The Baroness Misbehaves
Chapter 49: Just A Kiss (2)

Chapter 49: Just A Kiss (2)

Her adverse reciprocation towards his request, indubitably forced Cassian to sit up on his seat with a slight painful cough.

Without being told, the young lad wisely shifted to the end of the swing, keeping a good amount of distance from Madeline before she inflicts further damage to his harmless stomach.

Like having a mother who has the ability of attaining a black belt wasn’t already enough for him, he has a wife who won’t grant him access to kiss her.

"Do you still need a kiss, dear husband?" Madeline asked with a cheeky smile incase he didn’t get her message clearly, and he instantly rejected, to her expectations.

"You are too kind Maddie, but I think I’ve had enough kisses for a day." He uttered the last statement under his breath, rubbing his poor stomach that had to suffer the wrath of his own silly request.

Getting off the swing, Madeline adjusted the hem of her dress before looking at the young lad who was still sitting on the swing with a displeased expression. If she had her way she wouldn’t even talk to him right now, she was still very curious about the tattooed scar on his back, but remembering what he said to her always stopped her from asking him based on what he meant.

When she looked into his eyes last night, she sensed a little fear in his eyes, as though he was afraid of saying exactly what happened to him, but then the chaos maker himself can’t actually have a fear for something, or someone, right?

People fear him.

"Cassian..." She waited for the young lad to look at her before speaking. "All this time I’ve been staying with my uncle and living under his roof, I never once encountered the ghosts or spirits of someone." She took a deep breath and continued. "What I’m trying to say is, when did you learn to start seeing ghosts? And how could you tell that I can see ghosts? When I myself was clueless about such things."

Madeline didn’t know why, but she had a feeling that even his ability to see Ghost’s was connected with the tattoo on his back. They looked strange, and just thinking of the pain itself nearly made her cringe.

If he’s able to tell her his reasons for seeing ghosts, then she might be able to guess the answers herself.

"Shall we take a walk then?" Cassian proposed as he stood up from the swing, his tone calm and collected, and Madeline didn’t seem to have a problem with it.

"In the garden?"

"Outside."

"Outside where?"

"Outside the garden." Interlocking their fingers together and making the young lady’s cheeks bloom against her own will, he took her out of the garden.

Frederick, who was standing at the front of the main door, made a face when he noticed the two newly pairs coming in his direction. Their fingers were interlaced and it made them no different from two happy love birds. At least that was the picture they chose to present.

"Lord Cassian, are you going somewhere? Shall I get Amadeus to prepare the carriage?"

"No," Cassian refused politely. "Me and my wife would like to take a walk instead. The weather is lovely and I wish to enjoy the beauty of the upper East quarters with my lovely wife beside me."

"But it’s almost time for breakfast, won’t you two have anything before going out?" Adeline stepped out of the kitchen after hearing what Cassian had said.

"We can have it when we return, or are you hungry?" Cassian’s eyes moved to the bashful Madeline who was still trying to settle with the warmth of his palm against hers. She had stylishly tried to free her hands from his, but Cas’s hold was undeniably firm.

"Are you hungry?" He asked again when Madeline unintentionally zoned out, and she shook her head with a half smile, indicating she wasn’t hungry.

"Do return quickly so you can attend Lady Inna’s dance test, your mother would be returning very soon, and she won’t be happy if you aren’t present." Frederick gave a quick reminder to the young lad who nodded in affirmation.

"Will do." And he left the mansion with Madeline by his side.

The servants working outside greeted both of them, and they finally exited the mansion through the gate.

They unhurriedly crossed to the other side of the pavement and began to stroll through the quiet and nearly empty street.

The air was cool and pleasing to Madeline. It reminded her of how she always wished to take a walk like this when the weather appeared so good, and it felt satisfying that she didn’t have to daydream about a day like this from her window anymore.

When Cassian gently squeezed their interlocked fingers, a very odd and mysterious warmth circulated across Madeline’s body. This was something she’s never felt before, or maybe she was feeling this way cause she’s never held a man’s hand so intimately in her entire twenty-two-years of living.

"Why is your heart singing so loudly?" Cassian’s rich, and pleasing voice was like a harmonious tune to Madeline’s ear. He had asked her such a teasing question without looking at her, and Madeline blinked in astonishment.

"It’s.... it’s not." She denied, letting her expressive gaze fall into anything that doesn’t look like the man who was still holding her hand in such a firm, yet unharmful manner.

The young lad let out a mirthless chuckle, but said nothing after that. There were barely many people taking a walk across the street, and only a few carriages were still riding by.

"Do you know why I chose to walk with you instead?" He asked another subtle question, and Madeline was tempted to look at his handsome face again, but knowing that if she did, it might confuse her ability to think, so she kept her bashful gaze to the ground.

"Cause you wanted to stroll?" She guessed.

"No Maddie." He subconsciously bit his lower lip at her meek response. "Staying there would only make you depart from my sight, so I made a plan to steal you away from everyone." Before Madeline knew it, the young lad had taken her into the corner of an Alley, away from the sight of passerby.

She was too dumb stricken by his sudden movements to even protest, but before she knew it, her back was connected against the cold walls of a building, and every other thing apart from their presence had disappeared from sight.

"C...Cas..." her eyes widened after registering the fact that he had cornered her against the back of an Alley.

"Your heart is drumming loudly." He commented when he felt her pulse against her wrist he was holding. "If you wish to protest against gaining a kiss from me, then don’t give me the green lights." He kept taunting with his head tilted to the side.

His face was one of the things Madeline would never get tired of staring at.

A carriage suddenly rode by, and Madeline gasped when she noticed that it would be easy for people to spot them here.

"C.. Cas... There are people here. What are you doing?" At the thought of being caught acting so shameless behind the corner of a building, Madeline tried to free herself from Cassian’s grip, but the young lad clearly has no intention of letting her escape today.

"Relax." He made her look into his hypnotizing eyes. "As long as you keep quiet and try to reduce the melody of your heartbeat, we won’t be caught."

His sinuous voice made Madeline take a deep intake of air. She said nothing, but was still cautious of being caught by passerby.

The mischievous young lad moved closer, and Madeline tensed up when he brought his face really close to hers.

She could perceive the intoxicating heat of his Woody and spicy scent, and for the first time, Madeline felt drawn to his seduction against her very own will.

Her body was acting out of defense, and the idea of feeling his sensuous lips against hers made her face redden instantly.

"Have you kissed someone before?" He asked in a whispering tone, and the reddened Madeline shook her head almost immediately, her nervousness displaying in her own eyes as she tried to look elsewhere.

"So this is going to be your first kiss?" His lips curled to the side, and Madeline could tell he was pleased to hear it.

"Keep calm."

When Madeline finally settled down a bit, Cassian continued with his slow-witted movements. His fingers brushed the softness of her trembling lips before caressing her cheek with his fingertips.

Madeline closed her eyes tightly when his warm breath was starting to fan her face.

Staring at her anxiousness and how she gulped down her own saliva. Cassian tried not to tease, and his lips finally moved.

Madeline, who was waiting for his lips on hers finally felt it, but she didn’t feel those soft cool lips of his in the place she expected most.

He dropped a tender kiss on her forehead instead, surprising Madeline who’s eyes instantly flew open. The kiss lingered a little longer on her forehead, as though he was trying to leave an imprint, and just the thought of it spread a whole new warmth through her shaky system, so much that she involuntarily closed her eyes to savor the sweet moment.

Madeline didn’t know exactly what to make of his actions, yet she surprised herself by succumbing to it needlessly. Does he really like her, or is she misunderstanding his intentions?

But how can he like her so suddenly? Or is there something she’s missing from all of this??

Wasn’t his initial plan to kiss on her lips??

He finally pulled back to look at the astonished Madeline, and he released her hand. "That is enough for me." He took a step back. "Since it’s your first time, I plan on saving it for another day when it’ll become memorable. I’m saving it for a day when you’ll learn to call my name with the right emotions."

"Huh?" Madeline didn’t understand the last statement. Call his name?

"What do you mean?" Her senses was centered to the lingering feeling on her forehead, that the words he kept saying to her made no sense at all.

"I’ll tell you when you figure the answers yourself. Now, we need to begin with my history on ghosts, shall we?? Or are you no longer curious to figure out how you can see ghosts?" He quirked his brows at her.

Madeline’s heart was still facing a hurricane, no matter how free she felt Cassian to be, he was a man of mysteries himself.
