at him, no longer wanting to engage. He wants a son? Fine, I’ll have a daughter just to spite him.
"I’ve never failed to get what I want! This time I want a son, and it will definitely be a son!"
Such an arrogant tone! So infuriating!
"Adrian, life doesn’t always go your way, you know. Nine times out of ten, it won’t. You can’t always get what you want."
"...It’s fine. If we don’t have a son this time, we’ll try again next time. We’ll eventually have a son," Adrian said magnanimously.
Sienna retorted irritably, "Who wants to have more children with you? If you want to, go have them with Miss Carpenter!"
Adrian leaned in, looking into her eyes. "You little pot of jealousy. If I really had children with Melanie, who knows what kind of scene you’d make."
"You insist on marrying Miss Carpenter, so having children with her is just a matter of time. So what if I’m a ’pot of jealousy’? So what if I’m jealous? Can that change the Sixth Master’s decision?" Sienna argued, her anger rising.
"Melanie is a wonderful person. If you spent more time with her, you’d understand..."
He was trying to persuade her to coexist peacefully with his primary wife, clearly intending to enjoy the company of both women. Sienna couldn’t help but counter, "Adrian, if you can peacefully coexist with my lovers, then I can peacefully coexist with your Fiancee!"
Adrian was an intensely possessive man, especially regarding his women; other men couldn’t even lay a finger on them. "...If I find out you’re fooling around with another man, I’ll chop him into mincemeat and feed him to the dogs!"
"How impressive, Sixth Master!" Sienna scoffed, then stood up and walked away.
Adrian rose quickly, taking a few hurried steps to embrace her from behind. He inhaled her scent, unwilling to let her go. "You’re already pregnant. Can we please stop fighting?" His voice softened involuntarily.
"Adrian, I’m not some magnanimous or virtuous woman. If you dare marry another woman, I dare find a lover! For every woman you sleep with, I’ll sleep with a man!" Sienna was a headstrong woman; she would never learn the demure ways of a gentle lady.
"Mai, are you even a woman? How can a woman say such things?"
A cold sneer touched Sienna’s lips. "Adrian, I am not a woman from Abyanabad! So, your quaint ideas about ’three wives and four concubines’ can go to hell!"
"..."
"If you are unkind to me, don’t blame me for being unjust in return!"
Adrian’s brow furrowed deeply. The woman before him was, in fact, harder-hearted than any man. Their different upbringings and values created an unbridgeable gap; he couldn’t reason with her, and she couldn’t understand him. Adrian found himself unable to get through to Sienna, and their conversations invariably ended on a sour note.
"...Mai, you’re already my woman, and you’re carrying my child. What more do you want? If we could just get along, it would be better for everyone. Don’t you want our child to have a happy family?" Adrian’s voice was laced with fatigue and helplessness.
"But our family would have an extra woman! A triangle might be the most stable shape in geometry, but it’s disastrous for relationships! A three-person romance is bound to cause problems sooner or later!"
Adrian’s face darkened. He gritted his teeth. "In Abyanabad, even a relationship with ten people wouldn’t be a problem! Mai, you are the problem!"
"Love is possessiveness! It’s jealousy! Do you think those men who marry ten wives are happy? I don’t! Their wives don’t love them at all. If they truly loved their husbands, they would never allow them to marry other women!"
"..."
"...It’s just like how you’d fly into a rage and want to kill someone if you heard I had a lover! Women are human beings, just like men! Jealousy! That emotion is the same for both!"
The deadlock between them, an unbreakable impasse. "I can’t break my promise. I must marry Melanie. Besides, she has no other family left, only me. If I don’t marry her, what will become of her?"
"Then let me go!"
"That’s even more impossible!" Adrian rejected her instantly, without a second thought.
