Chapter 262: The Mourning Ceremony. part 1.

The Mourning Ceremony. It’s a story that repeats every 20 years somewhere in Lapan, a country that is lying on the surface of a large planet called Yerth.

Usually, this phenomenon takes place in high schools, forests, subway stations, colleges or anywhere where activities of people could be seen across the country and nobody knows what triggers it. Even it’s so unnoticeable that nobody notices it until everyone dies and one stays alive. It’s like a game of survival where only one survives and the others die.

And coincidentally, this game or quest has a deep connection with the dungeons from Helsia where gods and demigods take the challenge.

But none of them survives because suddenly turning into a mortal from god confuses them. They either die from accidents or get killed by a person while doing the quest. It takes more than a year to get used to a mortal body but the duration is too long.

So, the success rate was less than 2 which was written on the dungeon board. Still, Adonis took the quest after reading the description of the quest.

It was more of a hide-and-seek game where a group of friends will find an abandoned house and decide to play hide-and-seek inside. The rules were simple.

[Quest rules:

Play a rock paper game and choose the person who will look for the ones who are hiding.

Nobody is allowed to use any of their superhuman strength while playing the game.

Never make a sound because the finder will find the others quickly which will be evaluated as a foul.

Never steal anything from the house because it’s disrespectful.

Survive if one of the rules from above is broken.

The new rules of survival will be displayed if one of the rules is broken.

The game will have 3 stages. You must complete all the stages before the quest deadline.

Quest duration: 3 years.

Quest completing reward: 1 stage Nectar potion.

Quest failing penalty: -1 stage Qi. The player will lose 1 stage Qi from his Qi core. Repeat the quest until the player meets the requirements to end the quest. ]

Adonis was confident in his skills and experience. He lived among humans so it wasn’t a problem. He also lived like a normal person with Viktor so getting used to the mortal world wasn’t a hard task for him.

But the name of the country made him chuckle a little bit.

It was the same as Earth but since it was a different world, there were some exceptions such as names of the country, currency names, and even humans.

There wasn’t any mana or such thing called magic but there was something called super strength that makes a human surpass their normal physical abilities. From lifting a huge bus to leaping from one building to another, these were examples of those people who had these abilities that varied from person to person.

Adonis again looked at the set of rules and said, "It’s not that complicated compared to my master’s quest. He’s running from this world to that as a demon lord where I just have to survive a hide-and-seek game in an abandoned house. After watching lots of horror movies with my master, my instinct is telling me this is a haunted house. We have to survive in a haunted house where evil spirits AKA ghosts will haunt us. I have to survive all that drama. Hum.. It’s a piece of cake."

Adonis smiled and accepted the quest with a happy face. He entered through the door and finally saw a huge floating orb in a vast empty dark room.

He hovered near the glowing orb and touched its warm surface.

The player will get automatically connected to a host that lives on Yerth who will be a part of the game/quest as planned.

Adonis looked at the floating screen and saw he only had a minute before the quest. He was also frustrated that he went through all of the pain of dressing up when he won’t be taking part in the quest with his real body. His real body will be put to deep sleep in the dungeon where his consciousness will wake up in a mortal’s body somewhere on a different planet.

*Sigh...*

Adonis took out a cigarette and lit its tip on fire. Since he was going to leave his body for a year or two, he thought smoking one was a better idea to calm his frustrated mind.

"Ah... only 10 seconds.."

The moment he took a puff, his mind went blank along with all of his senses.

Somewhere in an unfamiliar room, Adonis opened his eyes and discovered himself under a warm blanket. His eyelids were heavy but quickly, his mind realized where he was and jolted from his slumber.

"Tsk... This mortal body sure knows its way to welcome me with pain."

Adonis looked around and started to examine his surroundings. A small bed near a small window, traffic bustling outside, some darned birds chirping near the window, a small table near the small bed, an instant ramen bowl piled up near the computer, books that could be seen as a table for his gaming setups and lastly, dirty pile of clothes on the chair.

The room he was sitting in was a disaster.

Adonis’ eyes twitched as he saw the dirty tissues on the floor, emitting a disgusting odour.

"I was wrong. This quest isn’t a piece of cake. I want to go back..."

Adonis opened the window and turned on the fan to let the disgusting trashy smell out of his room. He then looked at the city and mumbled, "I really am in the mortal world. The world looks just like Earth but I can already notice some differences. The sakura is not pink, it’s blue. The funny thing is this country is called Lapan, the year 2013, the era of superhuman, not magic and here I am with my new identity. 17 years old, 3rd-year high school student. A shut-in just like my master was back in his mortal life days. Now, I am going to live a mortal life, as a human for the 1st time in my life. Surprisingly, I can already feel the differences between both races."

Adonis looked back and saw the disaster in the room. He sighed and shook his head.

"Before the quest, I need to clean up this filth. It’s making my stomach sick."

Without saying a word, he started to put all the filthy bowls in plastic bags. After 1 hour of cleaning the filth, he changed his bedsheet and finally, after 3 hours of cleaning, he took a warm bath in the bathroom which was inside his room.

"Ah... I finally feel so good but this mortal body is really inconvenient. I am hungry, so hungry that I can feel my head spinning."

Adonis was exhausted. He could feel his whole body trembling just from the hunger that he felt after a long time. His demonic body was built to stay alive even after 3 months without food and water. But the host he was in was a mere human that could barely stay alive without food for a few weeks, a week without water.

With the help of his new set of memories, he remembered there was some food in his drawer so he went straight to the table and took out the snack he was looking for.

A pack of chips and some energy bars.

"This is not healthy at all but it’s good for quick hunger relief."

Without hesitating, he ate those snacks and sat on his bed. It was 4 in the morning.

He looked at the time and mumbled, ’This kid stays up all night and plays online games, lives like a shit-ass kid, is antisocial when he is at home, doesn’t take care of his health at all. But when he is at school, he is like a saint, a talented kid who never fails to score top place and gets treated like a school prince.

At home, he is the failure, the black sheep of a good family. Heheh.. he might be a human but from inside, he’s a demon. I like this kid already but sadly, I am that kid.’

Adonis lost in his deep thoughts again and said, "I don’t care about his life anymore. All I care about is the quest. I am almost in my 4th stage. A step behind being a god. I need to work hard."

At that moment, he heard a knock on the door.

"Futaba, you’re still awake?"

It was his elder sister, Yuki Adachi. A 2nd-year college student who came home after her semester final.
