Chapter 519: Chapter 519 Work Group Leader
Mancity, Ji Yang’s days were quite comfortable; he didn’t have much to do every day, and it was relatively safe here, plus he could take strolls in the areas where Chinese people congregated.
As Ji Yang was strolling, he received a phone call.
It was now quite convenient to communicate with officials in South Dian.
When he answered, it was the Organization Department calling to announce a decision by the Provincial Committee, which was to formally appoint him as the head of the Myanmar Affairs Processing Group.
Ji Yang was aware of the responsibilities of the head. Mainly, it involved investment and business attraction. Formerly, Tao Guangming had been in charge, but now he was responsible for it in its entirety.
Because of the distance, a copy of the Provincial Committee’s decision had been faxed to his station, and they had called to inform him about it.
So, he had become the head?
Although it was "just" being a head, Ji Yang knew that the position held significant power. Ji Yang was in charge of all the affairs of South Dian in the area, plus he had to cooperate with the senior management in some matters.
To Ji Yang’s understanding, he was now akin to a local emperor here; apart from major issues that required him to seek instructions from back home, minor matters were his responsibility.
Ji Yang never imagined that a task ordinarily requiring a vice-provincial level leader would be entrusted to him.
However, he had now understood that it was impossible for him to return to China anytime soon; he could only continue working here.
Back at the station and having assessed the personnel situation, Ji Yang had no choice but to deal with staff without backgrounds or connections. Even after several more people were transferred here, the total number was still less than forty.
Fortunately, under Ji Yang’s arrangements, everyone had been carrying out their work in an orderly fashion, and there was nothing much to say about that.
After receiving the faxed document, Ji Yang gathered everyone to make the announcement, and with that, the matter was considered settled.
Sitting in his office, Ji Yang started contemplating. Since he was going to work here for a while, it was time for some reassessment.
The place they were living in was actually just a rented office building, with only some soldiers dispatched by the government for protection outside.
This mode of protection wasn’t particularly safe.
After some thought, Ji Yang went to see the local government official in charge.
Over time, Ji Yang had deliberately fostered good relationships with local officials, and after some conversations, they agreed to let South Dian construct their own institutional building. They would allocate a piece of land for it, with South Dian’s personnel in charge of the actual construction.
The land was conveniently located next to the real estate development by Le Qin, and Ji Yang arranged for Le Qin’s team to take charge of the construction.
Of course, Ji Yang reported this matter to the South Dian Provincial Committee, which was supportive and allocated a substantial amount of funds for it.
In fact, when they heard that Ji Yang planned to build an office space here, the executives of the beneficiary companies all called, expressing their willingness to contribute financially to the project.
Ji Yang didn’t accept their help. On the surface, Ji Yang didn’t receive any direct benefits, but behind the scenes, he profited significantly. Firstly, Le Qin’s influence expanded through the management, and secondly, they contracted some projects and even took shares in some, garnering even more benefits.
The domestic companies understood the difficulties of expanding overseas, so when Le Qin expressed a willingness to invest and take a share, they all approved, as this meant more local assistance from Myanmar.
This approach was seen as mutually beneficial by the domestic companies, bringing great benefits to everyone.
Thus, Ji Yang wasn’t worried about his earnings and didn’t see the need to receive benefits from the various companies.
Now, the real estate Le Qin was developing principally served their leadership and wasn’t intended for sale, meaning there were many villas among the properties, including one being built for Ji Yang.
Of course, Ji Yang knew it would be too conspicuous to keep it for himself, so he had Le Qin build some smaller villas on the periphery, mainly for purchase by the staff members he had sent over.
It was understood among them that purchasing these villas was an investment, as selling them later would mean a profit, so many bought villas under the identities of their family members.
For a while, Ji Yang’s prestige soared here, and everyone held him in unparalleled admiration and respect.
