Chapter 847: Chapter 0847: Playing A Deadly Game
Long Fei shook his head, thinking to himself that these mortals could never understand his greatness.
If it wasn’t for their safety, he wouldn’t want to be undercover here.
After finishing a cup of milk tea and seeing no leads, he was preparing to leave with Li Wenwen.
Suddenly, there was a commotion in a corner of the internet cafe.
Someone shouted, "Quick, call 120, this guy’s in bad shape."
A crowd gathered around to watch, and the internet cafe manager hurried over to check.
"There’s really a problem!"
Long Fei immediately got up and went over; upon closer inspection, a guy was foaming at the mouth, his eyes darkened, his body withered, rolling on the ground unconscious.
The cafe manager came over, pulled out his cell phone, and immediately dialed 120, cursing, "This kid is really looking for trouble. I told him this morning to go home and rest for a couple of days. Look at him, he’s been here for a week, not sleeping day or night, he’s really worked himself sick!"
Long Fei told the bystanders to step aside, and he squatted down to check the student’s pulse.
The internet cafe manager asked excitedly, "Are you a doctor?"
"Yes, from the medical department!"
Long Fei lied and made up an identity.
The internet cafe manager anxiously asked, "Is he okay?"
"It’s nothing serious, just hypoglycemia caused by lack of sleep. He’ll be fine with some IV fluids at the hospital."
Long Fei secretly infused the young man with some Essential Qi.
His pale face regained some color instantly, and he opened his eyes and asked, "What’s going on?"
The cafe manager breathed a sigh of relief and repeatedly said to the student, "Buddy, I’ve called the hospital for you. You should lie down there for a couple of days and stop causing trouble here."
The student frowned and shook his head, "No, I’m about to find the treasure, I’m about to get rich. I can’t go to the hospital, just leave me alone."
He struggled to get up.
But just as he stood, he thudded back onto the ground.
Long Fei shook his head, thinking this kid really didn’t take his life seriously!
He had just infused the kid with some Essential Qi, and when the kid exerted himself, his Qi and blood dispersed, and he fainted again.
He pretended to search his pocket and pulled out a box of silver needles, using the most traditional method to stabilize the kid’s breath.
There were other methods, but since he was posing as a student, he couldn’t show off too much.
Soon, an ambulance arrived.
Two nurses and a doctor came and, greeted by Long Fei and the internet cafe manager, took the kid onto the ambulance.
The cafe manager wiped the sweat from his forehead, handed a cigarette to Long Fei, and gratefully said, "Brother, I really owe you one today. The internet fees are on me today. Later, go to the front desk and I’ll have them refund your money; you can stay as long as you want."
He knew the severity of the situation; if a student died in his cafe, he couldn’t bear the consequences.
Long Fei took the cigarette and smoked, conversing with him, "What’s with people nowadays, not taking their own lives seriously! Just last week, my classmate died while gaming in the building across, and it was a ghastly sight!"
The internet cafe owner glanced around with a guilty look in his eyes and quickly invited Long Fei into the manager’s office.
He poured Long Fei a cup of tea and spoke softly, "You know about this, huh?"
"Yes! It’s all over the school, they say a vengeful ghost is claiming lives; it wouldn’t be in your cafe, right?"
Long Fei feigned great surprise.
The cafe owner sighed while smoking, distressed, "Don’t mention it, this kid and the one today are from the same group. Bringing calamity, it’s given me quite a headache."
"The same group?"
Long Fei felt a stir inside, thinking to himself that he’d come upon clues effortlessly!
Unexpectedly, a lead appeared so quickly.
On one hand, he took out his phone and sent a message to Ding Xue, asking her to keep an eye on that kid at the hospital.
On the other hand, he continued to casually chat with the Internet cafe manager, "What games are they playing that they get so engrossed? PUBG or Honor of Kings?"
The Internet cafe owner shook his head, "I’m not sure about that. From what they’ve said, it’s like mining; you can dig up treasures in it. If played well, you can earn valuable rewards."
"Really?"
Long Fei frowned slightly, feigning a full interest as he stood up, "That guy didn’t shut down his computer just now, did he?"
The Internet cafe manager shook his head.
Long Fei said, "Then I’ll take a look at this game. If it really can make money, I might give it a try."
"Just play the game; don’t mess with anything else, okay?"
The Internet cafe manager reluctantly agreed, worried that there might be bank accounts or other sensitive information on the computer that Long Fei could steal.
Long Fei smiled and said, "I’m a doctor, not a hacker. I won’t play any tricks."
He crushed out his cigarette and sat down in front of that guy’s computer.
The Internet cafe manager, still uneasy, followed over for a glance.
The computer didn’t have any Alipay accounts open or anything like that, just a webpage with a game still running.
He relaxed a little, and at Long Fei’s request, moved Li Wenwen’s seat over too.
Regarding computer-related stuff, Li Wenwen, the super hacker, was an expert.
Long Fei asked her to help check out this game and see what was so special about it that it could enchant a student so much.
Li Wenwen took a look, fumbled around for a while, and soon was playing the game very smoothly.
She stared at the computer screen and explained to Long Fei, "This is an online game, and the graphics are pretty exquisite. Look here, this is about the game rules."
Long Fei glanced at it, seeing it read, "A large-scale adventure treasure hunting game, Great Qin’s Treasure. You will enter the real Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor and explore the wonders of the world from over two thousand years ago. Whatever treasures you find, you can convert them into money proportionately. The more you seek, the more you gain, an excitement not to be missed."
In the scrolling messages below, constantly there were explosions of news, like Wang Tianba of Yu finding a He Shi Jade and converting it to five thousand Gold Coins.
South Yangtze Li seeking the Sword of the Qin King and converting it to ten thousand Gold Coins.
...
According to the game rules, the conversion of Gold Coins to cash was 2:1.
No wonder these people stayed up all night treasure hunting. It seemed this game had such huge profits.
Li Wenwen looked into it further with curiosity, "Strange?"
"What is it?" Long Fei asked.
Li Wenwen said, "This game is free to register and play. The items inside don’t seem to cost money, completely achievable through time spent in-game. With such high rewards offered by this gaming company, what are they taking to balance out their profits?"
Long Fei knitted his brows, "Could it be that they’re not making this game to earn money?"
Li Wenwen laughed, "Gaming companies aren’t charities, they’re not running this business not to make money. Who would bother to invest so much effort into developing such a large game without a financial motive?"
Long Fei rubbed his eyebrows, pondering, when suddenly the game screen lagged.
A notice appeared, "Unrecognized operation, this game will automatically close in ten seconds."
Li Wenwen and Long Fei exchanged glances, hurriedly searched the database trying to jot down the password and username so they could log in again later.
Little did they know, there was a password verification even for the game’s data.
Li Wenwen had just entered a few letters when the game screen went black, showing "Game Over."
Li Wenwen looked around, surprised, "Strange, how did they know we aren’t the account owner? Does this game have an automatic player recognition function?"
Curious, Long Fei suggested that Li Wenwen search online for this game.
Interestingly, it couldn’t be found online.
Entering "Great Qin’s Treasure," there was absolutely no information about this game
