Chapter 51: Chapter 051: Expressing Feelings through Text Messages

Adrian Desmond wasn’t a man who lacked understanding of human nature; he knew how to read people. So, when Sienna Johnson consistently replied with only one or two words, it was obvious she didn’t want to talk to him.

"Could you say more than just a few words?" He sounded utterly helpless. Even if she wanted to brush him off, she shouldn’t be so blatant about it, at least not so obvious that he could see through it easily.

"Sixth Master, you’re a busy man with many important matters to attend to. I won’t disturb you any further. Goodbye!"

"Mai!" Seeing she was about to hang up, he immediately called her name to stop her. Sienna clearly heard him but still resolutely ended the call.

"Damn it!"

Adrian immediately redialed. Sienna placed her phone on a nearby rock on the ground, enduring her body’s soreness as she began to recall the day’s training routines, move by move. The phone’s ringing became mere background music.

After ringing for about ten minutes, the phone finally fell silent. Sienna paid it no mind.

Tatu approached Sienna with her own phone. "Sister-in-law, Sixth Master called."

Sienna glanced at her phone still on the rock. She found Adrian’s tactic of calling other people’s phones when he couldn’t reach hers truly exasperating.

Sienna felt like hanging up in a fit of pique, but she knew if she dared, Adrian wouldn’t let the matter rest today. "Sixth Master, what do you need?"

Adrian’s mood soured. Anyone treated this way would be upset, let alone someone like him. Ever since he came of age, no one had dared to show him such disrespect.

"Why didn’t you answer my call?"

"That’s Kiki’s phone. I thought the call was for Kiki."

That was clearly just a flimsy excuse!

"From now on, when I call you, you must answer!"

Depends on my mood!

"Did you hear what I said?" Adrian lost control and roared at her.

Sienna frowned and replied, "If I hear it, naturally, I’ll answer."

"When have you ever answered my call on your own initiative?" Adrian was angry, but more than that, he felt wronged.

At this moment, Adrian somewhat regretted whipping Sienna with the clothes. Sienna had a proud and aloof nature; like him, she responded to soft persuasion, not coercion.

"Am I not answering Sixth Master’s call right now?!"

Adrian was rendered speechless by Sienna’s sharp tongue. After a moment’s thought, he realized pressing the issue would make him lose face, so he decided to let it go for now.

Adrian fell silent. Sienna, feeling disgruntled, certainly wasn’t going to speak first. For a while, neither of them said a word. Sienna’s arm grew tired from holding the phone, so she switched to speakerphone and placed it back on the rock, then stood there, consciously relaxing her tense body.

"Mai, are you still there?"

"Yes, is there anything you need, Sixth Master?"

"Are you still angry at me?"

Sienna gave a short laugh and retorted, "Sixth Master, you’re joking. When have I ever been angry at you?"

"Then why don’t you call me by my name? Sixth Master, Sixth Master... Don’t think I don’t know you only call me Sixth Master when you’re angry!" Adrian astutely pinpointed what was on Sienna’s mind.

However, Sienna didn’t bother arguing with him about it. Let him think whatever he wants.

"Say something!"

Sienna was genuinely fed up with him now. "Sixth Master, didn’t you say you were very busy? We’ve been talking for over an hour. Do you really have this much time?"

Adrian was speechless.

"Sixth Master, I think..."

CLICK... This time, it wasn’t Sienna who hung up on Adrian, but Adrian who hung up on Sienna. Sienna looked at her phone and muttered, Don’t call again... Then, quite heartlessly, she pushed all thoughts of Adrian to the back of her mind.

Adrian was genuinely very busy. He had to take care of Melanie Carpenter while also dealing with Maxwell Bradford. Since Maxwell Bradford had dared to try and assassinate his fiancée, Adrian knew that if he didn’t strike back hard, it would only embolden certain people.

Moreover, Adrian wanted to resolve the matters here quickly so he could return to the island and see Mai. He always felt uneasy when she wasn’t under his direct supervision.

"Sixth Master, there’s a flower shop up ahead. Would you like to buy flowers for Miss Carpenter?" Walter Klein asked. After a moment’s thought, he added, "It’s customary to bring flowers when visiting patients in the hospital."

Adrian, who was busy sending a text message, replied without looking up, "Fine."

Adrian used to detest texting, always preferring to call. Recently, however, he had become quite fond of it. Every time he sent a long message, Mai would reply with only one or two words, yet he still felt happy.

--- I ate at an Orienta Restaurant this morning. The Shrimp Dumplings and Wonton Noodles there are delicious. I’ll take you to try them sometime, okay?

--- Okay.

"Sixth Master, what kind of flowers do you want to buy?"

Adrian’s fingers fumbled somewhat as he typed in English — What kind of flowers do you like?

--- Lotus!

"Lotus!"

Walter was speechless.

--- Stop practicing close quarter combat with Xavier. If you want to learn, I’ll teach you when I get back. I was the one who taught Xavier his close quarter combat skills. If you’re going to learn, you should learn from the best. Otherwise, whatever you learn will be substandard.

--- Okay.

Walter parked the car by the flower shop and went in to buy lotus flowers. Sure enough, the shop had many kinds of flowers, but lotus flowers were conspicuously absent. Walter considered it. Adrian had never bought flowers for a woman before, so asking his opinion would be pointless. Thus, Walter took the initiative and bought roses for Miss Carpenter.

Roses were a suitable gift for Melanie Carpenter, Adrian’s fiancée.

Walter returned to the car holding a bouquet of roses. Adrian, with his sharp sense of smell, detected the rich fragrance of the roses. He looked up at Walter in the front passenger seat, his gaze pausing on the roses as he asked, "Do all women like flowers?"

"Yes, there’s no woman who doesn’t like flowers."

"When we head back, help me buy a large bouquet of lotus flowers to take with us."

Walter was speechless again.

The car moved slowly through the streets of Abyanabad, heading towards the hospital where Melanie Carpenter was staying. When Adrian saw that Sienna Johnson hadn’t replied to the several text messages he’d sent, he finally put his phone away.

"Sixth Master, we’re here."

Walter got out of the car, walked over to Adrian’s side, and opened the door for him. Adrian got out and, accompanied by five bodyguards, entered the hospital.

Melanie Carpenter knew Adrian was coming today, so she had applied light makeup and carefully styled her hair. She didn’t want Adrian to see her looking disheveled; she always wanted to present her best self to him.

"Sixth Brother..."

"Sixth Brother..." In the hospital room, besides Melanie Carpenter, there was another young woman. This woman was graceful and petite; she was Bella Ford, Melanie Carpenter’s cousin from her auntie’s side. Bella Ford and Melanie Carpenter had always been very close.

Adrian was the sixth in the Desmond family. Melanie Carpenter called Adrian "Sixth Brother," so Bella Ford followed her lead.

Adrian glanced at Bella Ford and nodded, acknowledging her greeting.

Walter presented the bouquet of roses to Melanie Carpenter and said, "Miss Carpenter, Sixth Master bought these roses for you."

Melanie Carpenter was taken aback. "You... bought me flowers?"
