Chapter 438: Chapter 438: There is a Joyous Occasion in the Village

It’s been a while since I’ve had the company’s food, and occasionally it still tastes pretty good.

Lin Yingying’s appetite has been growing lately, matching Long Fei’s.

Long Fei curiously sized her up and suddenly grabbed her wrist.

Lin Yingying, startled, quickly pulled away, thinking that he was about to make a move on her.

In this office, she definitely couldn’t allow it.

Long Fei was far from as starved for affection as she imagined. After feeling her pulse, he asked in surprise, "You’ve made a breakthrough?"

Lin Yingying frowned and shook off her arm, giving him a glance and retorting, "Breakthrough what?"

Long Fei said, "The Eight Extraordinary Meridians? You’ve already opened the Eight Extraordinary Meridians. Don’t you know?"

"Is that a big deal?"

Lin Yingying shook her head, utterly confused.

"Of course it is!"

Long Fei felt like spitting blood, sensing that something was off with her body to be making unconscious breakthroughs.

He explained to Lin Yingying, "What I originally did was help you open the governor and conception vessels, sort of like building a highway in your body. You opening the Eight Extraordinary Meridians yourself is like constructing provincial and county roads, linking up all the meridians in your body. Haven’t you noticed your strength has increased lately?"

"I don’t do construction, how would I notice that?"

Lin Yingying shot him a look and called Bai Xiaochun in to clean up some clutter.

Long Fei had an expression that she was beyond hope, wanting originally to teach her how to project her Essential Qi outward.

Seeing her lack of interest now, he thought better of it.

It’s maddening how people can differ. He had worked so hard to open the Eight Extraordinary Meridians, but Lin Yingying had opened them cluelessly.

When he had the time, he was determined to check what kind of physique she had.

Lin Yingying went to change, and Long Fei helped Bai Xiaochun tidy up the trash, always feeling that the girl seemed to want to say something to him.

In the office, he didn’t dare to get too close to Bai Xiaochun.

For fear of Lin Yingying getting jealous, thinking he was flirting with her secretary.

She changed into a light blue, form-fitting dress with a sleeveless vest design, exposing arms white and smooth as lotus roots.

Her hair was tied up in a braided ponytail, making her look like an artistic young woman.

She checked herself out in the mirror, then, raising her arm, she twirled in front of Long Fei and asked, "How does it look, not bad, right?"

Long Fei joked, "It’s okay, stronger than our village’s belle."

"Get out of here!"

Lin Yingying snorted. A dress worth tens of thousands, and this guy compared it to a village belle’s?

She slung her bag over her shoulder and led him out.

Seeing him with a long backpack, she asked curiously, "What’s in there?"

"A sword!"

Long Fei, noticing her curiosity, showed her the contents of the backpack so she wouldn’t think he was carrying something indecent.

Lin Yingying took a look and couldn’t help laughing, "Why are you carrying that around? Do you really think you’re some kind of swordsman?"

"Aren’t I?"

Long Fei smiled, actually wishing he could wander the world with his sword.

It’s just that the restrictions were too strict nowadays, not allowing people to carry controlled blades.

Otherwise, he’d wear it on the outside, which would look incredibly cool.

The two went downstairs, arranged the tonics in the trunk, and drove the black Citroën out of the garage.

Lin Yingying no longer cared whether he had a driver’s license or not, she refused to be his chauffeur and made him drive in front.

The worst that could happen upon meeting traffic police was a fine.

As the formidable CEO, every time going out to chauffeur this little security guard was too much a loss of face.

Long Fei sighed helplessly, knowing he wouldn’t enjoy this privilege anymore.

As he passed a supermarket, he stopped the car and told Lin Yingying to wait inside.

Shortly after, he emerged pushing a cart heaped with bags of various sizes.

Lin Yingying got out of the car and opened the trunk.

She looked at Long Fei with a frown and said, "If you want to give gifts, just go to a high-end gift shop. What’s with buying these things?"

In the cart were things like soy milk powder, corn paste, and eight-treasure porridge.

In Lin Yingying’s view, it was somewhat degrading.

Long Fei loaded the items into the trunk and said with a smile, "These are for the neighbors. When I was a kid, I used to eat a lot and often freeloaded meals at their homes. Giving them expensive stuff, they wouldn’t bear to eat it. It’s better to give them something like this."

Lin Yingying gave him a surprised look and thought to herself that he was quite thoughtful to also buy things for the neighbors.

In the city, the concept of neighbors didn’t really exist.

You could live opposite someone and never interact until you die.

After they set off, Lin Yingying leaned back and slept for a while.

She had been down this road before, and the outside scenery no longer held as much attraction.

Long Fei, however, was filled with emotion. Before leaving his village, he was just a poverty-stricken bumpkin.

This time returning, his life had completely changed.

In the past, he would have definitely driven his Audi Q5 back to show off.

But now, he had already risen above such low-level pleasures.

The worldly power and money were no longer his goals, only becoming an immortal through the Way was what he sought.

The journey was quite peaceful, with no one provoking trouble and no encounters with traffic police checkpoints.

But when they reached the entrance of the village, Long Fei’s heart suddenly lurched, and he quickly stopped the car, waking Lin Yingying up to switch seats with her to drive.

Lin Yingying was groggy and sleepy, clearly reluctant.

However, seeing the traffic police ahead, to avoid trouble, she still swapped places with Long Fei.

At the village entrance, banners were strung up, and a line of police officers was stationed.

There were traffic police maintaining order too, causing Long Fei to gape in astonishment.

Such a grand setup, it was as if they were capturing a fugitive.

On closer look, it turned out that there were leaders coming for an inspection.

The banner read, "Warmly welcome the Mayor of Binhai City for the inspection!"

In recent years, the country had carried out large-scale projects to connect every village with roads.

Long Fei didn’t know about other places, but in Binhai City, all the villages named after dragons had cement roads built to them.

Even Longjiawan Village, which was remote enough, had a road paved all the way to it.

After Lin Yingying drove past, the traffic police checked her driver’s license and ID card, asking about their situation before letting them go.

Lin Yingying curiously asked, "What’s going on with your village? Are you undertaking some big project?"

This spectacle was something she was not surprised by.

Long Fei shook his head, dumbfounded. Since ancient times, their village relied on fishing in the sea and hunting in the mountains for food.

The land here wasn’t suitable for farming.

What kind of big project could they undertake with such an inconvenient location?

When the two of them reached the large locust tree at the entrance of the village, a group of people dressed in the red outfits of a drum and gong troupe were resting under the tree.

Long Fei immediately spotted his childhood friend, Li Heiwa.

The guy wasn’t tall and had a dark complexion.

As a child, without wearing clothes, he was tanned to look just like someone from Africa.

His father wasn’t well-educated and hadn’t given him a proper name until he was three. When the village was implementing household registration, his father ended up naming him Hei Wa.

He rolled down the car window, greeted Li Heiwa, and motioned for him to get in the car.

Li Heiwa was at first stunned but then called out excitedly when he confirmed it was Long Fei, "Holy shit, Long Fei?"

He went to open the door and get in, looking at the car excitedly and said, "Did you strike it rich, kiddo? Is this your car?"

"Sort of!"

Long Fei gave a dry laugh and introduced Lin Yingying to him.

Lin Yingying nodded politely and, seeing a bunch of aunties and older ladies outside pointing at her, awkwardly rolled up the car window.

When Li Heiwa saw Lin Yingying, he swallowed hard and was completely stunned.

Damn, a fairy like her, you only get to see on TV!
