Chapter 69: Informing The Authorities
Chapter 69: Informing The Authorities
"Please have a seat, the young Lord will join you shortly." Frederick politely said to Klaus who was being ushered into their living room so he could get comfortable. Klaus remained silent as he stepped into the warmth of their living room, but he didn’t bother to have his seat like Frederick requested.
His eyes scanned the beauty of the spacious living room and a surge of memory rummaged through his mind as he recalled his times here. Gone are those days when he visited the mansion frequently to come hang out with Cas.
"Shall I offer you some chamomile tea while you wait?"
"That won’t be necessary." Klaus smiled at the butler who wasn’t very excited to see Klaus Winchester in the mansion. "I won’t be staying for long." He informed Frederick. "There’s just something very confidential that I need to settle with your Lord and...."
"Refusing tea from a kind butler like Frederick, don’t be rude Klaus." Cassian’s reprimanding, yet mocking tone made their head turn to the direction of the stairs.
The young lad was unhurriedly making his way down the long stairs, and both Frederick and Klaus blinked shockingly at how he could walk so freely with a blindfold on.
"Lord Cassian." Frederick hurried to his side to assist him down the stairs, but Cassian politely refused his help since his senses were already doing the job of detecting which part he should follow.
"Cas?" Klaus blinked in astonishment as his eyes raked the young lad from head to toe..
"Hmn... I can tell you must look thin, did you miss me?" Cassian flashed a cheeky smile at Klaus who had indeed grown thin but for different obvious reasons that were not news to Cassian anymore.
"Shall we take a walk?" Without waiting for Klaus to even respond to his question, the young lad stepped out of the house through the main door Frederick had opened for him, and Klaus, who was left hanging, really hated whenever that scumbag pulled those annoying stunts on him.
His arrogant attitude was one of the things he had come to dislike about Cassian and it wasn’t surprising to see he hadn’t changed one bit from his unruly behavior.
"This man..." containing his anger, Klaus quietly followed him outside.
The young lad had stepped down from the stone staircase, and he inhaled the cool air that blew swiftly in his front yard. The black blue sky was already showing off the stars that enhanced its beauty, and when he heard the main door close behind him, Cassian’s expression turned stolid, knowing they were finally alone like he wanted.
When he sensed Klaus standing beside him, they began to take a walk through the concrete path. "Let’s get something straight shall we? This is going to be the last time you show up at my doorstep looking for me." Cassian calmly warned. "If you want to have a conversation with me, then schedule a day we meet and keep your feet off this property. Are we clear?"
Every word rolled out of his tongue with such jurisdiction that it silently ate Klaus up in the gut, but regardless of how he felt based on Cassian’s cavalier, he chose to get down to why he came over in the first place.
"You left me with no other choice since you’ve neglected all my invitations." Responded Klaus who moved forward to stand in front of Cassian, monitoring the young lad’s vision with observatory eyes.
"So it is true, you’re blind." Klaus finally concluded his suspicions.
"Did your little spy give you that information too?" He clicked his tongue. "And here I was planning to surprise you."
Klaus wasn’t someone who had a special status like his family, but he had a special bloodline that came from being a Winchester. His family were handsomely wealthy when it came to gaining quality resources, and they were able to create space for themselves in the upper East quarters.
"Enough with the jokes Cassian and let’s not beat around the bush. If you can’t see a thing, then you’re not cut out for handling this case." Klaus asserted with a frown as he stopped walking. "I bet the authorities don’t even have a clue about what happened to you."
"Then leave them in the dark and don’t go about shooting the breeze." Cassian straightforwardly gave his response. "You have no right to question me about how I do my job, Klaus. Me being blind doesn’t stop me from doing what I’ve set my heart to, and I don’t have to explain a goddamn thing to you."
"You will once I tell the authorities the results of your situation." Klaus shrugged with the smile of an opportunist, but it sounded more like a threat to Cassian’s ears which further dampened his mood.
The young lad wasn’t specifically fond of such threats.
He knew something like this would eventually happen if Klaus got to know about his predicament. Klaus had always been at his neck, watching him closely and waiting for the perfect moment to strike and rip him off his post. Now that the foolish being is already aware of his ordeal, he needs to find a way to make him shut his mouth.
"You won’t say a word of this to anyone." Threatened Cassian in a low tone. "I always knew my current predicament would be your source of joy, but it doesn’t change the fact that I’m still one step ahead of you." He took a step forward to prove his point. "We do the same job...but, it must be frustrating since I earn way more than you, right?"
"You speak nonsense!" Klaus instantly denied with a long face. "We both know we have way more than what those people even pay us. Being jealous of your income will only make me look cheap."
"Fool." Cassian scoffed after insulting him directly. "I’m not talking about being jealous of the fact I earn more money, sure you have way more than that and this is all child’s game to you. What I’m saying is, I earn more because I’m better than you, that’s what you’re jealous of, you can’t stand that I’ve always been good at everything even right from our younger days."
"Like punching me in the face and giving me a black eye? You were a ruthless kid." He reminded Cassian. "Also, even if you get dropped from handling the case, that wouldn’t affect you since you’re not money stranded. You aren’t cut out for it with your situation."
"And you think you are?" Cassian tried not to laugh at Klaus’s stupidity. "First of all, what do you even know about the case? The missing people.....what vital information have you gotten that could lead us to the mastermind behind it? The death of sir Roland, have you investigated? Orson must have given you the files of his wife’s statement, is there a connection? What were your thoughts personally? Hmn? Answer these questions correctly and I really won’t mind stepping down for you to handle this case."
Throwing these tough questions at him, Klaus was rendered mute by Cassian’s interrogation, and when he said nothing, Cassian’s lips curved mockingly and he let out a mirthless chuckle.
"Unlike you I take what I do seriously." Cassian corrected. "My income is one of my main priorities since I earned them earnestly and independently. You don’t know shit about me, so stop talking like you’ve known me since I’ve been in my mother’s womb when you were the one who threw it all out through the window."
"That doesn’t mean I’ll let this information skip the authorities." Klaus pushed on, and the environment felt tense due to how serious the conversation had gotten. "I should also take the lead regarding this case with the information I do not wish to disclose to you, don’t you think?"
"You can’t do that. It’s mine to handle."
"Your wedding celebration is being held in four days. I give you four days Cassian, if you don’t look me eye to eye on that very special day, forget it. I’m making sure the authorities know what’s up. I won’t need to tell them since a lot of people will see it for themselves on that day, I wish you a quick recovery."
Giving Cassian a tap on the shoulder, Klaus turned around to take his leave. Cassian heard his footsteps fading until the groaning sound of the gate signaled Klaus’s exit from the mansion.
"Four days." Cassian sighed as he ran his fingers through his hair. Will he be able to regain his sight in just four days?? He can’t let this case be snatched from him, he’s figured out too much concerning those guys who had buried him, and if he’s not going to handle the case anymore, then his hard work will be for nothing.
It’s like jumping from one problem to another, and Cassian had grown sick of it.
"Fredrick!" He called for the butler who in no time showed up to meet him.
"Yes Lord Cassian?"
"Get me a cigar, I might be staying out for a little while." And he walked off to continue his strolling, not bothering to hear what Fredrick had to say.
