Chapter 297: Downfall

"Shi...no" her eyes shocked, the highlight of her vision slightly dim, due to the blood trailing her face, the effects of the previous attack.

Shino stood before her, his body barely able to keep standing, the pain and the effect of all their battles were wearing on him ardently, his mere bones felt like they would break out of his skin in pieces, but yet he still stood as strong as he could, even as it weighed on him like he had a rock against his body. He drew on his breath unstable like he couldn’t breathe.

The excruciating pain burning from his amputated arm, hurt like hell, luckily the attack from the Queen wasn’t on his real arm but his prosthetic one, in spite of that... they bled nonstop, and his wounds healed too slow. He took everything he had to throw that kick at the Queen, the thought of Sumi getting hurt was what fume him, and now...

His body gave out...

"SHINO!" she tried to move but her body gave a loud snap, and she hugged herself tightly in pain, she had no energy left.

Shino forced his body on his knee, drawing in harsh unstable breath, shaky.

"T-T-T-The others..." he found it difficult to speak, the pain from the back of his neck was ardent.

Sumi’s eyes darted to the rest of the team against the ground, and the tears fell uncontrollably, and her heart weighted like a heavy ton, squeezing within her very chest... pain.

Sensing her silence Shino was forced to look for himself and seeing the mere scene made his eyes turn hollow and lifeless and the color from his face drained.

"You humans are persistent" The Queen’s dark voice chimed in, she was up on her feet, her wounds closing up. "You never learn" her mixed-colored eyes beamed. "You all live on this silly notion of wanting to survive no matter the cause, or the fetish belief of protecting loved ones... tell me... Shino..."

A hot chill ran through his spine at the mention of his name from her dark lifeless tone. "...how many of your friends have you protected?"

Shino’s fist clenched hard against the dirt ground, his body shocking.

"No matter what you do" she began marching towards them like a predator stalking her prey "No matter how much you fight..."

Tears streamed down his eyes.

"You will always fail... just as you failed to be a Commander"

Sumi’s teeth clenched hard.

"Death will always be inevitable, no matter how you humans try to escape, WE are absolute, all you just have to do is... " she smirks. "...let nature take its cause"

The wind blew strongly carrying the ashes off the ground and waving them around them. "This world has its ending on black storm day.." she looked to the skies and spread her arms, her smile not ceasing. "...humanity was over that very day, whatever you do will not matter, how foolish of them to send kids, kids who know nothing to fight battles that are bigger than them" her gaze descended.

Sumi’s eyes widened in horror.

"You think the other world was hell well this...." her amused feature was more prominent like she was mocking their very existence. Her gleaming eyes centered on Sumi, and she was caught up in all horrors like she was in a time loop. "...is worse than hell!"

Her body shooked more, her mind played all the horror, she was hunted by it with every breath she took, because she knew it within, no matter how she tried to hide it, this world was worse than the past. Tears streamed down her cheeks out of control as she held her head and cried, sobbing painfully and pondering on the notion and the possibility of not being in this situation.

"S-Sumi"

Her teary eyes darted to Shino, no life in his eyes, and he looked paler than usual, he was just as lost as she was when he spoke. "I-I-I’m sorry" his teeth clenched. "We couldn’t do anything... I failed, I failed all of you" he held his bleeding arm tightly. "I couldn’t protect any of you" he cried. "...the others... the others..." he broke more and crumbled just like the Queen wanted "...The others are gone..."

She was using their weak state of mind, and their loss, to break the little spirit they have left without remorse, for a broken body and mind was just as strong as killing a person.

Sumi was stiff watching Shino cry like a child, his spirit, everything was slowly getting dim, it only took a second to snap. Her gaze leveled, the bangs of her hair covering her eyes.

"I-I-I promised I would protect my friends... and save h-humanity" he shook his head, his tears waving in droplets as he did. "M-Maybe... Maybe..."

Her tears dripped to the ground, wetting the sand.

"M-Maybe the world is truly broken"

The Queen tick her tongue, taking her time as she still stalked towards them. "In this world, there is only pain, regret, death, and..." she watched the broken kids before her. "...void"

"AAAAAHHHHHH!!!" Shino shouts gripping the ground tightly still his nails cracked and bleeding, he wanted to move, he wanted to attack, he wanted to prove her wrong, he wanted to save the world, but... He could only be on his knees wasted, broken, and powerless, and only watch as the very life itself slip away, they have failed, and humanity will be gone... forever.

The Queen came to halt, her eyes no wonder at Sumi and Shino, but at the boy leisurely rising to his feet, as if his body wasn’t just about to break from the number of wounds covering his entire body as if his bones weren’t broken enough. Her inside clawed and her body itched and her amused features turned into a deep frown.

"Hiro," she said in malice, the very thorn she desperately wanted to break.

Hiro dragged his feet on the ground until he stood in front of Shino and Sumi like a zombie, his blood dripping to the ground. Sumi and Shino were too far gone in their head to even notice anything.

"This war is... I-I-Is far from over. T-That thing will stop at nothing f-from w-wiping us from t-t-the face of this earth, I-I know you a-a-all think all hope is lost... b-but we all k-k-knew this w-w-will not be easy to g-g-grasp, we must all face the h-h-horrors that come with it. B-B-But do not give up b-b-because if you do n-n-now..."

Shino’s eyes slowly went wide, for those words he spoke were familiar, it made his mere heart slam a loud heartbeat.

"... I-I-I-I-If you all give up now" his teeth clenched. "Then e-e-everyone who h-h-had died to this point would have died for n-nothing"

Sumi slowly opened her eyes, and she raised her head leisurely as well as Shino. They knew those words, a hot shiver ran through their spine.

’Those words...’ Shino thought as his gaze fell on Hiro’s back, which he saw as General Anzai’s, and he gasped.

"R-Rise back to your feet... r-r-raise your head..." He raised his leisurely and his dead eyes on the Queen, blood covered his face, only his bio-genetics eyes beamed in his clouded features. "...and look your opponent in the eyes!" he added his words more strongly this time.

A deep shiver covered her body, for some reason, her body shook, like she was slammed by something that caused a deep fear within her. ’...what is this feeling?’ she thought as her teeth clenched hard, her fingers shake, she couldn’t believe this, she was shaking in the presence of this Human that stared at her with nothing but half-dead eyes, causing fear to run through her bones. ’...a mere human!’ her insides boiled in rage.

"WHY DON’T YOU ALL JUST DIE!!!!!" her voice released like a tornado and struck everything in sight, slicing it to pieces.

She took harsh breaths, she never thought she would lose her composure like that, it was uncalled for. She chuckled deeply, her shoulders vibrating, and then it turned to a loud wicked laugh, it chime through the entire area that was nothing but destruction.

Her beaming eyes centered on the bio-genetics in the pool of their own blood, she became more amused, until she straightened herself. "Pathetic!" she smirks, her obstacles were out of the way now, but she gasped suddenly because, in spite of the wave, Hiro still stood like a wall before her.
