Chapter 153: The Lost Person
Chapter 153: Chapter 153: The Lost Person
In the city’s police station, Long Fei, Lin Shanshan, and Ding Xue had all been brought in to assist with the investigation.
Wei Dongming was still angry about the mess Long Fei had caused with the fireworks!
Fortunately, since he had made a significant contribution by helping Ding Xue catch Jiang Feng, Wei Dongming didn’t hold it against him.
After the investigation was thoroughly conducted, the two were released.
They had intended to bid Ding Xue farewell before leaving, but they couldn’t find her anywhere.
Ding Xue was at that moment barricaded in Wei Dongming’s office, adamantly demanding to be transferred to the criminal police squad.
Wei Dongming was in a tight spot, torn between his comrade-in-arms and such a promising rookie.
Ding Xue’s shooting skills and reaction time had taken him by surprise that day.
Four drug traffickers, three underlings shot dead in one strike, and one boss apprehended.
Such accomplishments couldn’t just be dismissed.
After much thought, he asked Ding Xue to go back first.
He would discuss it with his old comrade before making a decision.
Ding Xue left with a pout, and upon descending the stairs, she spotted Lin Shanshan about to drive away.
She waved her down, opened the car door, and climbed in.
By this time, it was already past three in the morning, Lin Shanshan, yawning, asked Ding Xue, "Xue jiejie, where do you want to go?"
"I want to drink, you guys join me!"
Ding Xue, arms folded, sat in the back and uttered resentfully.
Long Fei and Lin Shanshan exchanged glances; they both had things to do tomorrow, and after drinking, where would they find the energy to work?
Seeing they weren’t responding, Ding Xue said unhappily, "You don’t want to?"
Lin Shanshan complained, "Xue jiejie, all I want to do is sleep right now!"
Long Fei cleared his throat twice and said, "I have to take my driver’s test tomorrow. If I drink, won’t they penalize me?"
Ding Xue rolled her eyes at them both and suggested, "Then come to my place. You sleep, and I watch you drink—that should be okay, right?"
"Done, that’s a good idea!"
Only then did the two of them nod their heads in joy and drove to Ding Xue’s home.
She had moved out of her parents’ place and rented a studio apartment alone in the southern part of the city.
The area was not far from Binhai University, mainly rented by young white-collar workers, costing over three thousand a month.
Upon going upstairs, Ding Xue unlocked the door and asked Long Fei and Lin Shanshan to change their shoes.
The one-bedroom apartment was quite a mess.
Ding Xue immediately blushed and bent down to tidy up as soon as she entered.
After a quick clean-up, she invited Long Fei and Lin Shanshan to sit on the sofa.
Lin Shanshan flopped down on one side to sleep, and Long Fei also wanted to sleep, but he felt awkward not to keep Ding Xue company while she drank with such gusto.
Ding Xue fetched a blanket and asked Long Fei to cover Lin Shanshan with it, then asked him, "What do you want to drink, red, beer, or white?"
"Anything’s fine."
Long Fei paused, almost mistaking her for a liquor vendor.
Ding Xue first changed into a loose nightgown in her bedroom, then brought out a bottle of Maotai from the kitchen.
She rummaged under the coffee table, took out a bag of peanuts and two small cups, and placed one in front of Long Fei.
Long Fei asked her, "Didn’t the promotion discussion go well?"
Ding Xue nodded her head, poured the liquor to the brim for him, unwrapped the peanuts and took a bite, "As soon as it gets light, I’ll head back home. If he still doesn’t agree, I’ll jump off a building to show him!"
"It’s not that serious, is it?"
Long Fei clicked his tongue, watching her serious demeanor; she spoke as if she meant it.
Ding Xue raised her glass to clink with his, downed it, and took a deep breath, "I still have to thank you. If it weren’t for you, I couldn’t have felt this triumphant today!"
Long Fei smiled, "Why mention that? Aren’t we all friends?"
Ding Xue giggled, "Wrong, you’re not my friend. Don’t forget, you’re a bad guy I’ve caught."
"You still remember that!"
Feeling awkward, Long Fei coughed twice and glanced at Lin Shanshan subconsciously.
Fortunately, this guy was fast asleep, snoring loudly. It wouldn’t have been good if she had heard.
Ding Xue asked him, "Are you still working as a security guard at Yingying’s company?"
Long Fei nodded.
Ding Xue said, "Why don’t I introduce you to the police station? With your skills, it would be a waste not to be a cop!"
Long Fei quickly waved his hand, "Forget it, I’m too lax, I can’t abide by your police rules."
Ding Xue chuckled lightly, "Are you afraid that if you become a cop, you won’t be able to go out and pick up girls anymore?"
Long Fei hurriedly explained, "Last time was a misunderstanding, I didn’t mean to do that, it was all set up by a friend."
Taking a sip of alcohol, Ding Xue laughed heartily, "Look how nervous you are, I didn’t even say anything about you. It’s normal for a man to have needs, I understand!"
"Who says I’m nervous!"
Long Fei glared at her and poured himself a full glass of liquor.
He looked at Ding Xue, curious, and asked, "Do you often drink like this?"
Ding Xue nodded and said glumly, "Yes, my life is such a failure. If I don’t drink, how can I sleep?"
Long Fei chuckled, "You call that being melodramatic. Compared to us poor folks, you’re already fortunate. You’ve got food to eat, drink to drink, and a job to do. Where have you failed?"
"What do you know!"
Ding Xue threw back a glass and said earnestly, "To me, becoming a detective is the greatest happiness. That’s called having an ideal. Do you understand what an ideal is?"
"I understand, I’ve got ideals too."
Long Fei topped up her drink, and after two glasses, the more he drank, the more refreshed he felt.
Now Ding Xue wouldn’t let him drink, but he wanted to.
It had to be said, the taste of this Moutai was amazing, indeed better than Erguotou.
Drinking it was smooth, rich, and very satisfying.
The two of them, along with some peanuts, had drunk most of the bottle in no time.
Ding Xue’s mood had gradually improved a lot, and she asked Long Fei, "Tell me, what’s your ideal?"
Her little face was flushed and her speech a bit slurred.
Clearly, the alcohol was getting to her head; she had drunk too much.
Long Fei thought for a moment and said, "My ideal is to make a lot of money, buy a big house, drive a big car, marry a ’big’ wife, then bring my grandfather to the city to enjoy life, and find a ’big’ maid to take care of him."
Ding Xue was amused by his words, clutching her stomach she laughed, "I can understand everything else, but what do you mean by marrying a ’big’ wife? You don’t mean to tell me you also want a ’little’ one, do you?"
Long Fei grinned mischievously, "A ’big’ wife isn’t ’big’ in that way, it’s ’big’ in this way."
He gestured across his chest with his hands.
"Rascal!"
Her face turned red, and seeing him staring, she quickly covered herself with her hands.
Long Fei chuckled, "Don’t be nervous, you’re too small, I’m not interested in you!"
He was also drunk and was speaking without thinking.
Ding Xue felt dejected and retorted, "Mine are small? Do you even have taste? Mine are just restrained by a tight shirt, not released. If I took it off, I’d scare you to death!"
She had always been competitive and hated it when others said she wasn’t good enough.
Long Fei burped and looked at her, "Then take it off, let me see how big they are."
"Don’t provoke me!"
The two were being stubborn, and Ding Xue tried to stand up, leaning on the coffee table, but she was dizzy and lacked the strength.
She simply didn’t move, sat on the ground, and in front of Long Fei, she took off her outer pajamas.
