Chapter 848: Chapter 0848: Someone Is Up To Something Big

Long Fei and Li Wenwen stared at the computer, puzzled, when suddenly news came from the hospital.

Ding Xue called, urgently shouting to Long Fei, "Get to the hospital quickly, this student is in bad shape."

Long Fei sprang to his feet, his intuition telling him that this game was no ordinary matter.

He told Li Wenwen to stop researching it for now and to go back to school to wait for his news.

He left the house, not bothering to take a car, and instead used Spatial Law to traverse through the city, arriving at the hospital in just a couple of minutes.

Ding Xue waited for him at the entrance, and when she saw him, she looked as if she had seen a ghost.

She stuttered in surprise, "How, how did you get here so fast?"

Long Fei urged, "Stop wasting time, let’s go see that young man."

That short distance had cost him a considerable amount of spiritual power.

Usually, he relied on cars to get around, knowing well that spending spiritual power came at a high price.

Fast, yes, but costly too.

They reached the doors of the emergency room, where the doctor, shaking his head, was pushing the student out.

Director Wang Mingli, having heard of Long Fei’s arrival, came to greet him personally.

He said to Long Fei in surprise, "Is this young man your friend?"

Long Fei shook his head, instructing the doctors to take the student into a ward.

Ding Xue introduced to the director, "This student is an important witness for the police. How is his condition?"

The director brought over the attending doctor.

The attending doctor, with cold sweat on his brow, said, "It’s strange. I’ve been a doctor for thirty years and have never seen such a bizarre illness. His Essence Blood seems to be evaporating continuously; the patient has lost over ten pounds in moments. We’ve given him nutritional fluids, but they have no effect."

"Not this again!"

Ding Xue’s brow furrowed tightly as she rushed into the ward.

Long Fei pulled the white sheet over the young man and sighed, "We were a step too late."

Ding Xue exclaimed, "He’s dead?"

Long Fei nodded.

"How is that possible? When you called me earlier, I saw he was fine."

Ding Xue was full of astonishment.

Long Fei, massaging his forehead, said, "It seems we’ve both been mistaken. Those who died earlier weren’t killed by a Demon; they might have been struck by some kind of evil magic. And this must be happening all over the country. You should have the higher-ups confirm this immediately; this is no simple matter."

The young man’s death was identical to that of the officer’s at the station, both having died from evaporated Essence Blood.

Long Fei had previously used silver needles and had apparently stabilized the young man’s Essence Blood.

But once in the hospital, his Essence Blood dispersed again.

Long Fei couldn’t make heads or tails of this eerie sorcery; solving this puzzle would likely require starting with that game Ding Xue had just mentioned.

All those young people had ended up like this because of playing that game.

He pondered whether this game could be draining people’s Essence Blood.

When he and Li Wenwen were tinkering with it earlier, the game even managed to automatically distinguish whether the person playing was the registered user.

Despite Long Fei’s extensive experience, this situation proved to be a real challenge.

Ding Xue made several phone calls, her brow furrowed tight as she looked at the body on the bed, her mind in turmoil.

A young life, joyfully sent to school by his parents, and now to die inexplicably—how could one possibly explain this to the bereaved family?

The two left the hospital, and with Ding Xue’s mood heavily clouded, she took Long Fei to the internet cafe where the incident had occurred.

The jeep with the siren pulled up in front of the internet cafe, and the manager immediately broke out in cold sweat.

He hurried out to greet the police, and upon seeing Long Fei, asked in surprise, "Are you a police officer?"

Long Fei shook his head, slapped Ding Xue’s shoulder, and introduced, "I’m not, she is."

Ding Xue took out her police badge for the manager to see, and had the junior officer behind her take down his statement.

The manager was eager to find out, "Has something happened to one of the students?"

The officer taking the statement didn’t know what had happened and told him to mind his own business.

Ding Xue instructed him to clear out the students inside because there had been two murder cases here in succession. After reporting to her superiors, to prevent another student from becoming a victim, the police decided to temporarily seal the place.

The internet cafe manager complained, "Officer, it’s not that I let them play games, it’s that they don’t take their own health seriously. You ask this young man, I am very opposed to this."

Ding Xue scolded, "Enough talk, if something happens in your internet cafe, just wait for the victim’s family to come after you!"

She had Long Fei take her to the computer where the incident had occurred to have a look.

The students complained as they left one by one, quietly mumbling to the police that they were all over eighteen and had every right to enter the internet cafe.

Some had just been in the middle of a team match when the power in the cafe suddenly went out, and they were so angry they smashed their headphones.

In the vast internet cafe, only Li Wenwen remained.

After Long Fei had left, he looked at her worriedly and said, "Didn’t I tell you to wait for me at school?"

Li Wenwen hung her head and said weakly, "I just wanted to help you."

Long Fei lectured, "That game is dangerous, don’t ever try playing it when I’m not around, do you understand?"

Li Wenwen nodded, intimidated by his sternness into not daring to look up.

Ding Xue stopped Long Fei and pulled Li Wenwen aside to ask, "Wenwen, did you just play that game?"

Li Wenwen nodded, "Yes, I think I’ve figured out how to register for the game?"

She took out a hard drive and said to Long Fei and Ding Xue, "Brother Long, Sister Xue, that game is stored on this. I just looked, and there’s information about the game on it. Each hard drive is specially customized, meant for one game player only. It seems to have a function for automatically identifying the gamer. If it detects that the gamer is someone else, it will trigger the auto-shutdown mode. Upon closer investigation, I think there’s a fingerprint recognition system on the hard drive. You must press your fingerprint after a certain period of time to verify your identity."

When Long Fei saw the hard drive, it was enveloped in a layer of blood energy, so he quickly took it from Li Wenwen’s hands.

His spiritual power swept over the hard drive, getting just a glimpse.

Suddenly, the hard drive emitted a puff of green smoke which he quickly contained within a transparent barrier.

With a loud Zhen, the hard drive exploded inside the transparent barrier.

It blasted apart like a hot water bottle exploding, the palm-sized hard drive shattering into pieces.

Li Wenwen and Ding Xue were stunned, as if everything was being covertly manipulated by someone.

"What a master!"

Long Fei was also surprised in his heart, he had just used his spiritual power to examine the hard drive when he triggered its self-destruct mechanism.

Ding Xue anxiously asked, "Is there a ghost in this hard drive?"

Long Fei said, "Yes, someone is definitely up to something, and it’s no small matter."

In his heart, he felt as though he was on the verge of guessing something.

But without concrete evidence, he didn’t want to speculate wildly.

Shortly after, a call came in from the police station.

Ding Xue rushed back to report to her superiors, and she asked Long Fei to keep in contact with her at all times.

After she left, Long Fei and Li Wenwen also left the internet cafe.

The internet cafe manager grabbed Long Fei and shouted, "Buddy, you’ve got to help me out! You saw it just now, they’re the ones who wanted to play, I was against it from the start!"

Long Fei patted his shoulder, advising him to just cooperate with the police work and stay calm.

He was still in the dark, his mind full of doubts.
