Chapter 955: Chapter 0955: Father-Daughter Reunion
After dinner, the restaurant owner called everyone down together.
The people who had originally planned to scam money stared at the young man with a white towel on his head and whispered amongst themselves, wondering how he had gotten so lucky.
A million, that is a million yuan!
The young man’s transportation was quite unique, he had come by mule cart.
He brushed his hand over the blanket laid on top of the cart and called for Long Fei and the other two to get on.
Even in the countryside, it was quite rare nowadays to see someone using this kind of transportation.
Liuu Ruyan asked a bit embarrassedly, "Cousin, I still don’t know your name!"
The young man sat at the front, driving the mule cart and said with a smile, "My name is Xu Wei, Xu from Xu Family Gully, Wei from Wei River!"
Liuu Ruyan raised an eyebrow, "My mother’s surname is Wang, not Xu. Why do you call her aunt?"
Xu Wei shook his head, "I don’t know, there are no Wang surnames in Xu Family Gully. While my dad was still alive, he told me to call your dad uncle. Beyond that, I have no idea."
Liuu Ruyan nodded, telling herself that her mother definitely didn’t know Xu Wei’s father.
Otherwise, she wouldn’t have gone so many years without coming here to find him.
These years, Huaxia had developed rapidly.
Every village was connected by concrete roads, and the mule cart didn’t have a hard time on them.
But as they entered Xu Family Gully, it turned into a dirt road.
The mule cart jolted; if it were an ordinary person, they would feel as if their body was about to fall apart after a short time.
The road into the village isn’t really a road, but a path carved out by the villagers on the mountain trail.
Long Fei looked at the distant imposing peaks and asked curiously, "What mountain is that in the distance?"
Xu Wei smiled, "That’s Mount Hua. We’re located to the west of it, just cross over three mountains and you can get there. If you want to go, I can take you, no entrance fee."
"Three mountains?"
Wang Xiaoya clicked her tongue, "How far is that?"
Xu Wei replied, "Not too far, about fifty li of mountain roads, you can make it in a whole day roughly."
Wang Xiaoya and Long Fei exchanged wry glances, thinking better of such a way to dodge admission fees!
Money wasn’t saved, and by the time they would arrive, they would probably be exhausted.
This world was different from the Secret Realm; without the support of Spiritual Energy, walking was very draining.
All the way there, Liuu Ruyan was anxious to see her father, her small hand continuously kneading, unsure of what to say upon meeting him.
She was six when her father left home.
Now, it had already been fifteen or sixteen years.
She didn’t understand why, if her father was still alive, he wouldn’t come back to see her and her mother.
These years, she and her mother had such a hard time; why could her father bear not to care about them.
When they reached halfway down the mountain, the village below came into clear view.
At this time, the sky was darkening.
Blue smoke curled upward; the village nestled against the mountain and water was quite picturesque.
The mountains here weren’t the eroded kind because it is an extension of Mount Hua, so there were still many trees on the mountainside.
A river flowed beneath the village, Xu Wei introduced, "This river comes down from the mountain. There was a heavy rain a few days ago, so the water is a bit high. Usually during the dry season, the river is quite narrow, and it doesn’t flow as rapidly."
Long Fei took a look. The water here likely wound its way into the Jing River.
Eight rivers encompass Chang’an, and this Dragon-Headed Town is also located at the confluence of the Wei River and the Jing River.
All along the way, on one side the river water was clear, and on the other, it was turbid.
Truly a clear distinction between Jing and Wei.
The villagers probably don’t get many outsiders, so when Xu Wei drove his mule cart into the village, a bunch of children cheerfully ran up to follow, shouting at the top of their lungs, "City people have come, city people have come."
Xu Wei felt a little embarrassed as he explained, "Don’t take it the wrong way! Our village doesn’t usually have visitors, so everyone gets really excited when they see an outsider."
Wang Xiaoya smiled as she took out candies from her Storage Ring and distributed some to each of the children.
Girls are great, their Storage Rings are always full of snacks.
Long Fei remembered that Lin Shanshan’s Storage Ring was never without its supply of fries, cookies, and candies.
He, like the children, asked Little Ya for a handful and started eating.
Wang Xiaoya also gave one to Liuu Ruyan, comforting her with a smile, "No need to look so worried, you’ve found your father, you should be a little happier!"
Liuu Ruyan nodded, stuffed the candy into her mouth, and managed to squeeze out a faint smile.
Her emotions were complex, both anticipating and fearing the reunion with her father.
Xu Wei’s house was at one end of the village. As they walked past the little bridge at the village entrance, more men and women who had just returned from the fields began to appear.
They sat clustered outside their houses chatting and, upon seeing Xu Wei driving the mule cart back, all stood up to watch.
A bare-chested young man with equally dark skin came running over with a bowl and chopsticks, shouting urgently at Xu Wei, "Xu Wei, how did it go? Did you bring back your relative?"
Xu Wei reined in the mule, smiling as he beckoned Long Fei and the other two to get out of the cart.
The young man stared at Wang Xiaoya and Liuu Ruyan, his eyes widening in amazement, and he chatter shyly, "Gosh, why do city people all look so nice!"
Xu Wei slapped him on the head, laughing as he introduced them, "Don’t mind him! He’s a good brother of mine, Er Gouzi. He’s the one who told me about your situation. He has a mobile phone and can check the forums; I don’t have one."
Long Fei nodded at Er Gouzi with a smile, recalling the friends from Longjiawan Village.
The two of them led the way, through winding paths and upwards to Xu Wei’s house.
Long Fei had thought his home in Longjiawan Village was modest enough, but seeing Xu Wei’s, he realized how little he had seen of the world.
The house was halfway up the hillside, its walls made of piled stones.
It hardly mattered if they were there or not; they were only half a meter high.
The roof was thatched with straw.
Yes, a thatched house.
In this day and age, it was a surprise to still see such dwellings.
Xu Wei unloaded the cart from behind the mule, led the animal into the courtyard, and tied it up in a wooden enclosure.
Wang Xiaoya, wide-eyed and also from a rural background, found the sight somewhat astonishing, thinking to herself how hard the family’s living conditions must be.
After finishing his tasks, Xu Wei came over and, wiping the sweat from his forehead, cautioned Liuu Ruyan, "Cousin, let me warn you before you meet your dad. Don’t get too excited. He’s been like this for over ten years, and it’s a miracle he has survived till now."
Hearing this, Liuu Ruyan’s heart gave a thump.
She grabbed Long Fei’s arm timidly, looking at Xu Wei with uncertainty.
Long Fei patted her shoulder and supported her waist from behind as they followed Xu Wei into the house.
Inside was a stale smell and only one room.
In the room, there was a table, chairs, and a big kang bed.
On the kang lay a gaunt man who turned his weak gaze towards them as the group entered.
Liuu Ruyan’s eyes locked with his, her mind buzzing, and she looked at Xu Wei, at a loss for what to do.
Xu Wei said, "Cousin, this is your uncle. He’s been paralyzed for more than a decade. He can’t speak, but communication isn’t a problem; he understands everything you say."
He searched through a chest on the kang, pulled out a backpack and handed it to Liuu Ruyan, saying, "This is your uncle’s bag, and inside are his identification papers. Over the years, I’ve written to the address on them, but no one from your side has replied."
Liuu Ruyan took the backpack and she and Long Fei looked through it to find an ID card.
It was one of the old-fashioned IDs, bearing a photo of a man with an extraordinary aura, entirely different from the person now lying on the bed.
The name, Liuu Wenhan.
The name Liuu Ruyan had been saying to herself for more than a decade – she never thought she would find him for real.
