Chapter 279: Smokescreen

Chapter 279: Smokescreen

An eye opened at the forehead of The colossal Kaiju, blue-colored like a bio-genetics eye, it looked down at the enormous smoke covering the area, not even a thing could be seen or the sense of a single life form.

"Mission accomplished," it said. "Humanity has been eliminated", no one could have survived that beam, it moved back to leave but paused, the one eye narrowed, the smoke steam was clearing gradually and then it saw something.

Hiro coughed, painfully, blood spilling from his mouth, he must have really hit the ground from the force of the explosion, his whole body ached, the immense pain shocking his bones, his muscles contracting as he tried to move. He should be dead, he should be annihilated but how come he was still in one piece? And still, breathing?

He sat up but held his chest in pain, his body was shaking immensely, the strong urge to fall back to the ground was intense, but he ignored the feeling, he bent to his knees, one hand on the dirt ground and the other holding unto his chest tightly, he drew unstable breaths, his body continued to tremble and he felt extremely dizzy, but he couldn’t go to sleep yet.

He raised his head, his senses were killed because of the immense smoke laying around from the attack, he couldn’t sense anything due to how thick it was, he couldn’t make out any auras.

He pants. ’The explosion happened... how come I’m still alive?’ his eyes shook at that fact. He needed to find out if everyone was okay and if Fukuoka was still in one piece, but the horror of it not being there overwhelmed him, what if it was blown off the map? He quickly shook his head at the horrifying thought. ’No, it can’t be’ , his teeth clenched hard.

He looked behind and then his eyes were shocked because the smoke was slowly clearing, his senses caught notice of a black barrier up, covering Fukuoka, his senses could see the structure but the smoke still made it harder to make out the detail but he could clearly sense it. ’It came up in time’. He thought elated, the barrier was up in time before the Kaiju beam, but then he sensed a closing, he froze. ’No, it didn’t, the rest are just coming up now’ the barrier fully shut.

It was just at this very moment the barrier closed and yet the city survived the danger? How? How on earth was that possible? ’But if the barrier closed right now’ he gulped, there wasn’t even a single scratch on the city, then how? How was it protected? At the sudden cough sound he turned, the sound of coughs came again, someone... someone was alive.

He focused his senses more so that he could make out who, or how many, but the smoke was too thick and then he was able to sense who it belonged to.

"Ten!" He yelled but then his body was shocked in pain at his movement but he didn’t back down, he turned a blind eye to the pain. "Ten is that you?!"

"Hiro?" His voice was weak and a bit distant.

"Ten! It’s me are you alright?" he called.

"Hiro" he coughed once again.

Hiro tried to move but his body crumbled to the ground, he fell flat as his body shook in tremendous pain. He growled using his chin to crawl and move slowly against the ground, before using his hand even as they shook and gave out multiple times.

"Ten! Where are you, I’m coming!" he yelled.

"Hiro"

"Ten, where are you okay buddy", he cursed himself for not seeing in this smoke, his senses were still dulled by it.

"Hiro, I’m here"

"Ten!"

This time he could tell his voice was close which means he was getting closer to him.

"Hiro" Ten said, his body on the ground weak, his vision blurry and then he spotted Hiro eagerly crawling to him.

"Ten!", he forced his body to kneel and then pulled Ten’s body to sit up, Ten coughed painfully.

"You’re okay Ten"

"Hiro" Ten said, elated with tears in his eyes, they streamed down his cheeks endlessly. "I thought everyone was dead," he sniffled painfully. "I thought we didn’t make it"

"The truth is I don’t know if we did," Hiro said with stern eyes. "Look" he points at the city. Ten followed his hand.

"The city," Ten said with trembling eyes. "It’s in one piece! the barrier came up on time!"

"That’s the point Ten only that it didn’t"

"What? Are you certain of that? the City should be in ruins now!"

"I know... I thought so too", His blind eyes narrowed. ’Something doesn’t feel right...’

"Hiro!"

At the voice Hiro stilled, he whirled. "Yuki!" he yelled, he was certain... certain that was her voice.

"Yuki!" he called, he growled, the smokescreen was still getting in the way. "Yuki!"

"Hiro"

"There she is! Yuki!" Ten points and Hiro followed, Yuki held her arm as she sluggishly walked toward them, she had a head injury, she stumbled as her body gave out, at instinct, Hiro reacted although in the immense pain his body was in, he moved and caught her in his arms before she fell to the ground. He held her close.

"Is she okay?" Ten asked worriedly.

"Yuki! Are you alright?!" he asked worriedly. She leisurely opened her eyes coughing before she nodded, although she did that, Hiro knew that wasn’t the case, he could feel her weakened aura, and his features grew more worried. ’Yuki’. he paused when he felt more auras, not hers or Ten, it was...

"The others"

"What is it, Hiro?!" Ten demands knowing he was the only one capable of sensing things right now.

"I feel them," he said. "I feel the others!"

Ten stilled at his words as his eyes shocked, he turned his gaze to the view that now cleared as the strong wind rushed in, in itching anticipation and the smokescreen parted.

"Mirai, Yumi, Kaneki, Mary, Sumi, Shino, Homura, Mizuki, Daiki, Mosu, Raiden, Ren, Kaname, Haya, Himari, Ryu..." Hiro paused, his eyes shocking, tears trailing down his cheeks, his heart slamming a loud heartbeat in his chest... because that was it, that was all the aura he felt.
