Chapter 202: A real world?
The great tower is the most beautiful architecture in the sky realms. It’s made of pure gold, decorated with golden apple trees outside to attract attention.
It pierced throughout every sky realm so nobody really knows how many floors it had. It’s so tall and massive that new immortals might think it’s the home of the king god.
’My question is, why would he build such a thing in heaven? And the information I got is wrong-_-. It has a thousand floors. Not one hundred. And it doesn’t allow anyone to leave the tower before they are completing the 99th tower.’
Viktor looked at the floating screen projected by the tower in front of him. It had his information displayed on it and also showed that some of his skill was restricted by the tower.
"The god of dungeons actually made this tower for entertainment. This is no different than a game or fantasy story. A player will go inside a tower, clear floors and gain strength. But this status screen is really interesting. I don’t see any projector inside this room but the quality of this protection is first class."
Viktor tapped on the floating screen and said, "It’s not some damn projection. It’s solid. So solid that it’s making a glass noise when I’m tapping it. This level of advanced technology is making me feel thirsty. Should I become his student-_-?"
’I don’t have enough power to look through other gods’ records whose Qi stage is higher than mine. I have looked through some gods’ records who were assisting him when he built the tower but they don’t have enough information. He created them depending on his knowledge. It’s so advanced that it can interfere with other gods’ information, including mine.
Since my power is unique, I am sure my information has already reached his ears. And I am pretty sure he is watching me from very close even though I can’t see nor sense his presence.
Viktor again looked at his floating screen and read his information.
"This looks like the status bar of a game. But what’s with the age though? Not countable due to an interference of time magic? Somehow that makes sense because I’ve spent 90% of my lifetime in time-accelerating magic. The tower system can’t count that way. And why is my magic level only 1? Why am I a beginner?"
Then he realised something.
"I forgot...this is a game. No matter what kind of person I am, when I start to play a game, my avatar will be level 1. I need to hunt monsters and level up just like a game."
Viktor then entered the door to the first floor and became astonished to see the vast green landscape. He thought that would be some kind of room and a small task but he was wrong.
"The sky looks so real. But since I’m master at making dimension rooms, I know this is not some small room equipped with illusion magic devices. I can clearly feel the presence of life, flow or mana and an otherworldly vibe around me. But the question is, how am I supposed to find out what the quest is? The administrator didn’t say anything about the quest. He just escorted me to the gate and told me to level up."
Viktor looked at the magic staff he picked up and said, "This is also a beginner-level staff that kids use to practice basic tier magic spells. The tower wants me to fight someone with this twig?"
Suddenly, a floating screen appeared in front of him saying that he needed to head to the village and get a quest from the quest board after passing the adventuring test.
He was speechless when he read that.
"I get it now. Reading and memorizing all the strategies were a waste of time. I knew this was going to happen. The tower doesn’t allow cheats. So the quest changed right after I entered the 1st floor and the future changed in a blink because somehow it sensed that I had the knowledge of it. I guess I need to do it the hard way. I will use my gaming skills and clear the tower. I will leave it to you, my gut feelings and 40 years of gaming experience!!"
Viktor started to walk by following the muddy path to a village. It wasn’t so far away but the time it took felt like an hour to Viktor. But he wasn’t tired at all.
"Is this an effect of being a magician? Magicians have low physical strength but if he uses mana to walk and run, they can run more than mile after mile without breaking a sweat. Of course, it needs a tremendous amount of mana and sadly I don’t have any. It already cost half of my mana to reach the village and I only have 4 left."
Viktor entered the village and saw it was roaming with people. All of their jobs and levels were displayed above their head so Viktor could differ between a villager and an adventurer.
"They are all real-life NPCs. I can’t believe I’m seeing these in heaven. But are they really programmed or brainwashed Immortals? Or are they real? They don’t feel like they are actually NPCs because I can sense the flow of life in their body even though my senses of a demigod have been sealed by the tower. I wish I could use my curse-lifting magic on them to check but sadly, I’m currently using an avatar body. I can’t do anything and to enable my skills, I need to register at the guild as an adventurer."
Viktor walked inside a village guild called Lion and saw so many adventurers. They were all wearing armour, some of them looked like higher level magic users and also, there was a person who had ’Hero’ displayed above his head. He was surrounded by a tank, a mage, a healer and an archer. It was a hero party who came to a remote village to defeat an unknown monster who was eating mercenaries outside the village border.
"Adonis will be very mad if he hears that I was playing games instead of doing an actual job. Heheh..."
Viktor walked closer to the regeneration section and said to a young lady, "I came to register as an adventurer."
The NPC girl smiled at him and said, "Hello young man. Please read this forum and carefully select the empty tags. I will then evaluate your strength and announce whether you can become an adventurer or not. The registration fee is 1 silver coin."
’Do I have any money with me? Come to think of it, my outfit has also changed. I’m wearing a black robe and equipped with a small wooden staff. But I do have a small pouch. I guess this is where my money is.’
Viktor then carefully read the whole page and wrote down his name, his class and also his level. He then paid one silver coin and measured his mana on an orb.
Turns out, he was wind, fire and dark mage.
"A dark mage, huh? Cool."
The NPC lady said, "Congratulations on becoming an adventurer. This is your ID card. Please don’t lose it. This will also help you to enter other villages without paying any fee. But please take one quest per 15 days to keep the card valid. If you fail to finish a quest in 15 days and report it to the guild, you will be demoted one rank and you have to pay 2 silver coins to activate it. If you want to take any quest, please go to the quest board and pick any F class quest you want."
"Um, can I ask you a question?"
"Yes, please."
"How many days will it take me to get a ranking promotion?"
"I am glad you asked about it. You are such an intelligent young adventurer.
An F-class adventurer will have to complete ten F-class quests to be promoted to rank E.
E-class adventurers should complete fifteen E-class quests to reach rank D.
A D-class adventurer should complete twenty D-class quests to reach class C.
But C class rank evaluation is different. They need to complete only fifteen rank quests to reach Class B.
B class adventurer needs to complete ten quests to reach class A.
Here is the catch. You need to complete 100 A-class quests to reach S class. Of course, there isn’t any A class adventurer or any quests so B class is counted as a national hero."
"That was a big explanation so thanks for your help. I will be back soon with a quest."
’From the moment I stepped inside the village, I’ve been looking at everyone’s moments. They may look like NPCs but something doesn’t add up. They don’t look like a clone or any advanced hologram of the tower.
I’ve been relying on my skills for so long that even without using them, I can differentiate between real people and fake ones. When I close my eyes, I can feel the flow of life, I can somehow sense the record book deep within their souls. The tower might know how to put a barrier around a god’s divine Qi and power, but it’s not 100% effective.’
Viktor then again mumbled, ’I don’t know why, but my wild imagination is telling me that this is not some room inside a tower. I am standing in a real world which is under the protection of the god of dungeons. The tower is just a link that connects to different worlds. It takes the participants to a certain era where the challenger faces so many trials and levels up. This is a really complicated dungeon system and I guess the creator’s main objective is something else. I need to be careful because all my strategies have gone down to drain. Now I can only trust my gut and focus on levelling up.’
