Chapter 168: Exposed (1)

Alaric, who was informed about the Fiend invading his palace, smirked at the outcome of his plan coming into place. To avoid putting his people into distress, Alaric had to cut the evening short by using his father’s health condition as an excuse to end the charity ball.

As confused as his guests were, and those of the council who were waiting to have a private conversation with him regarding the question he had asked during the gathering they had, they knew there was no way to go ahead with the conversation once His Majesty had made the decision to end the night, and by ending the event means ending everything else they had to offer tonight.

"Are you sure about this?" Theresa asked her husband with concern displaying in her eyes, and Alaric, who stood at the top of long stairs watching the guest exit the building, exhaled through his nostril before standing straight, his arms folded behind his back.

"If we can’t find the missing people, then it is my duty to catch the creatures responsible for it." His tone sounded stern, "I had to take a huge risk by using my own people as a way to lure them here, and thankfully none of them had been victimized. The guards will escort them back to their carriages so they can leave peacefully, and for your safety, I need you to stay with Father until I return."

He looked at his wife, "I need to see the person responsible for creating this chaos in the first place, and it’s about time we get to the bottom of it." Something severe flashed in his eyes, "same time, I still believe my brothers aren’t dead, their disappearance must have something to do with the missing people case, and until I see who is responsible for abducting my brothers all those years ago, I won’t stop."

"Alaric..."

"Take her inside." He ordered the guards who were patiently waiting for him, and at his firm order, the guards hurried to Queen Theresa, escorting her back to her Chambers.

Taking a deep breath, Alaric got rid of his cape and went down the stairs. His trusted guard who was waiting for him and staying on guard at the end of the stairs, quietly followed Alaric when he made his way to the hallway.

"The hell!!" Cassian’s attention got sidetracked when he made it to the empty hallway, but upon reaching the dim-lit hallway, Cassian’s eyes widened slightly, a bit struck at the sight of two Elian facing each other as one of them threw the second one against the wall of a building, brutally breaking through the wall and entering another room that looked no different from the hallway.

Clouds of dust filled the area, and Cassian took off his mask, staring at the destruction before him. The broken window, a shattered wall, broken tables and glass pieces scattered on the ground.

"Elijah!" Out of instinct, Cassian called the name of Elijah as his presence was sensed, and the young vampire who wanted to go after the one he had thrown against the wall, halted in his steps, and as though amused, a slow smile curved his lips, and he turned to look at the young lad who remained rooted at his spot, watching the scene that was displayed for his eyes to see.

"Did you enjoy the show?" Asked Elijah, and Cassian’s expression paled visibly.

"Why the hell do you look like that?" His physical appearance was a carbon copy of Elian, and Cassian immediately felt confused, and his eyes darted to the wall where Elian was being thrown, and the vampire was yet to rise to his feet.

"I see, Elian never mentioned about me to you as well." He tsked and glanced at the wall where he had shoved Elian through, "Now I really feel like ending your life."

"You two are..."

"Brother’s?" He chuckled as though it sounded funny to him, cause he also assumed they were one, "we used to be close brothers, we were inseparable to say the least, but now he’s brainwashed by you petty humans, so I’m trying my best to bring him back to his senses, I don’t care if he dies while I do so." Elijah’s sharp nails elongated, signifying the amount of torture he was ready to bring upon Elian, but then his brows rose as if he just remembered something.

"Have you seen your wife? A part of me wanted to kill her and another part of me was aching to taste her blood." He smirked intimidatingly, a bit irritated he missed his chance due to his own brother’s intrusion.

Again.

"I am appalled, but then the world seemed bright the minute I heard your voice." From the corner of his eyes, he could see Elian struggling to get the piece of wall building that had fallen on top of him out of his way, but he ignored his brother with a roll of his eyes, giving all the attention to Cassian who appeared bored from listening to all the things Elijah had to say.

"Have you made your choice?" He asked, taking a step forward, "join me, and we can stop this whole building from falling apart, end the human race, and most especially, that woman." He pointed a finger at someone standing behind Cassian, and when the young lad turned to see who Elijah was referring to, Madeline stood at the far end of the hallway, but she stopped walking when Elijah pointed a finger in her direction.

"That woman, she’s going to kill us all." Elijah informed Cassian, his red eyes glinting with pure hatred. "The light that came out of her, you can’t be too stupid to not have noticed what happened, didn’t you feel it??"

He locked gaze with Cassian who unfortunately understood what he was referring to. "If she develops that light inside of her, we all die. Remember, I’m always watching, instead of fighting your own kind, kill the one who’ll be responsible for eradicating us completely from the earth."

"You’re sick!" Cassian scowled, leaving Elijah baffled as he did not expect the opposite remark. "Don’t you ever seize a moment to keep your mouth shut?"

A look of disappointment flashed in Elijah’s eyes, "you still wish to stand with these people?" Aggravated, Elijah’s hold on his twin blade tightened, and unable to stand that woman who was walking towards them, in a fit of rage, he threw his blade at her, with an unnoticeable speed that sent Madeline’s eyes widening at the sight of the twin blade heading towards her.

Before she could think or act, the sound of the blade stabbing her made her freeze at her spot, and the world fell silent.
