Chapter 212: Romos Empire

Chapter 212: Romos Empire

The day dawned and Viktor finally woke up from his long sleep. He slept so well that he forgot he was going through a trail of the tower.

In the midst of his sleep, he started to speak of his servant and the assassins heard him.

"Adonis...why is the room so cold? Adonis??"

His eyes opened and he quickly jumped from his bed. ’Ah, I forgot that Adonis isn’t around here. It’s been only 4 days since I came here.’

He rubbed his eyes and mumbled, ’Only 4 days huh? I guess I’m already missing home.’ He looked outside through the window and saw the sun had already set. The assassins who were spying on him were still sticking to the ceiling but one of them was missing. So he assumed that he must be hungry or tired.

After having a big meal served by another slave, he sat on the bed and opened the book of world mystery. He bought it from a clothing store for only 1 gold because it was on display. And its language was different so nobody bought it. But there was no language that Viktor couldn’t read so he took advantage of the shop owner and robbed him. The book he bought would be so expensive if they knew the language.

’This language is similar to an ancient language called Magus. It’s like an older version of Magus and I’m surprised that this world has a book that has records of ancient monsters with details.’

He turned the page of the book and saw a picture of a Leviathan. The old map in that book also looked similar to the world he was staying in. He then read the description below the picture and thought,

’The map looked similar. The details are also matching it. Does that mean it exists on this planet?’

Suddenly, someone knocked on the door and said, "Your evening snack is here, sir Grimm. May I come inside?"

After Viktor told her to come, she opened the door and pushed a rolling tray inside the room. The tray was filled with sweets and tea.

"May I pour you a cup of tea, sir?"

"Yes. Four cubes of sugar."

Viktor again went back to his study. He turned the page and saw a picture of a mermaid. A green with blue fin mermaid with a crown-like horn attached to its head. They aren’t male or female and yet, they are able to produce babies on their own when they feel like their life is in danger. They are immortals and their blood, skin, tooth and nails have the same properties. If a mortal eats any of those four, they will turn immortal but there is a catch.

The immortal person will slowly turn into a spirit and forget who they are. Means, they will no longer remember anything about themselves and walk further away from the path of reincarnation.

Viktor was shocked to read that the person who wrote the book knew about the reincarnation circle. It’s supposed to be a secret that gods know and mortals aren’t allowed to know.

’Then I think this book was written by a god or a demigod or someone who remembers his life as a god in the sky realm.’

He again turned the page and saw a picture of an old man named Gata. An old spirit with endless wisdom. He’s the living proof of someone who ate a mermaid’s finger to gain immortality. He walked around the world for three thousand years to read every book. But soon, he realised that he was missing so many parts of his life as a human. Not only that, but he had also forgotten his name.

After a few hundred years of his journey, after he started to lose his memories, he finished reading every book in the world and decided to take shelter in a cave. He turned his body into a tree of golden cocoa.

The book says that if someone finds the tree and eats the cocoa, they will be granted endless wisdom depending on the person’s nature.

But it didn’t mention anything about why he turned himself into a tree and promised to grant wisdom to those who eat the fruit.

Nobody also knows where the cave is. It might be inside a cave under the sea, under or above a mountain. Under any ruin or in a volcanic tube.

He again turned the page and saw a picture of a young man with long black hair. His name wasn’t mentioned under the picture but the description of him says it all.

But Viktor then closed the book hurriedly and said, "That’s enough reading for today!!"

He put the book inside his bag and wore his new long jacket to go outside. Before going out, he took all the sweets from the table and left.

He was heading to the next town called Nippo.

After riding on his staff for 2 hours at full speed, he crossed the border of the kingdom and reached Nippo, the town next to the kingdom, famous for the magic school.

Nippo is actually a small city that has the biggest magic school in the Hemeri continent. Also, Nippo is infamous for its devious duke.

Viktor jumped from his staff and walked out of the gap between two buildings near a busy street. He was learning about Nippo on his way and decided to stay until the black guild calls for odd jobs.

Since it was a town of magic schools, most of the people on the street were young, strong, noble and slaves. The one thing that caught Viktor’s eye was the bookstore near a magic wand store.

’I want to eat first, but I smell goods from that store. I can’t afford to waste any time eating.’

He rushed inside the bookstore and saw a pretty elf lady with a smoking pipe. She was reading a newspaper with moving pictures so it reminded him of Harry.

"Welcome to the Green Shade bookstore, dear customer. What kind of book are you looking for today?"

"Mythical creatures, ancient magic, ancient technology and ruins. Are they available here?"

"You’re not from Nippo, aren’t you?"

"Yes. I’m new here."

"As expected. If you were from Nippo you’d ask for guides to enrol in the academy or a basic understanding of mana and spells. Since it’s the season for the academy exam, we are selling these books."

"I see... but do you have what I’m asking for?" Viktor asked and started to look around the store. At that moment, someone inside the store started to chatter about the recent activities of the imperial castle.

"Do you know? The king has summoned heroes from the other world!"

"Huh? Already? I heard the king will summon them next year. Has the demon king awakened from its slumber?"

"I don’t know anything about the demon king. I don’t even believe in such demon king in the first place."

Viktor somehow heard their conversation and decided to look into the matter. He took a seat near them and pretended to read a book.

"I heard they are coming to Syford Academy as students to get better education and experience to defeat the demon lord. And one of them is already engaged to the crown prince of Romos empire. I heard she is one hundred times better than the high priest. She has excellent healing ability that can grow one’s missing arm!"

"Are you sure you heard them right?"

"If you’re drowning under alcohol all day and night, how are you supposed to know all these!!"

At that moment, the elf lady grabbed both of their long ears and complained, "Did I hire you guys to talk loud inside my store? Huh? Get back to work!!!"

"Y..yes!!!"

She then approached Viktor and said, "I am sorry for the commission, young customer. Here are the books you asked for. Although their titles aren’t the same, the content of the books are matching your needs. I hope you gain great wisdom from these books. Oh, I forgot, these books are all written in ancient languages so good luck reading them."

"Thanks..."

Instead of reading, he took those books to her and said, "I want to buy them."

"Are you sure? Each of them is 100 gold."

Viktor looked at the notice behind her and saw a job recruitment notice.

Viktor immediately pointed his finger at that job recruitment notice and said, "How can I get the Elf lady approval Card?"

’I know I must’ve acted out of curiosity. But why do they need someone who knows the ancient Romos language? Are they looking for some treasury? Or some legends that are buried under this land? Even if they are planning to kill me after the job is done, I am going to take the job because it will definitely help me to level up.’

The lady smiled and said, ’That text was written in an illusion spell. If you can read that, it means you already passed the test. Here is an approval card. Good luck."

’Eh..?’
