The Bigshot Married Himself to the Heiress -
Chapter 62: Pregnant
Chapter 62: Chapter 62: Pregnant
The Leviathan. It was on this ship that Sienna Johnson had been rescued and subsequently taken to the island. It was like a nightmare, one that hadn’t ended yet.
"Mai..."
After discussing business, Adrian Desmond stepped out of the cabin and saw a woman standing on the deck, looking at the sea.
"What are you looking at?"
They were passing through Shark Sea, where many sharks swam with their fins visible above the water.
"Do you remember that it was in this sea that I rescued you?"
She remained silent.
"At that time, you were like a poor little kitten, fragile and helpless. I could have taken your life with just a flick of my fingers..."
He stood behind Sienna, who gazed at the azure water without responding. Adrian was growing increasingly unaccustomed to Mai’s current state; he would rather have her arguing and making a fuss with him than being so lifeless.
"Mai, let’s not fight anymore, okay?" he said weakly, gently rubbing his face against hers.
Again, she didn’t respond.
"We’re almost at the pier. Once we get there, we’ll head to the hospital. I’ve already arranged for doctors to examine you."
Adrian hugged her from behind, his chin resting in the crook of her neck, inhaling her scent. He felt increasingly helpless. Adrian, who always liked to have everything under control, found himself powerless against her.
She was an accident in his life, an uncontrollable one.
「Hospital, Psychiatry Department.」
Originally, the plan was for the doctor to visit the Desmond mansion to treat Sienna, but Adrian couldn’t wait and had personally brought Mai.
Dr. Smith performed a full physical examination on Sienna, including a CT scan of her brain, but found no physiological cause for her condition.
Dr. Smith looked at the woman with the vacant expression and said, "Physically, there’s nothing wrong with her. Judging by her state, it seems to be a self-preservation mechanism triggered by immense psychological trauma."
Adrian didn’t understand. "What do you mean by a self-preservation mechanism?"
Dr. Smith explained in simpler terms, "For example, when people encounter something terrifying, they might choose to dissociate. It’s akin to the soul leaving the body, separating from the flesh, leaving only an empty shell behind as a form of self-protection."
Adrian had never believed in such superstitious nonsense and retorted sarcastically, "So, are you suggesting I find some charlatan to perform a soul-summoning ritual?"
Dr. Smith shook his head. "I was merely making an analogy."
Dr. Smith placed his interlocked hands on the desk, looked at Adrian, and asked, "She has numerous wounds on her body—snakebites. If you want me to help her recover, you’d best tell me everything she’s been through."
Adrian was unwilling to say.
Dr. Smith glanced at them both and said, "Adrian, did you use snakes to frighten this beautiful girl?"
Adrian subconsciously touched his nose, still unwilling to reveal the truth. Seeing Adrian’s expression, Dr. Smith was certain he must have done such a thing.
"Honestly, Adrian, how can you still be so reckless?"
"She was too disobedient. I just wanted her to be more compliant." Adrian was deeply conflicted. He wanted Sienna to be submissive, but he disliked this catatonic version of her.
"Women are people too," Dr. Smith said, his words as incisive as ever. "As people, they have their own thoughts and ways of acting. It’s dogs that are simply obedient."
"So, what do we do now?" Adrian asked.
"Psychotherapy, and then we wait for her to recover gradually."
"How long will that take?"
"That’s hard to say. Some recover in a few weeks; for others, it can take a lifetime of treatment. You have important business to attend to, and it’s inconvenient for you to have her with you. Let her stay at my place. Your Aunt Monica can look after her."
"No!"
Dr. Smith looked up, pushing his large glasses further up the bridge of his nose. "Why not?"
"I wouldn’t feel at ease."
"She’s only in danger when she’s with you."
Adrian stood up and pulled the dazed Sienna to her feet. "You draw up the treatment plan, and I’ll bring her over."
Dr. Smith glanced at the beautiful Sienna, then back at Adrian. "She is very beautiful, enough to make any man’s heart flutter. But Melanie is your fiancée. You can’t neglect Melanie because of this woman."
Adrian found him long-winded and said impatiently, "I know, I know. Is the prescription ready? I have things to do; I don’t have time to dither with you."
"I can’t prescribe any medication for her right now!"
"Why not?"
"Because she’s pregnant!" Seeing Adrian’s stunned expression, Dr. Smith asked in surprise, "She’s pregnant. You couldn’t possibly not know, could you?"
Adrian stood there dumbfounded, his expression utterly blank. After a long moment, he asked uncertainly, "What did you just say?"
"Didn’t you hear me? She’s pregnant. It’s still very early, only about three or four weeks along."
Three or four weeks?
He had only returned to the island three weeks ago. If Sienna was four weeks pregnant, the child definitely wasn’t his. The thought of her infidelity instantly diminished his joy.
"Is she three weeks pregnant or four?"
He had to know if this child was his!
"I’m a psychiatrist, not an obstetrician. I can’t be sure!" Dr. Smith stated.
"Then can a paternity test be done?"
Dr. Smith looked at Adrian quizzically. "Why do you want a paternity test?"
"That’s none of your business!"
Dr. Smith was also an intelligent man. A paternity test was, of course, to determine if the child was his. The child was undoubtedly Sienna’s, but whether it was Adrian’s was another matter. Shocked, Dr. Smith asked, "The child in her womb... it couldn’t be... not yours, could it?"
"Stop your wild guessing!"
"If it’s not your child, then whose is it?"
This was a matter of a man’s pride. Adrian, infuriated, snapped, "The child is mine! Stop your damn guessing!"
Dr. Smith’s expression turned grave. "If your father were alive, he would never permit a woman to muddle the Desmond family bloodline."
"The child is mine!" Adrian insisted.
Adrian was shocked, and Sienna was equally stunned. She lowered her head, preventing anyone from seeing the expression in her eyes.
She was pregnant?
It must have been that time Adrian carried her out of the snake room, covered in wounds. That despicable, inhuman monster had taken advantage of her then.
While Adrian worried if the child was his, Sienna’s mind was in even greater turmoil. This child... should she keep it or not?
Escaping alone was already difficult enough. If she had to escape with a child... Sienna felt she would never be able to escape in this lifetime.
But the thought of abandoning her child to escape alone was one Sienna dismissed without a second thought.
She herself had been an orphan, abandoned by her parents. Ever since she was little, she had resolved that if she ever had a child, no matter how poor she was, she would never abandon them.
What should she do now?
Sienna’s heart was in turmoil.
