The Baroness Misbehaves
Chapter 167: Special Bullets

Chapter 167: Special Bullets

Madeline quietly remained where she stood as Cassian had requested of her. She closed her eyes and continued with her breathing meditation in an attempt to calm her racing heart. For the first time, Madeline found it difficult to sit in one place when she knew Cassian and everyone else were out there facing Elijah.

She felt useless, she wanted to help in some way without disrupting whatever plan Cas and the rest had made in order to stop Elijah, but what can she do?? How can she help??

Controlling her emotions, she slowly rose to her feet. Madeline had no idea how she would be of help to Cas, but one thing is for sure and that is the fact that she can’t stay here.

"Milady." One of the guards who had spotted her leaving, called for her attention, and Madeline stopped in her tracks to look at the guard who approached her with a bow of his head.

"Lord Cassian has given the orders to keep you protected until he returns." Said the guard, but Madeline shook her head in refusal, finding the guard’s comment outrageous.

"No, I need to leave this place, I can’t stay here, instead of protecting me, protect him, there’s someone in the palace building and he’s here to shed blood, you need to go, inform his Highness and tell him what is going on, we need to do something to keep the guests safe... we need....

*STAB!*

A shocking gasp tore from Madeline’s lips when the blade of a sword suddenly protruded the guard’s stomach, and her eyes momentarily widened with alarm, seeing the edges of the blade coated with blood, her body automatically freezed, and her blood went dry.

Madeline’s mouth was opened as she met the startled look on the guard’s face. She wanted to scream, but her voice had hooked to her throat. She watched the life fade from his eyes, and another gasp left her lips when the sword was brutally pulled out, and immediately the guard dropped to his feet, Madeline locked gaze with a pair of sickening blackish eyes.

Her eyes widened further, and terror overtook her senses when her gaze landed on the bloody blade on the killer’s grasp. Her attention returned to the inhumane guard who took a step towards her, and Madeline took an unsteady step back.

This guard, Madeline’s dark orbs, took notice of the black streaks of veins that popped out from its body. Its face, the hands, the suddenly sharp nails, the blackish possessed eyes, and the razor sharp teeth.

Madeline felt her knees go weak, and she dropped to the ground with the guard, no, not a guard, but a Fiend began to approach her with a sneer, the bloody sword in its hand was being twirled lightly as a look of triumph flashed in its eyes.

"At last." Its inhumane voice startled Madeline who felt her knees go weak, making it difficult for her to rise up again. "Master will be pleased if I brought him to you dead, after all, he never wanted you alive."

"Get away from me!" Madeline tried her best to stand up as she skidded back, refusing to let the creature get a hold of her. It tried to grab her legs but Madeline was quick to avoid those hands grabbing her legs.

Looking around, her attention was fixed on the vase that rested underneath a table, and Madeline quickly crawled to reach for it.

"No you don’t." The Fiend, who sensed her intention, immediately grabbed her foot and pulled her back to it, but unbeknownst to the Fiend, Madeline was able to reach the vase on time, and the minute it pulled her back, Madeline propped herself up and shattered the vase on the Fiends head, leaving the Fiend disoriented as it let go off her leg.

Using the opportunity, Madeline immediately got to her feet, and when she turned around to see what had happened, the table where she had picked the vase swiftly moved from its position, and her eyes widened when it hit the Fiend, pushing it to the wall and trapping it there.

"What is this?!!" The Fiend tried to free itself from the table, but it was difficult to move it away.

Stunned to see the table move by itself, Madeline whipped her head to the right, only to see Lily standing at a corner, both her hands were stretched forward in the direction of the Fiend, and from the looks of it, Madeline could guess that she was the one responsible for the moving table.

Returning to her senses, Madeline immediately fled from the hallway, leaving Lily to deal with it as she knew the little girl couldn’t get hurt.

On her way, she bumped into Orson who had Inna with him, and Madeline stopped running after coming in contact with the two of them. For a second, she nearly passed out at the thought of running into another Fiend.

"Maddie?" Inna’s face instantly turned worried after noticing Madeline’s distraught look, and Orson had already pulled out his gun for safety reasons, his expression calmed after noticing it was Madeline.

"Are you alright?" Inna asked, and before Madeline could consider responding, she heard a loud gunshot behind her, and when she turned, Orson had shot another Fiend that was heading their way, and the body immediately turned into ashes, leaving Madeline to stare in disbelief.

"Guns can kill it?"

"Yeah, but we use a different kind of bullet." He explained. "When you and Inna stepped out, Cas and I used the time we had to create a bullet that could penetrate these things and destroy the vessel, making it easier to kill the Fiends, and His Majesty gave his full support. Took us a whole night to get them ready for today, actually... we expected this to happen.....duck!"

"Huh?" Out of instinct, Madeline went on her knees, and the next thing she heard was the sound of a gun being fired, and she covered her ears due to the ear-piercing sound.

Looking over her shoulder, she noticed a body disintegrating and turning into ashes behind her.

"I need to get you and Inna to safety, Alaric was also prepared for this, so you both have nothing to fear, come with me." Orson led the way for the two of them, and Madeline recalled when they went to greet his Majesty’s father, and she was told to take a walk with Queen Theresa.

Were they already aware that this would happen?

"We can’t leave, Elian and Cassian are still..."

"If something happens to the both of you, those two vampires will have my head served on a platter." Orson stated, feeling his heart thump after reminding himself of Cassian’s threat. "The least I can do now is stop the Fiends from coming anywhere near you till you’re out of here."

He made it clear to the two ladies. Inna, who still wasn’t satisfied, surveyed the area they were in, and her gaze caught sight of another gun that laid on the floor, close to the dead body of a guard.

"Orson, all the guns loaded with this special bullet, did the palace guards also receive some of these bullets?"

"Yeah, why? With his brows knitted, he watched Inna hurry to the body of a dead guard, and she picked up the gun that laid beside it.

"I’ve also wanted to use a gun." She smiled, but Orson frowned in complete disapproval, "put that away, it’s dangerous and you can’t...."

Before he could finish his statement, Inna raised the gun and fired it at something behind him. Startled, Madeline and Orson swiftly turned around, and another sight of a disintegrating body was seen, leaving Orson and Madeline to stare, obviously dumbfounded.

Inna flipped her hair to the side as she stood in front of them. "Let’s go, we have to find Elian and Cas."

Madeline and Orson exchanged glances.

"She really proves herself as Cas’s sister." Shaking his head, they both followed.
