Chapter 124: Peeking (2)

Cassian could feel his heart racing against his chest as he watched Madeline undress from the small mirror that he suddenly noticed, unable to look away from the glorious sight no matter how hard he tried to picture his actions as wrong. The soft glow of candlelight flickered around the room, casting shadows that danced against the walls, and the silence that fell between them felt thick enough to cut a knife through.

Madeline, who was completely unaware of the fact that he could still see her from a hidden mirror continued to undress with ease, and the young lad watched in awe as the soft candlelight flickered across her skin, casting shadows that made it hard for him to resist his growing arousal.

No doubt, Cassian had always been captivated by Madeline’s beauty even if he never once showed it, but seeing her undress like this was an entirely new experience for him. She moved with a grace and elegance that left him breathless as she removed each piece of clothing that stirred him up on the inside - so much so that he had to swallow his urges and look away from the mirror, but it didn’t last up to a minute before his gaze returned to steal a peek at his wife’s body.

He watched as Madeline unfastened her gown and let it glide down her shoulders before it pooled at her feet. His eyes were glued to the reflection of her milky white skin in the mirror, savoring every inch of her as he subconsciously licked his lips.

He was so consumed by what he was seeing that he failed to notice the light outward swelling that had grown in his pants.

Madeline’s slender arms reached up to unpin her midnight-colored locks, which cascaded down her back in waves, and if she wasn’t oblivious to the fact that he could see her, Cassian would have taken it that his wife had the intention of seducing him tonight.

Cascian had the irresistible urge to run his fingers through her pronounced tresses.

Since he hasn’t felt such a strong need to want someone, he figured it was difficult to control as he tried not to give himself away. He saw her lift a lacy nightgown over her head and slip it over her curves, which accentuated her toned figure.

Her back arched as she adjusted the clothes on her shoulders, and Cassian could not help but imagine the feel of her smooth skin under his fingertips.

A sudden urge to touch her overwhelmed Cassian. He longed to hold her in his arms, to run his hands over her body until she was a quivering mess beneath him. He yearned to take her over and over again, to make her scream his name until she couldn’t breathe. But he knew he couldn’t, and that made him release a devastated sigh as he closed his eyes.

He couldn’t have her when situations are like this. Just thinking about it was starting to make him wonder how long he intends on waiting for her, and he really hoped he doesn’t have to wait too long to make her his.

"I’m done." He heard her say, snapping him back to reality. Turning around to look at her, Madeline noticed the strange look in his eyes, but before she could guess it out, he averted his gaze and tried to fix his attention on anything that wasn’t Madeline.

"It’s... it’s been a long day and I... I’ll have to..."

"Did you just stammer?" Madeline blinked in surprise hearing Cassian stammering on his tone for the first time. When he lifted his head to look into her surprise-filled gaze, he said nothing in response, and as though stunned by his own gibberish word, he just walked into the adjoining bathroom.

Madeline, however, was still stunned, and suddenly, a snort laugh escaped her at the cute sight of Cassian stammering in front of her. Was stammering also contagious??

When Cassian stepped out of the bathroom looking dressed in his usual nightwear, Madeline was sitting at the end of the bed, her back resting against the wall and her legs crossed. A book was placed in the middle of her crossed legs, and Cassian joined her on the bed.

"What are you reading?"

"A book about ghosts." She answered before lifting her head up to smile at him. "Just like you, I want to have a vast knowledge about them, and hopefully gaining more insight might help me discover the ghost in my dreams."

"How sure are you that it’s a ghost?"

"Ghost or vampire, a vampire ghost, a ghost vampire, anyone it maybe, I must know what I’m dealing with." She answered softly before releasing a sigh, and then she looked at Cassian.

"Where did you go?"

"I went to get our things." He answered, but Madeline’s eyes narrowed into a suspicious slit. "Where did you go before then?"

"Are you suspecting me?"

"I have enough reasons to."

Brushing his fingers into his hair, Cassian averted his gaze from Madeline, unwilling to speak up, but when he stole glances at her and noticed she still eyed him suspiciously, he finally confessed.

"I only shot both his hands."

"Cassian! But we agreed!" Madeline’s expression turned a bit pale after knowing Cassian still went after him. "You know the society we live in, and the fact I come from the upper west quarters will only make them point fingers at me."

"They need to have fingers before daring to point at you."

"And what does that mean?" As subtle as his responses were, Madeline felt there was a dangerous meaning behind it. She wasn’t feeling bad for Jeremy in the slightest, she was more worried about the accusations that could come Cassian’s way if something bad happens to Jeremy.

"Leave him to the court, and keep your guns in your pocket." She stated candidly, making sure he knew how serious she was, and the young lad nodded obediently.

The way he looked at her, he appeared so innocent that sometimes she found it unbelievable that he could harm a fly. Yet, she was pretty much aware of how dirty he played with a harmless face.

"But I had to get revenge somehow, otherwise I won’t sleep peacefully. He abducted you and touched you, so I dealt with his hands as his reward, but since you’re worried, I’ll let him be, the only issue is, I don’t know how long I can keep that promise."

"You will." Madeline sighed, trying her best not to remember that horrific scene of her helpless self. "Did you see mother? Is Isabella fine as well? She must be worried after I vanished and ...."

"I didn’t wait to see mother, and don’t speak of Isabella. Every member in that house is starting to irritate me, I can’t stand it."

"Is that why you made us move here?"

"If you don’t like this place, I can find us another place but..."

"No no, that wasn’t what I meant, I really really like this place." Madeline immediately corrected his assumptions before smiling. "I like it a lot that I would have made the decision for us to come live here sooner if you had told me earlier."

Hearing the genuity in her voice, Cassian calmed after being reassured that she liked it. "Do you know the greatest part of this house?"

She shook her head, and to her surprise, he moved closer to where she was sitting, and she flinched when he brought his face so close that she could kiss him if she moved an inch closer.

"Privacy." He answered, and Madeline’s cheeks turned a pink hue. As nervous as she felt on the inside, she was still anticipating for him to kiss her and replace all of Jeremy’s touch on her skin with his, but to her disappointment, he backed away.

"We can work on the case without any distraction." He elaborated, and Madeline failed to hide her disappointment as a frown displayed on her face.

"What? Am I Wrong?" He asked, but to his surprise, she ignored him and laid down to sleep, covering herself up with the blanket.

"Goodnight."

"Sleeping already?"

She didn’t respond, and Cassian, who was able to guess what had made her annoyed, had to stifle his laugh to avoid getting on her nerves.

"Goodnight."
