Making her way to the backyard of the mansion since she hasn’t been there yet, Madeline quietly stepped foot into the backyard and was instantly welcomed by the sight of a fountain that stood at the front left of the nourishing garden.

It offered a calming element to an already calm garden, and Madeline was amazed by the magnificent view in front of her.

The flowers and plants growing on each side are practically the joy of the garden. From how healthy they looked, it was obvious the gardeners and the servants have been carefully tending to every one of them.

The garden in the backyard was incredibly big! And she was curious to know how Adeline and Frederick were capable of supervising all of this.

Dew drops lingered on the fleshy petals of each flower, and the air was a mixture of rain filled with the pleasant scents of different flowers.

Inhaling deeply, the atmosphere felt incredulously peaceful. Flowers are indeed a gift to earth.

Not too far ahead, Madeline could spot a certain figure slouching against the wide swing that lightly swayed back and forth due to the aid of the cool harmless wind.

There was a sudden unexpected thump in her heart when her eyes lingered on the attractively handsome being who hadn’t sensed her presence just yet.

Staring at his immaculate side profile, his clear Amber-brown eyes looked distant, like someone who was lost in his own imagination and was far away from reality.

He held a cigar in one hand, and a puff of smoke escaped his sensual mouth.

Madeline wasn’t hundred percent surprised to see the young lad smoking, neither was she hundred percent happy about it either, but again, she understood not everyone was perfect.

Just like her who needed medicine to deal with her trauma, she suspected Cassian must have a thing of his own that usually calmed him down.

Or so she thought.

His present mood looked calm and he seemed to be enjoying the weather. As much as she wished to go and talk to him, Madeline didn’t know if it would be right to interrupt him when he’s finally relaxing for a change.

’I’ll come back later.’ She made up her mind and quickly turned to leave the backyard.

"Running away again?" Cassian’s deep magnetic voice made her halt in her step, and the next thing she heard was a dissatisfying sigh. "You really are a little girl."

"For your information, I’m not little." Madeline turned around to correct him, and he nodded his head in a nonchalant manner. "You’re right, even little girls know how to give a peck before leaving. Will I be arrested for child molestation now?"

He kept teasing with a straight face, and Madeline frowned at him. "I am an adult woman, or are you implying you got married to a child?"

"That was my first fear, even Amade was stunned to see you were twenty-two on our marriage certificate. We both thought I had broken the laws of marriage. Tsk!"

Glaring at the man who made her face flush in embarrassment, Madeline walked up to the swing where he sat and pointed a finger at his face. "Listen to me, I am not.... What are you!_"

The next thing she knew, Cassian had grabbed the hand she used at pointing at him, and pulled her to sit on the swing beside him.

"I don’t argue with little girls."

"Stop calling me that."

"My little girl, is this preferable?"

Madeline looked at him and wanted to object, but staring at his handsome face and the taunting smile he gave her made her restrict herself from arguing with him.

She looked away from him with her arms folded, and she hated how her heart always raced in an uncontrollable manner whenever she was around him.

It didn’t feel like anything negative since she honestly enjoys his company. But must he tease her all the time?

Seeing she wasn’t going to retaliate any further, Cassian proceeded to rest his head on her thighs while lying properly on the swing. He pressed his finger to the mouth of the cigar, stopping it from burning further and tossing it away.

"Sorry you had to see this, I don’t do this everyday, but they stable me from time to time." He explained even though she didn’t ask.

With Madeline here, he didn’t need the cigar to calm his nerves anymore.

Meanwhile, Madeline’s mouth fell agape when the young lad rested his head on her lap, and he closed his eyes as though he was preparing to sleep. "This is more comfortable." He uttered quietly.

He looked so ethereal, and Madeline couldn’t seem to get over the dark tiny mole that added to his good-looks. Madeline was sure he knew how attractive he was, that’s why he’s doing all of this.

"I never gave you permission to rest on me." Madeline complained, ignoring the flutters she felt at the pit of her stomach.

"I never asked." Came his response that stated he doesn’t care.

"You..!!.."

"If you knew the way you keep throwing yourself at me every night, you wouldn’t be complaining right now. If you weren’t asleep, I’d take it that you had the intention of seducing an innocent man like me."

"I...what?!" Madeline’s pupils dilated. "I did nothing of that sort."

"You were asleep, how can you tell?" He sighed. "That night when you stole my carriage, I was right when I said you tried to kidnap me. You must have fallen head over heels for this gentleman at first sight, and then played that whole charade to marry me."

"False accusation. I only saw you that night!"

"That day when you jumped off your uncle’s building and into my arms, or did you forget?" He opened an eye to peek at Madeline who instantly froze after he made mention of that day she escaped from Roland’s clutches.

That person who saved her from falling was him??

"And the night we made eye contact for the first time, my carriage had broken down at the front of your home, and you were staring at me from your window. This should ring a bell, shouldn’t it?"

The more he kept speaking about their encounter, the more her eyes kept widening.

That means that day when she broke his carriage, wasn’t actually their first encounter???

They’ve met before then??

"Why didn’t you tell me all this time?" Madeline was tempted to hit him for keeping it from her.

"I assumed it would be more fun seeing your reaction in the end, and I was right."

"You..!!.."

"Shhhh," he silenced her. "This is the garden of Eden, we’re making a lot of noise here. I promise we can make the loudest noises in the bedroom, but not here."

"Loudest..." Madeline didn’t get the meaning of his words at first, and when she finally did, her eyes glinted.

"You pervert!" She elbowed Cassian’s stomach, forcing a painful groan out of him.

"What did you do that for??" He asked in surprise.

"Hmph! Get away from me, I’m leaving."

"You just hurt me, what if I had died? Cassian pretended to be in serious pain from the little hit Madeline had given him.

Seeing him clutching his stomach and making no attempt on getting his head off her lap, Madeline tried to play his game.

"Alright, what do you want?"

"My personal doctor made one of the best medicines known to me."

"Which is?"

He made a kiss sound with his tempting lips. "Kiss me."

This pervert!!!

"A kiss you say??" Madeline feigned a coyly smile. She was thinking of how many ways she could end Cassian’s life for behaving this way with her, while the young lad was starting to think he had succeeded in making her fall for his charms.

"Come on."

"Close your eyes first, I won’t be able to do it if you keep staring like that." Madeline persuaded him to close his eyes in a sweet tone that he couldn’t refuse.

"Are you sure you’ll do it?"

"Mhmmn." She nodded obediently.

Believing her words, Cassian licked his lips and closed his eyes, awaiting to feel the softness of wife’s lips on his.

No woman has been able to excite him the way Maddie does it, and he wondered what sort of intoxicating spell she must have casted on his innocent self, to the point of even getting a kiss from her was starting to make his head turn.

He was even ready to abide by her wishes just to get a single kiss.

After he had closed his eyes like she said, Madeline glared at him and elbowed his stomach once again, except she did it harder this time around.
